The second clear case of holding an asset too long. He’s another creator who just can’t or won’t play off the ball. His issues are with the egalitarian offense they run now. I think there might be a slightly larger market for him, offset by his gangsta shit.

Sounds to me like they would be willing to include him in an AD trade. He might be gettable after all in a 3 team deal if the Mavs don't want him.

That's referring to his fit as a C, they see him as a PF.

don't have fully formed opinions on either player, but Im slightly biased towards 6'11" Newell and his small sample size. 23 of 50 from 3.

Does Risacher defend opposing PFs well, or is his skillset aligned to that of a SF/Wing role? Lazily, I'm assuming the latter for now.

I haven't seen enough of Newell, but Risacher is the more valuable player right now, which doesn't mean Newell can't surpass him.
Risacher has the length to be a PF, we'll see if he gets strong enough.

Ja has 4 potential openings in the East in Miami, Brooklyn, Toronto, and Chicago. I’m not sure we can really get in on a deal with any of those teams.

But Memphis should’ve traded Ja after the second gun incident. His health was still good and his value was still high despite him being an idiot. Now the narrative is Ja is an oft injured, idiotic malcontent who only cares about himself and plays no defense. Hard to trade that player with his current narrative.

Charlotte's current FO makes an emphasis on character not unlike the Spurs, I don't think they touch Ja with a 10 ft pole and I bet they'd get rid of Lamelo if they could.

I'm skeptical about just about every team going for such a liability of Ja in terms of character, health, defense, lack of shooting. It's like layers upon layers of red flags. Never say never, but I'd be shocked if the Grizzlies can move him for ANY real value, let alone picks and young players like they're supposedly asking for.

Minnesota would be tough because of salary concerns, Sacramento supposedly is trying to move in a different direction and avoid no defense guards, Utah is a tough read because Ainge is a serial gambler but I don't think he makes much sense with their young core, likewise with Brooklyn and the fit with Jordi. Maybe Chicago is stupid enough and Miami thinks they have a solid enough structure that they take the gamble if the price is really low, but I doubt it. Memphis screwed up by waiting for too long, Ja has been escalating his bad ways for a long while, they should have taken a hint when he was still a hot commodity.

They can easily do the Randle+Conley or DiVincenzo, it's just that Grizzlies wouldn't want Randle and a third team would have to be included.

I'm working under the assumption they're unwilling to part with Ant, McDaniels, Gobert and Randle, probably DDV too. If they are then yes they can pull the trigger, but I think they're a far more dangerous playoff team with Randle than with Ja.

I've actually seen some speculation that CHA is limiting Ball's minutes ahead of a trade... playing him just enough to showcase him without playing him too much to risk injury.

To that end, since he came back from missing 3 games in early December, so 12 games total, he's only played more than 30 minutes once, and he has only more than 27 minutes 4 times.

Maybe he's on minutes restriction? I have no clue.

One low key trade target for the Spurs should be a Sochan for Pat Connaughton swap. Pat is a career 35% three point shooter with tons of playoff experience from his time with the Bucks. Hornets should be interested because Pat is 33 years old on a expiring contract so they might as well get something for him. A three team might be ideal since the Hornets wouldn't have much interest in Socahn with TJ Saluon already on the roster.

I don't understand why anyone would be interested in Morant, the most toxic player in the league. Constant on and off court issues, poor durability and multi season sample size of him not getting to or finishing at the rim at the same rates, while going from a bad to non shooter and still being a terrible defender.

Out of Young, Ball, Williamson and him, he's by far the least desirable.

I think Miami has a huge interest in Ja. They've been desperate to land a star for a while. Would be funny though, because they run the same non-pick and roll offense the Grizzlies do and that's the main reason Ja was clashing with the coach
