Player The unfortunately low-ceilinged Shaolin monastery of Victor Wembanyama

Wemby will be the best player in the league, no reason for him to take a discount.
Castle and Harper should be the ones taking a discount if they want to play with the best player in the league.

If we get a championship or two before Wemby's first extension ends, then we can talk about him taking a discount to keep the winning roster together.

I like how in your scenario this is an either or. Duncan made the max and won 3 championships. He only won one making less than the max (can’t count rookie deal Duncan). Nobody shit talks Duncan.
If Wemby is an All time great he will win a championship by making the max amount of money.
That was also at a time without the eprons. Eprons make it harder to build teams with many high-salary players. If Castle and Harper continue to develop to a point where they might get close to the max, we won't be able to keep the three of them and have a solid team around, that's the reality.

Obviously Wemby will do what he wants, I'm just telling you what I'd do.

The franchise players are usually the ones that set the tone by taking a discount, tbh. It makes sense because it is their legacies that get the biggest boost from the team doing well.

Co-stars are more likely to follow suit if the franchise players does it, but they are less likely to take discounts if the #1 guy gets all the money and most of the credit, tbh.

The rookie max extension is called the “fun max” for a reason. You pay him it, no negotiation needs to be had. Don’t get cute and overthink it or risk offending your franchise player with some pie in the sky idea.

Castle and Harper extensions are more likely to be the tough ones (unless they progress to the point of being no brainer max extensions).

I think Amen's extension is going to tell us a lot this offseason. Have seen discussion from Rox fans that they don't think it should be bigger than Sengun's (which averages $37MM over the duration, maxing out at $39MM and has it's highest % hit this year at 21.95%).

Amen is a better defender than Castle, but Steph is trending to be a more effective offensive player (though the impact metrics don't currently suggest that). I think his deal is going to be quite telling, though there is also a decent probability that Amen's offensive limitations get further exposed in the playoffs and make this a really bad comparison.

Good thing Rafael Stone has proven himself to be pretty shrewd with his extensions compared to some if Amen is going to set the market for Castle next year somewhat.

Anyone who says that last point you said is liar
Anyone who isn't French. Impossible isn't French. Victor and FrenchFred are French. Unlike Americans, many Europeans, Asians, etc., many French people don't place that much importance on money. No one wants to be a millionaire in France.

But.... Where this last sentence (It's the same way everyone jerks off to "oh, if I were a billionaire, I'd give so much of it away...!!", yet none of the actual B's are doing it... Wonder why.) rings true for the French is that when you are a millionaire (and there are many of us in France), you are even less inclined than anywhere else to share it. This applies to taxes (my millionaire colleagues know better than anyone how to organize themselves to avoid paying taxes) as well as to charitable works.

Even millionaires in France believe that it is up to the state to provide for the most basic needs of the needy. Millionaires in France don't set up foundations to ease their conscience or promote their egos: they stay in their corner and piss off the lower classes.

The only millionaires who launch such operations are the nouveau riche, and most fortunes in France are the result of inheritance.

Athletes are the nouveau riche. Does that mean Victor doesn't care about those 50 million? Unlikely. Victor is no longer French; he is Bernard (Arnauld)'s friend (I don't yet have that honor) and he is now a French multimillionaire. The mindset tends to... become less French.

Ah, in France, we're less interested in money than elsewhere, but... we're just as stingy. The more we have, the more we want. You never know, in case of a crisis. And it's always money that won't go to the poor.

Yabusele bought out his contract with Europe's biggest club to go to the NBA, and he has just agreed to give up a second guaranteed year to go to Chicago. My hypothesis is that, paradoxically, it's harder to turn down $50 million when you're promised $250 million than it is to turn down $5 million when you were promised $10 million. The richer you are, the more you want. As a modest multimillionaire, I would probably say something different if I were a billionaire, for example. Don't ever trust me.

Rest assured, I didn't earn my millions through my studies in sociology. I simply inherited them like everyone else. And the main thing they allow me to do is demand that my financial experts always do more.

Never become a millionaire. You will exploit your fellow human beings with the idea that they are inferior to you. Let's not confuse class privilege with merit or superiority. However talented or generational Victor may be, he doesn't deserve $250 million, or even $50 million. He'll get it. But no one should decently have such a sum at their disposal. Like fascism, the idea of an ever-widening Ovorton window leads us to believe that the more we are exposed to it, the more acceptable it is.
Fascism and vast fortunes are symptoms of failing democracies. 250 million, like 50, like 10, are anomalies, cries for help that we don't want to hear.

"AND ONE! AND yet another!"

Wasn't it Jalen Brunson who accepted a pay cut precisely to free up cap space for the Knicks?

(I am a millionaire poet. You can subscribe to my newsletter for the super-rich for $40,000.)

Exactly. He'll take the full max, and the Spurs will still surround him with great players. I'm not concerned.

if Castle and Harper "deserve" the max, then we won't have any means to surround them with anybody

I think Amen will get exposed by Wemby style defenses in the playoffs. The plain hard truth is that he can’t fucking shoot. His jumper is Sochan class, and teams will make him shoot, and play off him, killing passing angles.

Wemby needs a huge statement game and a win vs Cade & Pistons if he wants to build momentum for his MVP case

wemby needs to average atleast 29ppg(which is highly unlikely because of load managment)the rest of the season with spurs getting the first seed if he wants yo have a chance to win MVP.

If Wemby gets his PPG to 25 and the Spurs finish 1st, there's a big chance he wins MVP, imho. It shouldn't make a difference, but there's a huge visual distance between 24 and 25 ppg, tbh.:st-lol:

I dont think so. He needs to beat or atlleast get it close to sga 31ppg, luka 32ppg and jokic 29ppg triple double average.

Sga is having a great season with 31/3/6 55%fg. Thats hard to beat if wemby only average 25ppg.lmao

Nah, Wemby has the card of being by far the best defender in the league. 25 ppg, 11 rbds, #1 seed and DPoY should do the trick.

Defense is not a factor on mvp award voting. There is an award for defense and thats dpoy.

25ppg is low in today’s league. Thats an allstar average not superstar.

Ehhh i agree that defense tends to take a back seat here but i wouldn’t call it a non factor
Curry won unanimous mvp without playing defense. Even harden won it. There is an award for best defensive player and thats dpoy.
