Player The unfortunately low-ceilinged Shaolin monastery of Victor Wembanyama

Donut = Doncic? Hes better offensive player, but the guy don't play defense at all, same as Jokic. Wemby is by far the most complete player tbh
8.5 ppg more are a lot, and he's 19th in rebounding and 6th in steals so the no defence player cliche' should be dropped tbh, especially since he has shown to be a great defender whenever he goes to play fiba

Rebounds and steals don't make him decent on defense. If you actually watch him, he's a fucking turnstile and he routinely blows defensive assignments because he's too worried about whining to the refs rather than getting back on defense. He's been better to end the season but that doesn't erase his entire body of work

Come on, you know good and well that rebounding and being 6th in steals doesn't make you a good defender. Even the league leader in steals sometimes isn't a great defender (could mean that player gambles more).
A lot of the time the guys I think are the best defenders aren't always the steals or blocks leaders.

In Doncic's case, I can say from what I've seen, he's not a good defender.

He score more, and is the better passer, but everytime im watching him, he seems to be a lazy player, specially on defence. I still think Wemby is the more complete player by far

I need to try and be more like you. You seem to be able to let things go quickly these days and have a good perspective on things.

Well, I think I'm in the similar boat, but you started following the team much earlier, and you are a legit/true fan that stuck through the rebuild (I still checked in on the Spurs during that time, but only watched the occasional game as I was trying to focus on other things in my life during those rebuild years - health stuff mostly. I tried to watch the DeMar seasons, but I really wasn't a fan). I'm not from the SA or the US, but the Spurs are the only team I've ever followed up to now since I was a kid. There's other teams in other sports I've been a fan of when I was older, but I never stuck with a lot of those teams. I would have stuck with the Seahawks in the NFL, but that 2014 Superbowl, yeah, I stopped watching NFL the following season and was just a very casual fan from that point on watching some playoff games. You're right, it sticks with you if you get into it when you're a kid (that goes for playing sport too). I've tried not to follow NBA as closely (and I didn't after Kawhi left), but even before the Spurs got Victor, I started following the team again.

Yeah I'm not from San Antonio or even Texas and I don't even live in the states anymore, so we are kinda in the same boat there. I think the Aldridge/Demar years were some of the worst. Not because we were terrible but because we were sorta stuck. I may have been following but it was hard to get excited about that team -- I did like watching Demar's mid-range game and genuinely liked the dude, but never felt confident that would take us anywhere interesting.

The rebuild was actually more fun... Yeah, maybe KJ and Devin were asked to do way too much and Branham and Wesley weren't great players, but they had their moments. I still kinda miss Blake. Even Sochan looked like he was gonna be a good fit at times.

And I sure was paying attention to those draft options each year... the unbridled joy I felt when we won the lotto for Wemby was actually a peak Spurs fan moment for me, and the dude hadn't done a single goddamn thing yet. I was at a party at a friend's house in the states, who didn't have any cable TV and my VPN wasn't working on my phone, so I had to find a Spurs forum and keep refreshing comments. It was outdoors and I was glued to my phone while others -- many of whom were strangers -- were socializing. When we won, I screamed "WE FUCKING GOT HIM!!!!!" and everyone in attendance looked at me like i was a maniac. Core memory.

his motor is shit in the regular season, he gets bored a lot and gives up on plays more than any player maybe in nba history, that's why people think he's a bad defender.. guess what, most of the time when he gives up on the play, he's actually defending correctly as he avoids giving and ones. But he's a surprisingly good iso defender, he's just bad (awful really) at running around screens, once you notice it you can't unsee it. Reminder, we are talking about a pure shooting forward playing point, obviously he is not going to keep up the speed of other guards.

But complete? Wemby is surely the most complete player.. donut just happens to be more skilled.

Alright, I've seen it all.
The same guy who thinks Castle is a bad defender is talking up Doncic's defense.

He's doing the same thing Westbrook did back in the day, getting free rebounds because bigs don't contest him so he can push the transition or make an early pass.
that's because you strawman everything in your head.. there's time for everyone, don't worry

Posting just to try to make this thread visible for me.

Edit: As soon as I go out and come back, this thread is gone for me, even though I just posted in it. This is why I created an injury post yesterday and why I was so mad at Scott when he deleted it.
I didn't delete it, tbqh. There are other mods besides just me :st-lol:

Dude, I'm gonna blame you for everything. 😂

I unloaded on somebody because I've been trying to find updates on Victor's condition for days and there as nothing here visible to me. That is why I started the now-deleted thread. And like I said, I have no idea why it doesn't show up. I have a direct shortcut to this one now so I'm good. We can try to figure out how to fix it later.

It's probably because you put me on your ignore list months ago, and I started the thread.

saw that Wemby was shooting around this morning and he looked good but I would still be shocked if he played before game 4 on Sunday.

i think he's more skilled offensively, but his bad habits and laziness it seems will never go away, that why even with that skill and talent, he has never been the best player in the league

Boom, this is the answer. @O_V, you have drpill on ignore and he started that thread... you don't see threads started by people you have on ignore.

The fact he hasn't been ruled out yet means that if he is ready to go he's going to play. Otherwise they would have just ruled him out or doubtful. I think he plays tbh. That or Mitch is trying to fuck with Portland so they don't know what they're dealing with til the last minute

I think it means that he's passed every protocol thus far, but there is one more test to pass and if he does he'll play. If he had failed any step along the way, they would have been able to rule him out by now. If there were no more tests to pass, they would have ruled him available by now.

Edit: fixed a typo

pretty sure all it means is that he has not had a "concussion protocol" setback and if that continues, he plays. I don't think there's much discretion for the Spurs staff or Wemby himself, it's just down to what the results are of the "protocol".
