News The Official Check Here Before Asking About Injury Return Dates Thread

Haliburton had a calf injury right before his achilles exploded. I'd be fine with holding Harper out until December tbh
So did Dame.
And KD back in the day.

Losing Harper sucks short-term, but we absolutely can't risk anything because he's a potential superstar and it's not like we're going to win it all this season.
Every day without practice adds two days of conditioning. I'd be surprised if we see him before 2026.

this is why we didn't bring Fox back prematurely. Green hurt is hammy in training camp, tried to come back, re-injured it in his 2nd game back
Not to mention it's one of those injuries that doesn't go away if not healed properly and it's arguably the worst injury to have after Achilles tears for explosive players.
If Fox fucks up his hamstring, he'll lose his best attribute.

Zion says hello…

Fox said he talked to a lot of other players about it and they feel ready to go too early and then reaggrevate the injury, so holding him out until their absolutely sure it's fully healed is the right thing to do. Not to mention that if you tear your ACL you're out for a whole year and then need another year to get back to being the player you used to be (if you are under 30 that is). That's basically 2 years lost. You don't want that to happen to anybody.

Wasn't someone recently commending the PHX medical staff as elite here at BB?
Glad we took the slower, safer path.

The entire reason they suckered NOP into giving them their pick back. Same shit with KD, so yeah the Spurs need to be very conservative with Dylan's recovery because the last thing we need is an achilles tear threatening this man's career before it even really gets started. Get that calf strong and let's see Dylan play 15+ years.

I’m ok w the Spurs staff keeping guys out until they’re 100%, especially lower body stuff. Fox, for example, relies on his speed and quickness so much that his hamstring needs to be fully healed to play well and a recurring hammy would be a disaster. As long as Wemby is playing we have a chance to win every game and we have a deep stable of capable playmakers around him so we can afford to rotate them through injuries etc.
Harper is a similar player in that he uses sudden bursts to break down the defense. A calf injury needs to be babied for that reason alone, not to mention the correlation with Achilles injuries. I expect Harper to be out 2 months, no joke.
Manu should have a talk with him about just being patient, rehab/get it healed, and the impact he can have on the team when he comes back, as it seems a similar thing has happened with him to start his rookie season (ankle injury with Manu). This is feeling like the 2003 season to me a little bit. I think Manu wasn't right those first 2-3 months, then he came back being a key player off the bench on a Championship run. I'm not saying the Spurs will go on that type of run, but you never know, they can make some noise in the playoffs if they're healthy IMO.

We can’t take winning for granted, but as long as we are winning, we need to prioritize the healthiest possible team to start the playoffs. That means letting guys rest and recover from games and injuries.
The question becomes when we choose to let Wemby rest because he’s the only guy we absolutely need if we are to keep winning games.

if anyone has a Spurs stream, please send via DM.

I have Bulls streams if anyone needs

Yeah, Spurs medical staff know what they are doing ..Always among the best in the business, if not the best. Expect the same methodical, cautious approach they accorded to Fox's hammy with Harper's calf..They will err on that side to protect the kid's future health prospects

Harper Still In Walking Boot

Rookie guard Dylan Harper did not make the trip with the Spurs to Chicago, instead remaining in San Antonio to rehab from a left calf strain.
Harper has been in a walking boot since suffering the injury Nov. 2 at Phoenix and has not been participating in any on-court activities. Johnson said before Monday’s game he hoped to receive an update on Harper’s progress after the team returned from Chicago.

Headache fells Vassell

Starting shooting guard Devin Vassell exited Monday’s contest after 5:23 of the second half with a migraine and did not return.

Johnson said he did not think the condition would affect Vassell going forward.
“He’s fine now,” Johnson said after the game. “He tried to come up and say he’s feeling better. I didn’t get the thumbs up from the medical staff (to put him back in) but he’s fine.”
