Wemby even says it here. Him rolling to the basket with corner shooters is a key part of the strategy.

Drafting a big with no shooting ability or real upside to play next to him doesn’t support that.

I’d rather use first round picks on players with starter upside, even if it’s a long shot. With Wemby, I don’t really see a big fitting that unless they can space. Same idea for point guards too, at least until Fox is near the end.

Second round picks on non-shooting bigs sounds good to me though. Seems there will be plenty to pick from.

This is where I sit which is why Yaxel was so appealing, just wish we knew whether he had his head on straight or whatever. But it's likely he's way out of our range now anyway. I'd love to take a 2nd round flyer on just... a big dude who can fill up space and maybe move his feet in addition to being a decent rebounder/rim protector. Nailing down a 3rd string big like that would be great. Like someone akin to Charles Bassey without the injuries.

As far as a 'big' to take in the first round, I'm looking at Yaxel's teammate Morez Johnson as someone worth targeting that may fall down to our pick. He can probably play a little small ball C, he sets good screens and the ft%/3p% looks decent. Would definitely provide a different look to some lineups we could trot out. But I really hope whoever we pick can actually spread the floor a little bit, even low-volume, while playing 4. And that limits options.

That sounds like a reasonable take to me. When it comes to PG's, it really isn't about replacing Fox, it's about replacing Harper whenever Harper is ready to replace Fox. In my eyes, whenever we go that route it's gotta be someone who brings shooting for the second unit and can defend. We may be a year away from looking for that archetype though. For our 1st I'd personally lean toward the eventual Devin replacement, or the 3/4 guy who's 3D.

the Mavs are going to get lucky two years in a row. first, they beat the odds and land Cooper and now they will be benefitting from a lottery that will be replete with point guards who could be impact players.

Cam Carr is the guy imo

i do like Joshua Jefferson and Aday Mara as well, with Cenac a tier below those, but Carr is the one i'm by far the most interested in
 
I've pivoted away from Ament (high bust potential and likely gone) and Lendeborg (perfect fit but likely lottery pick). Spurs typically pick freshmen who they perceive were underutilized in college and have untapped potential, IMO the players that best suit this description are Chris Cenac, Braylon Mullins (late riser), Quaintance (freshman aged) and Koa Peat.

I'm fine with either of them other than Koa Peat (we don't need any more non-shooters) and I'd add Quaintance for injury concerns but I'd trust theri evaluation if they took him since I'm neither qualified nor informed to second guess a competent medical department. I'd add Krivas and Carr as personal favorites but I don't think they're necessarily the Spurs cup of tea. Also I would include Jefferson and Swain if they trust their shooting (I don't but their skill set is mad impressive and Spurs sure could use a competent shooting version of them).

Summarizing:
likely Spurs targets: Cenac, Mullins, Quaintance, Peat
others I'd consider: Carr, Krivas, Jefferson, Swain
 
Yea I could see Carr jumping into the lottery as well, especially with some of the other guys who have been projected to go in the lottery all season struggling as of late. Carr's likely going to kill the combine workouts though with his elite athleticism. Elite 3PT shooter. Elite finisher at the rim. Elite wingspan. Good/disruptive defender. Good enough size. Really safe prospect imo.

Yeah, but the Hawks and the Mavs will probably get lucky even if they don't move up, because they should be able to get the type of guard they both need.

I think the Mavs and Warriors will conveniently move into the top 4 though. One, some of the most egregious tankers have a history of moving down in this format. Two, the Mavs don't control their own 1st again until '31 (own Lakers '29 though) and between Flagg and the Doncic trade backlash, let's just say they're probably a priority for the league. It's a similar story with the Warriors, a cash cow franchise and player that's old and needs to both retool immediately and bridge to another era.

In Spite of his tools, his dRtg and DWS are bad. I would not at all take it for granted that he’ll be a good defender. Lonnie had all the tools, and was fucking awful on D.

His ceiling maybe bench bucket getter. If he is truly bad defensively, that will limit any climb in the draft.

dRtg is a team stat, and win shares are not going to be high on a team that didnt win a lot... the guy is not only toolsy but plays with effort on that end
 
I want Peja’s kid in Rd 2 just because I always liked Peja
