Player The Burgeoning 3&D American Sign Language Consulate of Carter Bryant

He’s not the solution this year, and spot minutes won’t properly develop him. He needs heavy rotation minutes and development coaching in Austin.
if we stop blowing huge leads in the 3rd quater against shit teams, there would be way more than spot minutes for him lol

Bryant started getting regular minutes in Phoenix and played at least 6 minutes in 8 consecutive games. That's all I'm asking Mitch does as long as Bryant isn't ready for more.

He had 18 rebounds in 78 minutes, one every 4:20.
For comparison, Barnes gets one every 9 minutes.
Champ is at 5:10 and Keldon is at 3:40 per rebound.

Obviously Bryant's sample size is small, but he's clearly a better rebounder than Barnes.

He's at 5-14 from 3pt in those 8 games, so it's not that bad.
And his +/- is +25, with just one negative game, -3 in 9 minutes against the Cavs.

he basically played until it was time for the cup elimination games, where they shortened the rotation to simulate a playoff environment, which was probably the right call.

i fully expect him to go back to getting those ~10 mpg he had been getting before the laker game with the opportunity to earn more if he shows consistency

He played until everyone got back healthy. The big four, plus Sochan, all missed time. Those minutes are gone.

he didnt play against the lakers when wemby wasnt back yet, but he still got his regular minute in the previous game vs the pelicans upon castle's return

Whatever. I’m not going to quibble over one game. The fact remains that he was only playing because the big four, Sochan, and Kornet all missed time.

I’ll give him some slack cause he’s still new but I’m so unimpressed. Needs to get proper development or this is Sochan 2.0 all over again.

You can see glimmers on defense but his offense is so far off at this point

He should of been in the gleague this past month. Not sure wtf our development team and coaches are thinking.
Dude barely played in college,Now not even getting play time in the nba.Send him to the austin spurs to get some reps ffs.

this guy can't finish at the rim to save his life. At least he defends and can shoot the 3, but he should really get some development in the G-League, so he can learn how to efficiently score around the basket.

I watched Bryant’s minutes and he was far from the problem. Yeah the missed 2 dunks he prob should have made but one was contested well from behind by Porter and the alley oop im not sure what happened there either it had too much heat on it or he wasn’t expecting the pass from Fox.

At least he played disciplined defense which you can’t say the same for most of the others. Go watch some of the basic breakdowns in defense on the Cavs 3’s. Laughable.

CB was fine. One of his miss is a foul.
And he wasn't shooting 3s as the offense was not able to generate open looks

The issue yesterday was the 3 PG and Wemby not generating open looks for the others

In the 10 or so minutes of the game I watched (not continuously), I saw the missed dunk and I believe he was fouled on that play. I didn't see the other one.

First dunk was definitely fouled on his arm

Second dunk there is a defender closing in behind him and I thought Fox threw it a bit too far

Bryant has been just fine for a late-lottery rookie, a bit underwhelming on finishing but nothing too concerning.

Most of the hate he's gotten is quite misplaced and should be aimed at the actual experienced and professional role-players that have been shitting the bed so much, and failing to adapt their games to be useful if their shot isn't falling.

This guy was always a project. But I’m as surprised as anyone that he isn’t getting g minutes.

Seems of all people he’d benefit the most from that.

I know we lost it sucks blabla...

But wtf is wrong with all of you and your definitive conclusions on CB suddenly??

He finally gets some playing time, it happens when the whole teams sucks, and you expect him to be the difference maker?

He'll be fine, he was probably a bit nervous, who wouldn't after waiting so long to play? He also got fouls not called if you remember...

He's already shown to me more reasons to be optimistic than I've ever seen from Sochan, he has decent fundamentals, the form of his shot isn't bad, I don't see any reasons for pessimism long term.

Just watching how much better Cody looked when we faced the Jazz compared to how bad he was last season is a good comp.

His rebounding looks good and he's adding value in that regard.

His per36 rebounding stats are on par with Olynyk's with Wemby, Kornet and Keldon being the only better rebounders.
Champ is close, Barnes/Vassell/Castle far behind.

It's obvious what the Spurs see in him and they think having him develop in a limited role he'll likely have in the future is better than being in a different role in G-league.

He already looks way better than he did a few months ago, as soon as he stops getting baited into dumb mistakes on defense he'll be a way better asset on that end than Barnes/Champ/Keldon/Devin and at that point the only thing he'll need to do to be a positive contributor is to hit his wide open 3s at a decent rate and to not miss wide open layups and dunks.

Of all of the issues with our team the last two games, Carter Bryant is very low down on the list

It’s ok to criticize CB in a reactionary game thread. It’s what everyone does. It isn’t misplaced and it certainly doesn’t mean others are getting a free pass from criticism. It just so happens that what he shows is that bad to post about it. I don’t understand the notion of ignoring everything bad he does just because he’s young and shows something from to time. It’s hills and valleys with him and the valleys are low, like really low.

The comment about fundamentals must be a joke, right? He looks like he’s running to every loose ball without a thought in his brain of how to maneuver his body to be in a better position to receive it. This is not an indictment of who he will become, but commentary of who he is right now. I know we are all fans of this team, but it’s okay to make comments about individual players even if it it’s negative.
