Player The Uncertainty Realm of the Improved Jumpshot of Jeremy Sochan

Similarly, shooting under 30% even though nobody guards you will also send you to the pine. There’s no way to game this - he’s not good enough on offense to be a rotation player on this team. Whether he discovers his groove or not, he just isn’t capable of doing…stuff.
Yuh im not holding my breathe, but hate when players just defer to others when theyre so wide open. Even sochan.

That turnaround was his best shot and I don’t understand why it had been complete shelved

not sure but it probably has to do with the positions he was playing.. he was never played like a pure pf but instead as a center or a pg/swingman and him creating his own shot was always among the least favourable options one can think of.. especially given that he is already wide open on the perimeter. Also when he does play pf, he is usually with wemby and there is no reason for him to shoot from the top of the key.

Damn, Sochan's turnaround jumpers look smooth during his college days.

Not if you guys have been watching Phoenix Suns but Dillion Brooks somehow has a bag of offensive weapons now :st-lol: His turnaround jumpers (although ugly) actually resemble Kobe, Nephew, DeRozen tbh.

Sochan's turnaround jumper remind me of Dillion Brooks' new offensive weapon lol

sochan and olynyk have been detrimentally passive when open for a three. Think w sochans benching and whats seems to be more decisive shooting the last couple of games, he hopefully understands being fearful of misses is no longer an option. Hes gotta live or die by being able to shoot, and passing up opportunities will get him put on the pine.
to be clear, olynyk hasnt been passive from 3. he's just been very bad from 3.

he's taking over 5 per 36 minutes which is a fine number for a big. the issue is he's making 23.5% of them. im struggling to think of what KO does better than Mamu tbh, other than providing more significant matching salary (we could have just given mamu 1 year ballast money if we wanted to go that route anyway)

I have always wondered if the issue with Mamu wasn't a matter of dollars but rather of opportunity. If the Spurs only saw the kind of minutes that KO is getting now, it makes sense why Mamu would have sought greener pastures. But it's also kind of crazy that the Spurs couldn't envision a larger role for Mamu considering the complete lack of options at PF.

And the fact that he grew up a Spurs fan and lobed being here. I'm thrilled with Kornett, but I'm sure I'm not the only one wondering if we could have had Mamu and Dom instead of KO and Biyombo.

I don’t think the team respected his abilities during his time here. As evidenced by him sitting on the bench all the f’n time.

Pop speaking highly of him amounted to nothing if he was stapled to the bench. The team didnt think he was good enough because the team makes bad personnel mistakes occasionally and consistently does not know how to rate depth players and prospects that aren’t high pedigree.

He was almost always useful and better than guys ahead on him on the depth chart. But even when we were trying to win the team did not believe he should be a part of that.

No conspiracy or player preference at play imo. Just a whiff that was frustrating for a couple years and culminated this summer.

I was always hoping for a 3rd string Point Mamu scenario to explore that option and possibly unlock his potential, but that was around the time of Point Sochan when anything seemed possible.

we could really need Mamu as the back up PF right now. Raptor fans love him. I think he left cause he got a guaranteed rotation spot in Toronto. Not much the Spurs could've done there.

Never got a fair shake here tbh. He'd actually be a pretty great fit now next to Kornet in the 2nd unit. But happy that he landed on a team where he gets regular minutes.

Is he worth 10 mill a year? Yes he is. Should this team have seen that as his value? Yes they should have.

Rock beats paper. Money beats all of it. He would have loved to come back here with a beefy raise, no question. The team didn’t think he was good though.

Mamu is getting like 2 mil this season. Pretty much the same as Biyombo :st-lol:

Tynan can be overly homer at times (and he is certainly been mentored well by the SA Media to be a mouthpiece for the team), but I felt this was one of those most pragmatic discussions of the value Sochan can provide to the team in the first half of this podcast:
