Player The unfortunately low-ceilinged Shaolin monastery of Victor Wembanyama

One of the most dominant halves I’ve seen in a long time…just completely and utterly dismantled Portland on both sides of the ball. +28 in a game where we won by 21 is ridiculous.

If Wemby is playing 35+ mpg like this and the other guys even remotely show up, this team has what it takes to go all the way.

he was awful in the first half....... but ridiculously good in the second one. when he's in that zone defensively, which happens more than not, it's really impressive. the other team just can't score... and offensively, he can get 20 points without even trying....

Vic dodged a question about at what point he was told he was cleared to play. Said “I wont answer that question”

Seems like big dog is pissed off tbh

It sounds like he only had symptoms at the time of the fall. He somewhat indicated that after today’s game.

So at worst a mild concussion. Since he was groggy and had loss of balance at the time of the fall I’m fairly certain there was no way around them putting him into concussion protocol. He probably didn’t even have a full blown concussion.

But doctors like to see multiple days of no symptoms before clearing someone.

Having gone through this a bunch of times coaching youth football I’ve never seen a doctor clear someone inside 4-5 days.

He probably could have played game 3 but that was just too soon for them to clear him.

I imagine that’s where his frustration stems from.

Yeah, Wemby sounds pissed like hell for not being cleared to play in Game 3. League wasn't taking any chances with their crown jewel, that's what was all about.

Wemby is uber-competitive and it sounds like he felt fine going into game 3, so it’s not entirely surprising that he was annoyed/upset about the league holding him out. Doesn’t mean it wasn’t the right call or that anyone necessarily messed up - just an unfortunate tough situation.

The only thing I could potentially see causing additional frustration would be if the Spurs’ doctors were telling him he’s cleared and completely fine to play and then the league shut it down.

I wonder if the Spurs doctors/staff got to play good guy and let the league play bad guy. ie telling Wemby "we think you're g2g but arghh, the league just won't clear you yet" but actually being relieved to get him an extra couple days off.

Thats what it sounds like when he was praising the Spurs docs. Again, not saying he’s 100% right but I trust his words (and presumably the spurs docs more) than others in terms of just the frustration and disappointment.

My guess is the NBA was not sure what to do and was wavering on what needed to happen to return. The whole concussion protocol seems a bit arbitrary, so I'm sure no one wants that liability of clearing too soon.

Fwiw: seems like the frustration came from lack of transparency from the NBA. Sounds like they wouldn’t clear him but didn’t give any reasoning or explanation why.

Here’s the translation on the French tweet:

“I asked him after the game what the reason had been for not allowing him to play on Friday, and he replied that they had given him "none."

His frustration seems to stem from that—from the lack of communication and explanations from the NBA during the process—rather than from not having played.”

Move on vic.

I stand with NBA here. May be if its against DEN or OKC its a different story.

No way I am taking that 5% risk going against a sub par team…

It might be that there wasn’t any transparency given and/or explained to him.

I am standing with our franchise player tbqh. He’s smart enough, I doubt his gripe is solely on him not playing game 3 but how it was executed.
