Player The Burgeoning 3&D American Sign Language Consulate of Carter Bryant

It’s ok to criticize CB in a reactionary game thread. It’s what everyone does. It isn’t misplaced and it certainly doesn’t mean others are getting a free pass from criticism. It just so happens that what he shows is that bad to post about it. I don’t understand the notion of ignoring everything bad he does just because he’s young and shows something from to time. It’s hills and valleys with him and the valleys are low, like really low.

The comment about fundamentals must be a joke, right? He looks like he’s running to every loose ball without a thought in his brain of how to maneuver his body to be in a better position to receive it. This is not an indictment of who he will become, but commentary of who he is right now. I know we are all fans of this team, but it’s okay to make comments about individual players even if it it’s negative.

I never said "he's young and shows something from time...." but that he happened to get playing time just when the whole team sucked, you just want to ignore how it can impact a rookie I guess or how suddenly having playing time after all this wait could've made him rush things (a natural reaction even more the younger u are).

I'm fine being criticized for my pov but at least don't put words in my mouth or over simplify my point.

As for the fundamentals, I maintain my point, his ball handling, shooting and even court vision are decent or don't show bad habits that would require a lot of work like Sochan's shot or ball handling did.

"He looks like he's running to every loose ball ..." has to do with BBIQ and decision-making, not fundamentals.

He's a one and done rookie who wasn't even a starter in college, he didn't have plenty of playing time from the get-go like Sochan did to get comfortable but had to wait and only gets bits of PT here and there. It'd be difficult for a experienced player so imagine for a rookie...

The main reason I posted was because from all the issues last night's game have shown, CB's play doesn't scratch the top10 AND most of the reactions were not just criticizing his production but making DEFINITIVE statements about him.

Had you read me properly instead of being defensive (I wasn't targeting any one in particular) maybe you'd have spotted it, it's just the 2nd line...

CB’s iso defense remains as promising as it was in SL. He is absolutely looking like a guy who will hit “I dare you” 3’s. He’s big and athletic and that’s also good.

He cannot modulate his level of energy and struggles with processing. Both of these are things that guys have improved at with age.

He’s not a good or bad pick yet. And as far as projects go…at least this one has good form on his jumper.

He's got promising attributes, plays hard and appears to take things seriously. Three really good attributes to look for in a young prospect. He may very well amount to nothing, and that will be squarely in line with the typical outcomes of a late lotto pick. Hopefully we catch the right side of variance this time.

Of all of the issues with our team the last two games, Carter Bryant is very low down on the list
totally. I think that CB getting playing time is more an indication of our lack of forwards than him showing signs of being decent. He should play every single game in the G-league instead of getting 5 minutes every other game with the Spurs and we should go after a SF-PF via a trade

He looks star struck out there tbh. A kid playing with his heroes. I’m good with him staying in the big league and becoming bored with how awesome and famous everyone is.

As I said he defends and shoots 3s, that alone gives him a place in the league. His rebounding is also very good and he‘s a great athlete.

But one thing he really gotta work on is finishing at the rim. There was a fastbreak against the Jazz where he had a defender on his hip and the lay up he attempted had no chance of going in.

This team wants to run and finishing fast breaks is a big part of that.

It's jumping the gun to make any sort of conclusions on him. Those two missed alley oops were 8 point swings in the game, though. Love the guy's energy, defensive mindset, athleticism, shooting form and potential. I'm glad they are finding some minutes for him and hope they keep giving him a small but consistent role in the rotation. It's only going to accelerate his learning curve.

yeah, he just seems like that kid that you put into the game because of his physical tools but he's just all over the place and can't calm down. if he can just get the game to slow down for him, i think we would see better results. it's frustrating because you see the potential for him as becoming that big, athletic wing we need, but he's also just so unpolished.

Good to see him work on the basics, none of that stepback and off the dribble shit Jeremy was doing.
If the guard whisperer could make him another Castle, damn!

I like CB. He’s a local here at Riverside, from a real good family, an athletic freak, wayyy better than Sochan now and just a rookie, golden boy and not a knucklehead. I keep hoping he’ll grow taller and step in as Spurs mobile PF

As others have stated, I get a strong sense that his nervous system is out of control. That will eventually change. I think he's better than he shows and just needs to get grounded and reps with the big boys is the best route for that, especially since Sochan's play has opened up some minutes. He's so out of control and often overruns defensive assignments and still manages to get back into the play and contest a shot. Once he settles down and uses his athleticism more wisely, he'll be a keeper. It's just going to take some time and he's hundreds of mistakes away from that now.

Fwiw, Carlisle praised him post game and said that he was among our guys that kept the energy going and that the offensive rebounds we got in that period were momentum killers for the Pacers.
there's nothing less valuable than a coaches praise

he's honestly hard to watch... how can someone this long and athletic miss so many dunks?

Unfortunately, Carter Bryant has relatively small hands. Given his size, he struggles to grip and control the ball the way other players of similar build can. This is likely the main reason he lacks a consistent layup package and often loses the ball when attempting one-handed dunks. Only time will tell if this limitation will affect his development moving forward.

He needs to build confidence. Unlike Harper or Steph last year, Austin makes a lot of sense for him.

Is there some reason he's not in Austin right now? Obviously management thinks he's a top 10 roster player but I'm not seeing it and it doesn't sound like anyone else is either. He looks like a frightened puppy.

i think they kinda need the bodies with Sochan indefinitely benched and Vic’s playing time being inconsistent.

What's with this he shoots 3s comment? Yeah he shoots em n thats bad cause he doesn't make em. I feel that their losses eerily coincided with his playing time. Our losses are close so those few point swings when he's in are actually relevant
