Player The unfortunately low-ceilinged Shaolin monastery of Victor Wembanyama

Great news. TBH I feel like this team has cried wolf so much on Wemby's health (warranted or not) I can never figure out if these things were truly close calls or just overreactions and etc. But I'll take it!
His unique anatomy warrants it, tbh. Rib contusions are no joke; they can linger for weeks. I feel like we have been lucky to dodge three awful-looking injuries for Wemby (knee-hyperextention vs Knick, ankle twist vs Clippers and this one..The most encouraging part about Wemby's health profile is that nothing is structural or chronic about his injuries just freak and random in-game occurrences with minimal layoff time. He would still have to be load-managed, but he is not "made of glass"..

Wemby's height makes rib and abdominal contact more likely. His flexibility, training and staff must be otherworldly because I've never seen someone suffer the ankle twists that he just pops back up from as if nothing happened. I do think that this injury will prompt the Dylan Brooks/Lou Dorts of the league to target his ribs. Hope it's not an issue in the playoffs. Also, hoping that he gets his 65 games in much earlier in the year over the subsequent seasons and has a more regulated on/off pattern.

Also, he is the least complaining big man in the league. He's getting mauled constantly. He and Castle are fouled virtually every possession. Winning should help alter that whistle discrepancy.

All anybody has to do in the playoffs is run into Wemby like Paul George did and we’re fucked.
Playoff Pee's move was like an NFL db taking a cheapshot at an engaged defenseless WR.
Unfortunately the NBA has plenty of amoral cowards who will glady defliver a kunty cheap shot.

If we're worried Wemby can't survive hits like that long term then we should just trade him away tbh. It's playoff basketball :st-lol:

you may not think so but data are showing you are wrong. Nowadays players are suffering higher injury rates than in the past. In the 80s and 90s it was commun for players to go through 82 games it is not the case anymore. So far there are a handfull of players only who played all games, last season only 11 players completed 82 games.

With actual pace of the game, intensity, international ball, trainings etc... playing 82 games in 6 months is simply insane. The argument of in the past they were doing it is not flying anymore. We had numerous POs match ups boring as fuck due to star players injured, this year won't be different.

Putting a minimum random number of games to make players eligible for higher contract is not going to solve the problem it is just creating another one.
The pace of the games are higher than the past but in my opinion the games are far less physical. Shit defense is hardly non-existent now a days. Its not like its a constant back and forth sprinting track meet. So for that point I think its a wash. Injuries are up and I obviously don't know why. We've seen legs/ankles snapping in two and achilles tears more often. But again I don't think it has to do with the amount of games. I find it weird though that at a time when sports medicine/science is supposed to be at its best we have these things occurring. I had this conversation with a friend a year or so again about this and wonder if its all the shit the players wear now during the game. Half these players look like mummies with all the wraps they wear. I wonder if its doing more harm than good for those players who are wearing them for preventative measures. I don't know its just a thought and observation I made. I guess the quickest fix could be extending the season a month and spreading the games out more. No more back to backs.

If he's ready.. But he better protect himself..
Protecting himself is going to be paramount.
The kunts are going to come after him, an i don't mean good hard playoff basketball.
I mean cheap shots.

This is a league that not only glorifies but enables and encourages Draymond Greens career cheap shots.

It's going to cost Wemby opportunities on some plays, but better he avoids.
Klingon Dort, etc etc.

I just want to get this 65 game min over with and get Wemby and everyone else to their week off before the playoffs..

I think Victor does some seriously cool training (it's not just regular yoga). Can't remember where the article is and/or if I'm getting all the details right (it's in this thread somewhere), but when Victor did that kick to kick the ball in the net earlier this season, it reminded me of this insane Algerian/French dunker back in the day (early 2000s) called Kadour Ziani. Kadour used to kick the ball from between the rim and the backboard (where the ball gets stuck - I think Kadour holds the record for highest kick, but he said he thinks Victor can break his record if he tries to at some point) and he was under 6 foot (can't remember his exact height, think it was something like 5'10"). He had an insane vertical (somewhere over 55 inches I think - I remember even reading 60" vertical). Anyway, apparently Victor's trainer actually trained and learned from Kadour before training Victor, and apparently a lot of Victor's training methods for his body comes from what Victor's trainer learned from Kadour. Once I read that, I'm really confident in what Victor is doing training wise. Kadour is around 50 years old now I think and from what I saw, he can still dunk it (IMO pretty impressive for someone under 6')

The answer is in this video earlier in this thread. The way the game is played in the last 10 years or so is fundamentally different than in previous decades. Players, especially bigs, are performing a lot more hard plants and are moving around more at full speed. That means more chances for injury as well as a higher cumulative chance of one as the wear and tear on the lower body accumulates.

In the 80s 90s you had more brawls sure and you had more contacts but those contacts were between players fighting near the rim being static or at a low speed. This physicality did not mean injuries just some bruises here and there and mostly for the egos. Today you have more transition play less standing around. Contrary to what you are saying about back and forth sprinting, it is indeed a constant back and forth compared to previous eras. Players are running much more km per game than before that's also a fact especially for the big who were operating mostly near the rim now they play on the perimeter, drive, shoot from 3s.

I agree tho on your conclusion extend the season, eradicate back to backs... that would be a solid start

As I mentioned before at the end of the day I'm all for player safety first and foremost. If less games, time off for rest is going to be the solution I think salaries/ticket prices should be adjusted as well. Players missing games should also be announce in a timely fashion for fans too if applicable. I don't think its fare to the fans to have to pay outrageous prices just to find out the day before or hours before a game a certain player is not playing.

Oh God! Wemby is out for the season!

No! No! It's just a minor day-to-day.

if same number of games with 1 or 2 months more to the season it is good for the fans and the players.

Also I understand the fans paying tickets but at the same time the average attendance to NBA games is not decreasing on the contrary even under those circunstances as the revenue of the league. NBA is afraid to change anything because it is "working" they just create stupid rules like the 65 games that is bandaid of an open wound, NBA does not care about players health, association just cares about money and does not want to piss off media making changes like extending the season. The injury trend is not going to improve magically, at the end the association does not see it as a problem untill it will become one. Same story for other sports like soccer where FIFA probably the most corrupt and greedy organization in the world continue to add event on a calendar already overloaded... biggest team has the depth to deal with it the others just stuggle, the average product quality decreases but as long as fans continue to spend and players don't react they will pull the cord untill it breaks.

Mod Edit: Embedding video :) just gotta copy and paste the youtube URL and it does the magic for ya
This is one of those youtubes whereupon you R click and it does not give any options to copy or cut.
Now what? Is there a plan b?

Agree with you 100% and that goes for any other work place. At the end of the day we all know its about money. As far as attendance goes a lot of times you have to buy tickets weeks, maybe a month in advance to a game. A player could get hurt between the time you bought the ticket and the game youre going to attend so you either still go to the game or try to sell the ticket I guess. No one has a crystal ball for injuries so in those situations its just bad luck. Like I said Im 50/50 on the 65 rule. I can see what its trying to achieve but maybe they can tweak it a bit.
