This.. Modern medicine and the advancement in the fields of nutrition and fitness techniques in professional sports have extended athletes primes significantly (soccer, tennis, NFL, pretty much in every major discipline)..I mean ACL injuries have become a non-issue in the NBA and players are even coming back and looking fine from the previously horrific Achilles tear, which used to be a career-ender, tbh..

so yeah, age 33 today is basically like being a 28 year-old in 2012..But you can also say Barnes is an ironman with proven durability. The Kings are really dumb. A player like Barnes should have been the long-tenured vet with Championship experience that you keep on your roster to set the culture and locker room.. Every young team need that type of guy..

Agree HB is still relatively young at 33, however he has played 1005 career RS games and about 70 playoff games. That’s ALOT. Came into the league young and has been an Ironman since then. So there’s mileage there.

Good thing is his game should age relatively well given its ground based and based on shooting. Hopefully the defense and rebounding don’t fall off a cliff.

I mean the only reason I viewed him as a trade chip is his expiring contract. Otherwise he‘s always been a keeper. Probably better suited as a bench player on a championship team, but definitely worth to keep in the rotation.

He's been a model teammate and has given so much to the community in his short time with the team. A Spur in every sense of the word. I hope he'll be willing to extend on a modest deal to finish out his career, and if he is interested in coaching/FO roles, the Spurs are probably able and willing to facilitate that kind of long term goal for him, as we have with other guys in the past.

I think he'll still be a contributor for us this year, this man takes care of his body and while he has his limitations on the boards and defensive end, I don't necessarily see him slowing down for now. At some point, however, he'll need to transition to a bench role and then eventually move further down the bench. Kind of like Dougy McBuckets when he was here (though his transition to end of bench guy and then to trade fodder was a rapid one).

I could definitely see Black Falcon, Lunch Lady, Swipa and KornDog forming a modern version of the Coffee Gang.

As I said when he joined, I want him to be Finley 2.0.
Give him a let's say 24/3 extension next summer. He isn't even that old, those would be his age 34-36 seasons.
One of the best locker room presences in the league and a model professional. If we let him go, we'll need to find someone similar to lead this bunch of kids for a couple more years.

He's been very good offensively, but let's not kid ourselves, the defense is clearly a hindrance and he's playing off ball. Let's not pretend like he's some world beater now.
