I would just like to challenge this premise.

The Spurs have made a trade at or ahead of the deadline every year since 2020-21, and a trade "of significance" (meaning a rotation player coming in or leaving) every year from 2021-22. I'd say the least significant of these moves is when we sent out McBuckets in 2024. But every other year was pretty significant:

2022 - sent out Derrick White
2023 - sent out Jakob
2024 - sent out Dougie
2025 - acquired Fox

Not trying to criticize your post at all because I think you are on point... but I don't think this first premise is true at all

Years without foundational pieces means they were ok with going outside the norm, IMO. We will see.

For clarification, I am the same scott from Spurstalk, I was probably a prick there and I'm probably a prick here... but I don't use the handle "scott" anywhere else :st-lol:

We miss Mamu? What about trading for Karlo Matkovic? With not an single 2026 pick, the Pels will listen when offered a 2nd rounder. Or two.

I said their plan changed after getting the number 2 pick. Reading between the lines they were eyeing Durant or Giannis, then the ping pong dropped. Harper was theirs and they knew they didn't have to rush things.

He might be had for a 2nd round pick but it doubtful he would help much in the playoffs. Second year player with about 1,200 minutes played in his career which extrapolates to about 33 games played at 36MPG. He's basically rookie.

Plus he still has one year left on his deal before being a restricted free agent. I wouldn't trade him if I was the Pels. They should be able to retain him fairly easily as RFA.
 
I think there is zero percent chance of this happening... but...

Let's face it, that might be a decent idea. Steph would fit our timeline better than Fox, only in respect that it would be a max that would disappear about the time we all think we'll need to think of trading Fox anyway.

With that said, Fox is my guy. I'd rather we just use him correctly!
 
Interesting take about the timeline. That actually would fit. I kept think he'll retire, so why trade for him, and then you reminded us, that would be what the Spurs might want. With De'Aaron, though, if they do end up trading him, they're likely to get assets, and with Stephen, they're likely going to have to give them and up won't get anything once he retires. Do you think the Spurs would have to give up much else to get him in the way of draft picks? That's the bit that makes it not worth it.

One aspect I'd like by having him is, maybe he can actually help some of the young guys with their shooting. Not sure if Stephen ever tries to teach anyone any shooting techniques or give them tips, but if he does, it might be helpful.
 
If Harrison Bogans has to keep being a starter, let him continue that streak elsewhere.

Spurs get: anything
They get: him
 
If the Spurs stand pat and don't at least add a legitimate third C/PF with size they're committing malpractice tbh. They're embarrassingly bad at both positions behind Wemby/Kornet/Keldon.

Wouldn't even trade Castle for Murphy straight up tbh. We're all pissed at his recent play but it has more to do with Mitch's poor coaching imo. Him and Harper should remain off limits until next year's trade deadline at least.
 
I don’t really understand the premise that Steph just stays with a forever 10 seed until he’s too old to shoot 3’s anymore.

I mean I understand that this might be true and it’s what he wants. But it’s pitiful. He wants to be pitiful because he won titles there under a different setting? Go win a title as a secondary scorer who doesn’t get butt f’d by 18 defenders every play. Have some fun. Win games without Draymond. Do all the wonderful things.

…or hang a banner in your house that says “loyal” on it and see how much that is worth. It’s one thing where it’s a guy who changes teams because he doesn’t realize he’s washed up yet. Curry is still a lethal weapon. He’s not Hakeem or Ewing or whatever other weird old guy in the wrong jersey.

they need to atleast add another key vet that can call them out cuz mitch aint it and i dont think that player is on the team.

Yabusele is basically Olynyk on defense. I don't see how he gets minutes when everyone is healthy.
If this is actually happening, I hope we're trading Olynyk for a shooter or even a third string big.

Let's hope it's a bigger deal and we're just being the enablers since the Knicks are obviously trying to trade KAT.
