Raw +/- is always going to be problematic. Thankfully advanced Stats like EPM etc are much more useful in measuring impact.
It makes little sense to compare teammates using raw +/- as well as most of them play at the same time too. (especially Devin, Champs, and Barnes).
The real takeaway for me based on EPM stats this year versus last is the fact that all three, Devin, Champs, Keldon and Barnes have improved over their previous year's numbers on impact. Barnes was already very good on offense but his net positive contributions on defense (even if it is not something humongous) makes him a very valuable role player, especially someone who is shooting 45% of his threes. Champs is probably the most valuable role player relative to salary in the league or at least in the top 5 in that list. Keldon's numbers are outstanding for a sixth-seventh man this year. And Devin, relative to last year, has definitely improved on both ends of the floor.
It is just that the expectations for Devin are higher, because of higher salary and also because of the fact that he is a sixth year player who was drafted as a lottery pick by the Spurs. Unlike the rest (Barnes, Champs and Keldon). I would say all said and done, Devin has begun the journey of redemption, based on this year's play, even if he hasn't reached the heights expected out of him. We will soon see when Wemby and Castle are back and we will have a whole squad and will feature lineups where Devin will be a secondary scorer and a disruptive off-ball defender. If he thrives in that role, he will be a keeper.
