24 ppg isn’t “doing the job on offense”?

Not really often as a Big, he started the season that way but if he's back on the perimeter most of the time again I'm assuming he'll have a few games where he spends time inside but every important ones and POs teams won't let him exist inside. An inside/out partner could be deadly.

Ideally more a forward a la Lauri or Naz Reid who can shoot and work in the paint or a mobile 5.

Kornet did a great job, but he doesn't seem reliable athletically, especially if we add too much PT on his 15' he averaged with Boston.

We saw his floor game vs the Suns, tbh. Wemby is still pretty much suceptible to being erased from the game offensively. The coaching staff needs to make life easier for him and have him get the ball closer to the basket. More post ups and pick and rolls with Wemby as the roller, and less having him as the ball handler in the perimeter.

It is embarrassing that opposing coaches think it's ok to have Wemby being guarded by their PGs. Fucking Reed Sheppard was guarding Wemby at one point and the Spurs, as a team, couldn't do anything to take advantage of that situation. That can't happen if you want to contend for real and Wemby wants to be top 5 in the league.

100% agree, even Fears who's smaller than the 6'3 announced and only 190lbs moved Wemby around ffs It was embarrassing to watch so I can imagine Vic's mind.

I hope Mitch treats those Ws as Ls and assume every team in the league will use strategies that worked on Wemby. That's always happening.

On the optimistic side tho, Fox will naturally start impacting positively and will probably benefit the most from it and then Wemby later, once Fox killed a few teams by being open so often, they might loosen the grip on Vic.

Not being able to exploit a clear mismatch isn't a "dumb thing" in basketball terms. It is a flaw that needs fixing if you want to improve and become a real contender.

we should consider the last 3 games of offense as completely unacceptable. He can’t hit jumpers, he turns it over. He forgot all of his footwork from 2 weeks ago, he isn’t finishing at the rim somehow…even with his D, no one should consider this even an all NBA player. Not to mention all the other things.

Lebron only averaged 20ppg in his rookie season and improved his scoring as years goes by. He showed improvement in his scoring and other stats. While wemby so far isnt.


And not only lebron. Even other superstars like luka showed improvement as they get closer to their prime. Normally a player make a huge leap in his 3rd season.

Lebron showed up to play and gave you a high degree of consistency with effort and steady improvement. I can’t really figure out why we have to wait and see each game which version we’re getting - as far as compete level goes.

Just be patient. He'll be DPOY, all NBA every year. He's unselfish. He wants to be a Spur his entire career.
It takes time to fill out a 7'5 frame.
We don't have the ideal roster around him yet.

Sure teams put a short strong guy on him and double or triple team him when he gets the ball, but he's doing the right thing, passing it out and finding the open man.
Thats whats going to happen when he gets it in the post.

I'd like to see him setting better screens and being patient with them instead of rushing out.
I also think he is best when he is going downhill from the perimeter.

I think he and the team will figure it out In time.

Castle is more suited as a 2 guard and the team misses a bunch of passes to him when he's rolling to the rim. That's been frustrating since the point-Sochan days.

Whatever the team is doing is working so far and we haven’t been healthy yet.

to be fair, for the past 4 games, he is averaging 17 points on 39% shooting (17% for 3). If he played like the first 5 games, I don't think that people would complain. Let's hope that he figures out how to handle the double team quickly and his 3-point shooting goes back at least to what it was last year

I think a lot of people aren't remembering, this isn't really Victor's third season. He's only played one and a half seasons due to only playing half a season last season. He hasn't had much on court experience yet. His first season, the team was a mess. You can basically throw that season away. Last season was also a bit tough as Pop went out and Mitch was thrown out there as the head coach. I think this season is more like his second season or a continuation from his second season.

The cool thing is that the Spurs have started doing this to other teams. After Sengün offensive fouled his way to two baskets on Wemby, they stuck Castle on him. He’s a fucking unit for a guard, and slowed Sengün enough that he didn’t want to put up a shot with Victor looming, and unencumbered. He also didn’t want to pass into the lane with Victor near by..

Lastest ridiculous Wemby stat: he currently leads the NBA in DRB% at 37.6. A really, really good defensive rebounder falls between 25 and 30.

That's exactly what I want to see from him. Dominate the boards and shut the other team down on defense. He doesn't have to be putting up 30+ on offense to be great. He can just work on that as he goes. No need to be in a rush to be great on offense.

His level of polish is good. But he needs to roll around in the mud at least 10% more.

The Bulls made the mistake of playing Wemby straight up, as if they simply didn't see what other teams have done recently against him.
Wemby also took his game outside. Once he realized his shot was falling he took advantage.

Great to see him elevate his game in the 4th, on the road, in November, in a 4th game in 6 nights. Maturity is showing and his superstardom was on full display.

But I still cringe when he handles the ball at the 3pt line and then begins to drive to the basket. A lot of offensive fouls, turnovers and awkward shots result from that.

He shows that he has better handles this year but it still makes me nervous when he does it. I’m not sure what to think of it when he does it because I know he’s been successful at times as well. I guess I just hope he’s able to stay in more control if he continues to drive to the basket.
