Misc The abandoned East European server room of LJ and Kori Ellis

There's not even a game thread over there. That place is dead.
Oh, but now there's people arguing politics even on the Spurs board :ROFLMAO:

SpursTalk demise feels like an inside job, whoever was left in charge took it upon themselves to do everything possible to drive people away. Shame.

so what spurstalk poster from the beginning would take the site, the $3000, be deluded into thinking signup fees would fun the site, would haphazardly introduce ads, could it be? i think the orig forum thread linked above mention sequ and DPG but i think those are jokes?

It's like the plot of a 90s comedy movie. Evil owner has to get these pesky kids out of the way to make room for the new condos

I’m guessing there was an NDA involved. The horrible performance of ST led to this place, but I think most decided to stay and make this a home when it was revealed that Kori and LJ don’t run the old place any more. If they had put up bids, people would have known they were out, and an exodus would have followed. They would have gotten a lower price.
I thought of this also, but it doesn't match the timvp post at all -- he explicitly mentions receiving offers to sale but opting out of them:

Although we have received lucrative offers to sell the message board and the domain, we have instead handed the keys over (...)

Either timvp's entire post and story is a complete lie, or they really didn't get money from the ST COO (even 'losing' $3k allegedly). So it doesn't track that they avoided mentioning their departure/stepping down for monetary reasons (and they did, quite publicly, announce that they "don't run the old place anymore"... It's just that everyone forgot about it :st-lol:)

By the way, and off-topic, did anyone else know that LJ and Kori have four children IRL??

From Kori's ST Bio:

Kori Ellis was a credentialed reporter covering the Spurs from 2003 through 2008. Reporting for various publications including WOAI.com and the Virgin Islands Daily News, Kori witnessed the Spurs win three NBA championships and attended multiple All-Star games during that successful five-season stretch. Today, she watches the Spurs from the sidelines alongside her husband and four children.

It's no wonder that they had to hand over the keys to the site, tbh. That's quite a demanding personal life.

Maybe the announcement came after the birth of their last one? :st-lol:

IIRC they adopted, at least one for sure. I think Kori posted some pics at one point.

riveting stuff going on at the other place :st-lol:

lmao, we should all take turns posting "NO GAME GRADES?" with increasingly more deranged emoji strings throughout the season

I was a loudmouth sumbich Suns fan and they never treated me badly for it. Let me feel at home during our most heated of battles in 2005-2007. Appreciated them immensely for their approach to the forums in those days. I’m insanely mellow now and just want to talk your freakshow of a center and Carter Bryant now, but I hope they’re well wherever.

Kori was on here last month and said all was well tbh.

They were good people. Went to a couple of the playoff road game watch parties back in the day in 2004/2005 and they were gracious and friendly hosts. Days when there was internet and the forums, but full blown toxic social media had not arrived yet. I wonder if the changes in behavior at ST in the early 2010s convinced them to abandon it. I know abandoned by old username and left for good in 2011/2012.

Hopefully this place can capture just a little of that old 2005 era feel.

Is it really Kori and LJ still writing current Spurs content?

I seriously doubt it, it looks AI generated. Maybe they give the owners permission to put their names on it or even generate the content themselves but nobody works for free and that website can’t be generating enough income to pay all these writers. It’s been a ghost town for most of the past ten years. Facebook and social media in general killed the old fashioned forum unfortunately. Very few large forums from the golden era still exist.

I’m betting a dollar that those articles are being written on a timed schedule and by AI.

If not entirely AI generated, at the very least they're mostly AI generated with perhaps a human touch here and there. But feels like very formulaic stuff, I've felt this way for the last couple of years TBH. I don't think this can happen without LJ and Kori Ellis' consent, which coupled with their failure to acknowledge / address everything that's been going on, further reinforces my belief they just don't give a crap anymore.

If a girl doesn't return your messages repeatedly, the lack of communication IS communicating something. Some of us have been digesting this for quite a while, others are probably still holding out hope, but we're past the point of no return IMO and the damage they've done to ST is beyond repair.

the last time timvp was posting interesting content was 2024 pre-draft stuff about the spurs big boards etc

I dunno, chatgpt is pretty shitty at generating game grades. I asked it to grade the Spurs vs Loong Lions game, I even gave it a link to the box score and this is what it spat out :st-lol: :

Spurs vs. Guangzhou Loong Lions — Player Grades (Oct. 6, 2025)

The Spurs eased into their preseason slate with a dominant showing over the visiting Loong Lions, giving fans a glimpse of both the present and future. San Antonio’s young core looked sharp, confident, and eager to run. Here’s how everyone graded out:

Victor Wembanyama — A

Wemby was in complete command from the opening tip — smooth, effortless, and locked in. He finished with 19 points, 5 boards, and 3 assists in limited minutes, hitting threes, finishing lobs, and swatting shots like it was second nature. The poise and shot-making were elite-level stuff. You could tell he’s added confidence — and maybe a little muscle — since last season. Exactly the kind of preseason dominance you want from your franchise cornerstone.

