IDK what you’re talking about… Scouting is super easy. I just listen to SpursBills and OK Computer and it never lets me down.

Probably don’t listen to most things I say, as I’m at the stage where I literally don’t know the definition of what a ‘good’ player is anymore. I only know which players I enjoy watching.

Draft Aday Mara.
The team becomes so unstable when either Wemby or Kornet are out.
There’s no other center in this draft, besides maybe Krivas, who could go toe to toe physically with real centers like Valanciunas, Edey, even Sengun who would use his ass to push off any weak centers.

If you’re talking about the buyout market… I don’t think any noteworthy center was available.

No, I'm talking trades, but that's beside the thread. I agree, if Mara or Krivas are available, don't try to play 3D chess, just take the guy with the valuable archetype and productive track record. The time for wild swings is gone, now they need to hit singles.

This is warranting another look at Ngongba by me. I was not a fan of what I was seeing on film. But, we need a center bad so I need to check again. He’s got TD21’s seal of approval so maybe there is something there. It’s not great that he isn’t over 7’ but the good thing is he’s >250 lb, which might be more important since not being pushed around by the big centers in the league is key… or else we’ll be back at square one.

I recall people telling me it was foolish to be concerned about 3rd string C. Seems like more people have caught on. We don’t need the Ferrari of 3rd stringers… but at least something serviceable. Bassey would have been a major upgrade.

if you are worried about your center being pushed off by Sengun's ass, you might rather draft Tarris Reed.

How good Kornet will be in the playoffs should decide how Spurs approach their center situation.

If Kornet struggles in the playoffs, drafting a center with the 19th/20th pick is an option. This drafted player, if he turns out well, will take Kornet's backup spot and Kornet will be waived/traded.

If Kornet is solid in the playoffs, Spurs shouldn't spend a good first round pick on a third string player. Spurs truly need to get a better third string C that what they have this year but this upgrade will be done with a second round pick or a cheap free agent signing.

Nah a center is needed from this draft no matter what.There is no good bigmen free agents this summer.I aint

Sengun ain't that strong. But he makes up for it by swinging his elbows into opponents' torsos and faces. It's way more blatant than Pedo Malone's elbowing.

After some sleep, and my mind less reactionary, you are right about this one. Reed is a very solid choice for what we desperately need at third C. He doesn’t need to have the upside of Mara, but he does need to hold his own. Reed Jr. is like a tree trunk with his strength.

The more I think about our 20th pick, the more I realize that it may be a good idea not to get anyone who thinks their upside is really high - to lower the risk of letting go other players just to accommodate their financial desires.

Whichever forward we get has to beat out Keldon, Vassell, Champ (assuming CB continues trending up, he’s locked in for a position and not included here) in the rotation, right? So I think they have to be just good enough to beat those guys but not be too good that they believe they deserve a $20 million a year contract. IMO, few fit this bill. If I were to guess, the guys who would come in and just be happy they’re winning are: Haugh, Graves, JJ, Ejiofor.

I think this team was built to battle OKC, and this roster has done just that.

Teams with multiple, bulky bigs cause us problems. Knicks/Nuggetts/T-Wolves come to mind and constitute a good portion of our losses. There is no doubt that we need more size and physicality. Of NBA players I've seen close up, Valanciunas looks to have the widest shoulders I've ever seen on a human except for maybe Shaq. He is absolutely huge.

The draft looks like the best way to replace 2 of Biyombo, Kornet or KO and @okcomputer's proposed Carr/Reed draft and picking up Mo Wagner is a great plan. I like Reed a lot and he'd be a steal at 34 or 35 in my mind. I guess we will see what a week off does for Kornet. When I saw him in Austin, he didn't look right physically. Looked like back issues were stifling his mobility and he really waddled up and down the court.

Bassey is a head-scratcher. Has the tools, is from SA. I guess the Spurs saw something there they didn't like. Similar to Barlow. Or it's just situational and business-based.

There are going to be a few PFs on the board at 20 and most likely the Spurs will pick one. Which one is the best fit? I like Ejiofor.
Like his athleticism and high energy, really quick, good finisher and fights for rebounds and has a nice jump hook shot near the basket, still needs improvement with 3 point % but has other areas that will go nice with the Spurs quick backcourt as he can run the floor with those guys.

Also like Reed as a physical low post player which Spurs need more of. Doubt the spurs can come away with both Reed and Ejiofor.

Unless someone drops unexpectedly to us I'd lean more towards trading out of our first and using our 2nd's on Reed or Ejiofor if he's there and a shooter like Karaban, De Larrea, or Sandfort. Kick the first down the road for a couple assets. It's not sexy, but it may be the best plan.
