What's with all the calf injuries?

He played just 6 seconds in one game last season. Started to keep the streak going and fouled to get subbed. Ankle injury, iirc.
He was NOT hurt. They wanted to rest the starters for the playoffs. He would have played but the team wanted him to rest along with everyone else.

You're right.
And it happened 4 times total on the last night of the season, not just once.

He would have played. He hasn’t missed a game since like middle school, a true iron man. He deserves the benefit of the doubt more than anyone else in the league so there should be no issue.

Quote from Maestro Mitch in Feb. 18 article on Steph's injury and Victor's recovery puts an interesting spin on how they're working with a novel situation and unicorn player:

“I definitely think it is at the forefront of a conversation we’ve had since the moment we selected him,” Johnson said. “What’s hard is a lot of times in medical, or even performance (and) sports science, you use past information to make prognostications or predictions about the future. There’s not a lot of sample size and reference points that are similar to Victor, so it’s kind of just an ongoing living, breathing conversation every single day.”
Exactly. Some doctor was on here talking about how a handful of studies show no correlation between calf strains and Achilles injuries. Those studies are essentially useless for making any conclusions about how to treat nba athletes.

He was NOT hurt. See my other post. Just a team decision
DNPs by coach decision shouldn’t count against the streak. On the other side of it, other players lose their streak when they sit for strategic rest periods.

I don't think a week has passed by in this season without a regular starter on a team sustaining a calf strain and getting the obligatory "out minimum two weeks"
Looks like this gonna be the case in the playoffs too. Teams are so spooked by the Haliburton injury (and Lillard and Tatum before him)

Was a non-contact injury for Giannis too
Wemby is gonna have to put his foot down in the medical staff office if he wants to play in that Cup game..They are gonna give him the full month and what's just happened with Giannis will only have them more spooked.

That's not how medical practice works. You don't diagnose or prognose a patient based on someone else's body.

the main issue with all these injuries is that the player's association wanted shorter training camps and no two practices per day. They probably thought they can play their way into shape and the lack of preparation results into a lot more injuries.

The all nba 3rd team will be one of the weakest of all time. With half the best players in the league not playing 65+ games

I believe this could be playing a part in this. It's something Kenyon talks about. He doesn't think they're lifting weights enough, not working on strength training during the season enough, using the bands more and less weight training etc.

maybe there is an enhancement drug that a lot of player are taking and one of the side effects is calf injuries

I mean, I don't discount anything. Maybe they could be taking some, even if it's legal that could be causing issues. Could be a supplement, drug etc.

Garnett said the same thing. They are not doing calf raises, running up sand dunes (Steph did that this summer with the guard whisperer), etc.

And when they work out, they work out for 30 minutes with one person throwing them the ball.

I'd forgotten about the sand dunes for training. I definitely saw that Steph was doing it (great if TGW had him doing it). I remember years ago players used to do that in the offseason, so yeah, if they're not doing it anymore, it could be another factor.
Calf raises is also a pretty good one too.

fyi, to date, with all the hysteria of calf strains leading to achilles tears, Haliburton last year and Durant in 2019 are the only two cases of people tearing their achilles following a return from calf injury

Where did you get this info from? What about Dame, though? Didn't he have a calf issue before he tore his Achilles? I don't know if he was listed with a calf strain, but I seem to remember he was having calf problems.

lillard had DVT/blood clot in his calf, not a strain

I guess I am remembering wrong as I didn't follow it closely. I thought he had a strain earlier before the DVT? Fair enough if it wasn't a strain at some point before like I thought it was. It seems his was a more of unique situation.

Calves leading to Achilles or not,

Is the past couple years and this year a huge increase in Calf Strains Leading To at Least a Week Out?