Devin Vassell — A-

Vassell looked like a man ready to step into his prime. He poured in 18 points on efficient shooting, including a few clean pull-ups that reminded everyone why he’s so vital to San Antonio’s spacing. His defense and off-ball movement were crisp, and he looked fully comfortable sharing touches with Wemby. Minor turnovers aside, a professional, high-confidence outing.

Chris Paul — B+

The newest Spur showed exactly why he was brought in — stability and IQ. CP3 orchestrated the offense beautifully, dishing out 8 assists in 16 minutes while rarely forcing the issue. He’s clearly still adjusting to his new teammates, but his presence gave the young group a sense of structure and calm. Spurs fans got their first glimpse of the “Wemby whisperer” in action.

Jeremy Sochan — B

Sochan’s energy was trademark — active defense, rebounding, and point-forward creation. He tallied 7 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists, doing a bit of everything. His shot still looked a little shaky from deep, but he continues to impact the game even when the scoring isn’t loud. A solid preseason start in his evolving role alongside Paul and Wemby.

Keldon Johnson — B-

Keldon was fine but unspectacular, finishing with 9 points and 3 rebounds. He attacked the basket with his usual aggression but forced a few drives and didn’t quite look in rhythm. Still, his physicality and motor remain valuable — he’s the emotional tone-setter even on quieter nights.

Stephon Castle — A-

The rookie looked poised beyond his years. Castle’s 12 points, 4 rebounds, and active defense stood out, especially his willingness to attack the rim and absorb contact. He defended well on the perimeter and showed real maturity handling the ball in spurts. A polished preseason debut that hinted at his two-way potential.

Malaki Branham — B

Branham gave the Spurs a nice scoring punch off the bench, hitting a couple of midrange jumpers en route to 10 points. He looked more decisive with the ball and competed defensively. Nothing flashy, but a steady effort — and it’s clear he’s vying for that rotation spot with intent.

Dominick Barlow — B+

Barlow continues to look like one of San Antonio’s most underrated pieces. He posted 14 points and 6 rebounds in efficient fashion, running the floor and finishing strong. His chemistry with Wemby and his defensive effort stood out again. Quietly productive and trending upward.

Charles Bassey — B

Bassey contributed solid interior minutes, grabbing boards and protecting the rim. His 6 rebounds and 2 blocks were right in line with what the Spurs expect from him — physical, reliable, and low-maintenance. A good reminder of his value as a backup big.

Julian Champagnie — B-

Champagnie found his rhythm late, finishing with 11 points and hitting a couple of corner threes. His defense remains inconsistent, but when his shot is falling, he fits beautifully into San Antonio’s modern spacing schemes. A mixed but encouraging performance.

Sidy Cissoko — C+

Cissoko’s effort was there, but the polish wasn’t. He had a few nice defensive plays but looked tentative offensively. With the roster deeper than last year, he’ll need a strong preseason to earn minutes — this was a lukewarm start.

Overall Team Grade — A-

The Spurs did exactly what you’d hope: dominated from start to finish, moved the ball with purpose, and gave fans glimpses of the new hierarchy forming around Wembanyama, Paul, and Vassell. The defense looked engaged, and the offense flowed better than expected for early October. The chemistry isn’t all the way there yet — but it’s coming fast.

Where did it even get these numbers from :st-lol:

It made them up. That's how LLMs work, they string together plausibly connected words with zero awareness. Sometimes you get useful results that are close to reality, sometimes you get complete nonsense like this.

Well, that was kind of half ass'd by you both TBH. You could create a template with basic structure, possible conclusions from certain input, use player profile, scouting reports and advanced stats (even if not openly stated), historical data on players, sample grades from other games, etc. Also not sure what model you used, but not all are created equal. You need a lot more effort initially, but once it's set up, it should generate fairly reasonable reports.
