Player The Uncertainty Realm of the Improved Jumpshot of Jeremy Sochan

Guys please don't call Gortat racist based on dumb AI translation. In polish calling someone raisin has nothing to do with his skin colour or race. It means that someone is the only one of a kind somewhere. Like that Jeremy is the only one Pole in NBA he is our raisin there. And will be until someone else joins him or he leaves to China.

Yabusele and Sochan might be be an interesting and worthwhile swap? Both could use a fresh start and Sochan is an expiring. Yabu's passing, rebounding and small ball center possibilities might fit. Certainly seems like an upgrade over Sochan.
Yabusele would be a downgrade at this point

There was already enough information for coherent-brained people to understand he isn’t racist. But this is good context, thanks.

Spurs really shot themselves in he foot in the 2021 (Primo) and 2022 (Sochan, Branham, Wesley) drafts, but as horrendous as that stretch was it's hard to envision the 2023, 2024 and 2025 drafts going better, so all I'll happily take that.
Would have been difficult for anyone to mess up picking #1, #2 & #4? I guess they get some credit for drafting Castle.

Don’t forget “future franchise player” Josh Primo
don't know why you out air quotes on it. it was a bleak time. assuming primo wears pants to therapy, it would've been a low ranking offense, slow play but who knows maybe primo panned out. primo the fake all star isn't much worse than if we kept dejounte murray.

He has never looked like an NBA player to me and more likely than not will be out of the league fairly soon. At the time you can rationalize him getting drafted at all. In hindsight, no.

It’s ok if you disagree but sorry, I think he is sincerely that bad.
...

plenty of talking heads on the podcast circuit and many posters here over the summer were predicting 4/$60-80 extension for Sochan, so it wouldn't surprise me if he thought he was in that ballpark
Some were saying north of 100M :ROFLMAO:

If Sochan was following Reddit or his stans on Twitter he might very well have thought that actually.

You can still find professional podcasters talking about him as one of Spurs's strengths and reasons they can be contenders, lmao

The Rivers kid or some of the best like Zach Lowe still a couple of weeks ago mentioned him as well smh

Not sure how many people actually watch the games, maybe we have a shot at finding a team that thinks he's good...

I’m 100% pro not giving Jeremy a contract. Can we all say that we were hoping he would be a better than he was his rookie year. I don’t know about y’all, but I’m disappointed and there’s no reason to fucking disparage the dude. He is out of the rotation and the writing is on the wall. I feel sorry for the guy he’s lost his rotation. He didn’t get an extension. His NBA career has gone sideways. He’s still a Spur I think it behooves all of us for him in spot minutes to play well no?. Let’s have some class and know that he’s going to be gone next year.

Highly doubt we’re able to “net a real difference” maker in exchange for Sochan :st-lol: Unless we attach some actually valuable draft capital along with it.

If some team out there wants to bet on him turning things around then I’d jump all over that…just seems unlikely.
It's not about getting a difference maker in a trade, it's about keeping that asset alive through trade to live another day. Losing a top 9 lottery pick 4 years later for no compensation in return is malpractice. With Primo and now Sochan, that would be two years in a row we won't be able to convey a top pick for future assets if we don't make a trade. Even trading Sochan for future seconds is better long term than just letting him walk. I do think his market will establish itself in the offseason via sign and trade as a restricted free agent.

People (including podcasters) were talking about extending Sochan for about 20 million AAV in the offseason... most are just spewing nonsense, making their minds on boxscores and trends. Might as well ask ChatGPT, TBH.

PS: I bet some GMs are not too far off

ha, I had to have someone explain that scene to me because I had no idea germans used a different 'three' with their fingers than humans. Er, I mean, Americans

This is loser stuff. Getting caught in your feelings as a pro player and sharing with strangers. Good players aren’t even supposed to sulk. Who would want to sign a bad player who does it? If you’re the 11th priority on a team how can you feel comfortable highlighting your bad mood?

Haven't followed NY much and no idea why he's been really bad this season.

He's the butt of every jokes with embarrassing compilations etc

I’m not saying that I don’t think he should be traded. Just commenting on the wording of the tweet that was posted alluding to the Spurs getting a “difference maker”.

I’m totally fine with moving Sochan…just wouldn’t expect much in return unless we attach draft capital to him.

Serious question, what kind of numbers do we think Sochan would put in the G League? Would he "dominate" that league with the usual 10 points and 5 rebounds?

Someone (I can't remember who) claimed he'd score 50 in Summer League... I'd bet heavily against that Prop :st-lol:

I wonder if a G-League stint might be in his best interest not only for getting more into a game rhythm but to also showcase something for other teams. Getting blowout minutes and putting up zeros in the box score certainly won't. He'd be better of not playing at all in that case.

At this point, I've made the conscious decision that there is no longer any need to discuss Sochan's talents and his role with the Spurs. It seems like that is pretty much settled.

With that said, the Spurs like to do right by their guys when they trade them away. With that in mind, it is probably in Jeremy's best interest to get traded ASAP where he has a chance to show something by the end of the year for a team who will have his Bird Rights and at the very least earn a QO. I don't think the Spurs would use a QO on him if off-season started today, and I think the worst case scenario for Jeremy will be to hit UFA as a guy who got sent to the end of the bench and didn't earn a QO from the Spurs. Even Lonnie Walker was getting regular minutes for us in his last year and (temporarily) earned a QO... and all that got him was a 1-year Tax Player MLE deal.

Any team who believes in Sochan's talents enough to give him more than a 1-year deal, should also believe in them enough to want to secure his Bird Rights.

All good points! Jeremy's real problem is mental, I believe. He's lost his confidence and needs to regain it, soon. If the G-League accomplishes that, great. I truly hope he has therapists and life coaches that are helping him. He's got the tools to play in the league at some level. Without confidence, it's not going to happen. Posting mopey, emo, depressed IGs is not going to help his cause.
