Player The Uncertainty Realm of the Improved Jumpshot of Jeremy Sochan

His Archetype doesn't really have a place in today's league. The days of small power forwards is over. This is no longer a league for the Dejuan Blair's of the world. I wonder how Collin Murray Boyles is doing these days? Like i was saying earlier either these guys can create a mismatch problem for other teams or they are the mismatch problem themselves. Proof is in the pudding. You are either producing out there (offensively/defensively) or your not. Sochan is not.

Well according to AI that’s all Sweeney fault. Lol.
That being said Sochan needs to demand for a trade. The second we (correctly) started playing Kelly over him, his agent should have been on the phone asking around for his next team.

Which leads me to believe that the Spurs still have an offer on the board for Sochan. Personally I hope it’s a 2 year offer in the same mold as Tre got a couple years ago, but the fact that Sochan hasn’t asked for a trade on a contract year despite not playing at all must mean something the Spurs have told him is positive for him going forward
That ai view would’ve made sense if KJ and Vassell are not getting time as well but they are getting time and contributing. Both were arguably worse defenders and ball watched even worse last year but they’ve adapted.

Like RC drunkford pointed out his defence has been ass this year as well. He has gotten worse at everything he was good at and not gotten better at anything he was bad at.
If it wasn't taboo, Jeremy would actually benefit from playing in the G-League. He has absolutely no flow right now and doesn't even expend maximum energy in the rare minutes he gets. To me it looks like he is coasting and when you combine that in a contract year you basically have to question the mental fortitude of a player like that.

Sochan’s Instagram. Wondering if this is basketball or dating related. He’s giving some real Lonnie vibes lately.
This is loser stuff. Getting caught in your feelings as a pro player and sharing with strangers. Good players aren’t even supposed to sulk. Who would want to sign a bad player who does it? If you’re the 11th priority on a team how can you feel comfortable highlighting your bad mood?

Have to say, that I feel sorry for him (and always thought, there was some value of having him on the team)...but as of right now, his only chance of staying might be a minimum contract.

I wonder if any other team gives him more. Best thing for him might be to sign a minimum or near minimum one year contract with a team like Charlotte, Brooklyn or Atlanta and bet on himself.

I hope Sochan doesn’t read the takes about him on here for his own sake lol. Wouldn’t help with how he’s feeling right now.

Sochan played excellent D for the last month or so.. Was pretty far away from the offensive scheme but theoretically I have no problem with that. Too bad it wont matter in the end.

He’s someone who shouldn’t have been a draft pick, really. So there’s some other guy out there whose career was shifted down to make room for Jeremy. I can’t feel bad for someone who extracted several millions of dollars that were meant for someone else.

I was always a pretty big sochan fan and supporter…sucks to see his time most likely coming to an end like this. dude just doesn’t have it in this setting for whatever reason

Going to speak Sochan + Olynyk for JoCo (and maybe cp3) into existence

This was his start to last season. Shocking downfall. He may not even get his Loonie's Lakers-Dubs series moment before he's out of the leagueScreenshot_20-12-2025_83037_www.espn.com.webp

It's pretty clear that he's completely broken down. I bet he'll build back up and dig his way out of it. He's on the perfect squad if guys to cheer for him when he does.

It’s crap take like this that just goes overboard. Not the ninth pick? Sure. Not a pick at all?

Still think Sochan has room to grow, but it has to be in a do-or-die situation tbh. Prolly won't happen on the Spurs but I could see it on a team that's building for the (far) future.

He has never looked like an NBA player to me and more likely than not will be out of the league fairly soon. At the time you can rationalize him getting drafted at all. In hindsight, no.

It’s ok if you disagree but sorry, I think he is sincerely that bad.

Before this year he has been consistently ranked by most advanced metrics to be an above average defender (in some cases 80th %ile + in some metrics) and bottom quartile offensive player, though nowhere the worst. There is literally no way to rationalize that he is not a draft pick at all.

Of course it’s time to hit the “I feels” when tow posts ago you were criticizing him for reaching into the feelings.

It's harsh but it's not an absurd take considering he wouldn't be a 1RP if we did the draft again.

It's mostly bc of the new analytic driven generation that lacks real competent eyes.

D Queen is a perfect (opposite) example of a player undervalued by all but one FO bc the data aren't as flattering as Dumars's eyes told him.

My 1st impressions of Sochan were horrible but bc most Spurs fans were so excited about him I chose to wait and see what I was missing but in the end all of them came back to where I was, I've never seen a least skilled player getting so much playing time in +30 years of watching bb closely.

Sochan isn't a basketball player, he has no feel for the game, I'm not sure if he really likes basketball tbh, it's just a hustle for him to get a bag.

Wish him the best, nothing personal, just observations.

Sochan would be a perfect example to use to show the limits of metrics and data analysis in basketball.

It's always been just part of a larger picture to get the proper conclusions but it's used as THE only source of decision-making.

Sometimes, like in Sochan's case and others, it's a trap

Dude, there's just no way a player with Sochan's physical tools isn't a draft pick at all. He's got the height, physical frame, and basic qualities to be a draft prospect, and that's not very arguable (which exactly of his metrics is not even "second-rounder" quality?).

Jeremy is about the billionth young player drafted for physical tools with the ever-pressing asterisk of "if he ever learns to shoot......", except he spectacularly failed at that portion, much more so than similar prospects who at least learn to be serviceable at it over time. Does that mean none of the prospects had business being drafted? Of course not - it just means you can't predict human progress or development in a linear, objective, or conclusive fashion.

You should also factor in that his looking worse this season isn't only his play in a vacuum -- the team around him has elevated, the expectations are higher, leashes are shorter and timelines accelerated. He could absolutely contribute to a team like last night's Atlanta, or tomorrow's Washington teams.

There's two sides to this coin though, and Primo is on the other end of it - sometimes the eye is just as deceiving, if not more so, than stats themselves. Ask the Kings front office how many times they've been burned by what their eyes "told them", starting with the Bagley pick.

The Spurs should forget "if he ever learn to shoot". Last time they had Chip to teach Nephew. Now it is a gamble for the players themselves to train until they develop a reliable jumper
