Trade Spurs Trade Ideas

Can Michael Porter Jr and Dayron Sharpe be had for a couple of FRPs, Barnes, Sochan and Olynyk. Risky but I think it sets the Spurs up for at least a couple of contending seasons.

Porter Jr would definitely be a bit of an overkill. He's gonna want max money and I don't think spurs are gonna wanna pay that money for him. No need for a ballhog like him to take away even more from Fox lol

if you want to add TM3 you add him and keep Vassell. That way you have 2 high level shotmakers on the wings. The problem is after a year and a half you'll have to trade one of them cause we'll be in the luxury tax by then. Then you spent 3 firsts all the way into 2031 while having to trade that caliber of player in 2028. Not a smart move. This is also why Lauri, JJJ, etc. moves don't work. We need somebody around 20 million on a longterm deal.

Pretty much spot on. The only way to keep TM3 and Devin long term is if Castle is going out and we don't have to pay his extension.

Getting ahead of myself here, but with the breakout year Peyton Watson is having, he's in for a pretty significant payday this offseason. Denver prob won't be able afford to re-sign him outright as they overpaid Christian Braun last Summer, and they're also likely going to try to bring back Tim Hardaway Jr., who's also having great year for them.

Cam Johnson may end up being the guy they have to salary dump in order to retain Watson (and maybe Hardaway Jr.). If I'm the Spurs, I'd be all over that tbh. Denver would likely try to trade him elsewhere as not to help out a conference opponent, but Cam would be a significant 3-&-D SF/PF hybrid replacement for Barnes in the lineup and would give us some much-need 3PT shooting. He'd also be in the last year of his deal so he could be flipped if it didn't work out for any reason. Just something to keep an eye on.

A move I can see Spurs doing is trading Sochan and/or Olynyk for a player whose contract expire in 2027.

Wembanayama extension start in 2027, Spurs will then have to be very careful with every $ spend. They won't be in a situation like this season where it's not a big deal to have Olynyk not playing and being paid $13.4M. In 2028, it will even more an issue with Castle getting his extension.

You have to wonder what impact these coming extensions will have on the kind of contracts Spurs will offer this summer at free agents. If Barnes value is $30M/3 years, will they go for it? If Hachimure value is $60M/4 years, will they make him an offer?

A plan that makes sense for Spurs is the following:
- 2026 trade deadline: Trading Sochan+Olynyk+second round picks for a forward who can shoot with a contract that expires in 2027.
- 2026 summer: Not making any significant free agents acquisition.
- Start of the 2026 season: Spurs will have Vassell, Champagnie, Johnson, the player they got at the trade deadline, Bryant and maybe the 2026 first round pick (Lendeborg, Haugh, Cenac...) at forwards spots.
- 2027 trade deadline: reevaluate the situation and do an aggressive trade if needed.

I looked at Portis' raw numbers and they looked fine but when I saw his advanced numbers ...they were terrible. Net negative on all ends of the floor.

Cam Spencer, Tari Eason, Jalen Tyson and Royce O'Neale are ungettable because they are valuable to their respective teams. Once Morant goes, Memphis will feature Spencer more. Eason is erratic on offense but is terrific as part of a two headed perimeter defense monster with Amen Thompson for the Rockets. Tyson has been more consistent than DeAndre Hunter which is the guy the Cavs will try to move (and / or Lonzo Ball). And the Suns want to be playoffs bound with O'Neale contributing.

Some worthwhile possibilities in high tax paying teams - Sam Hauser (Celtics), Moses Moody from Warriors as part of a Kuminga trade, Naji Marshall from Dallas (not a good 3p shooter but decent defender who hustles), Yabusele from the Knicks, Kyle Kuzma (inconsistent, frustrating player who seems to have a decent season from the bench this year from the Bucks)...

On another note, latest Game Theory Podcast they did a deep dive on the Pacers in the context of the trade deadline and it seems like IND would be smart to get off Jarace Walker money to set themselves up to bring in a quality C via trade (either now or this summer). Sochan for Walker straight up saves IND $8.5MM next season. He's up to 36% from 3 on the year after a slow start. He's not going to give us the rebounding we probably are all hoping for from the position, but maybe Corliss Williamson can instill some dog in him. He remains one of my top realistic, inexpensive targets.

That second to last sentence is what will make or break him. I usually say the concern is 'between his ears', but I don't mean it from a bbiq standpoint as much as it has to do with dogged will. I'm still very much in favor of this trade. The gamble is if we can ignite that fire in him. If he finds that he'll be a problem...

Watson would have been just great for Spurs but, sadly, he has been so good that he is now an unrealistic target.

For Cam Johnson, as you said, Denver won't trade him to Spurs. A scenario that might work is: Denver salary dumping to a team with cap space during the 2026 summer and then Spurs trading for Johnson with that team latter in the 2026-2027 season. It's quite unlikely but who knows...

Warriors would be looking for a player that can help them make a playoff run. They're not looking for what the Spurs have to trade them.

I just can't see them moving him in-season unless they get a good replacement that somehow also saves them lots of money. Given how they're playing with all the injuries I think they really like they're chances of winning it this yr if they can just get healthy enough.

I want to call the Mavs about PJ. He's having a brutal yr shooting because he needs a real PG, but he's on a great deal, he's a Top50 rebound, Top20 shot blocker, solid enough connector, switchable and fights on D, and capable of playing the 3 when needed. I'd love to get him for cheap, probably depends on Mavs views on Flagg as fulltime 3 or not. They don't have a lot of assets, maybe Michael Finley does us a solid. He could solve a lot of problems on the cheap.

Works straight up for Oly, or expand it to PJ + Martin for Oly + Sochan (which would take a 3rd team) to save them a bunch of money. Salary relief + a few good 2nds (or a protected first) might just get it done.

Bey has always been a streaky shooter, but he does have legit PF size. I don't think rebounding is the issue. There are games where we get killed on the glass, but in general we have the best defensive rebounding percentage in the NBA and are also a good offensive rebounding team. Shotmaking should be the #1 criteria. If we can get some size and rebounding with that, I'm all for it. I'm on the Jarace Walker train as well. As of right now, I would only include second round picks in offers, unless we are talking about bigger upgrades like Okongwu, Aldama, etc. where I would be willing to add ATL 27.

They’ll have lots of cap space LeBron’s $50M comes off the books end of this season, plus another $40M in expirings in Rui, Vincent and Kleber, plus Reaves still isn’t signed to a big deal which will happen this off season. This off season is going to be a big one for the Lakers to build around Luka and Reaves.

Watson would be a really good fit for them at the 3. Would be surprised if they didn’t go hard after him. Also be interested to see how high Denver is willing to go to match.

Good list, personally only interested in these 2. Hauser's got 3 yrs, 34M left which is fine value, but Celtics cap is fucked and they've got Tatum/Brown at the forwards so that should be a cheaper backup. Hauser for Sochan works in trade machine.
I've posted it previously in this thread, but would love Yabusele and he can't have much value, think him for Sochan could be fair straight up, but it doesn't work financially, but Yabusele + Hukiporti for Sochan and a 2nd could be a win-win.
