Here's an idea.

Spurs Send:
Jeremy Sochan ($7.1M expiring)
2026 Utah SRP (projected 31-34)
Warriors Receive:
Moses Moody ($11.6M → $12.5M → $13M through 2027-28)

Warriors get a decent tax relief (projected to pay $81 million this season in repeater tax) and the possibility of getting Sochan to play like a Donkeymond Green backup plus we add a sweetener in the high SRP.

Moody is what he is - a good defensive minded wing with good shooting and will be a fit with the Wemby-Fox-Castle-Harper core. Plus he is insurance in case the Spurs aren't able to re-sign Barnes for a decent contract or if Champs leaves in 2027 because of a great contract elsewhere (he will deserve it).

The only hitch is that we lose a backup C option ..but in any case we need to get rid of Biyombo for a more useful third string C..which could be Bassey or Micah Potter or maybe even the corpse of Brook Lopez when he gets cut from the Clippers inevitably.

The main trade is Moody for Sochan though.

I think some folks are struggling with the inevitability of moving someone like Dev...

When he's playing poorly (like last season), everyone wants to move him... of course everyone else also knows he is playing poorly so his value is in the tank.

When he's playing well (like this season), his value is up but now all of a sudden no one wants to trade him.

I was one of the first on the TM3 Train, but I don't think that's a move that makes sense any longer. Vassell is fine for now and his contract isn't creating any problems yet. There is no need to move him for a similar (perhaps slightly better) player on a similar contract. We don't need to upgrade Vassell's role right now. If he gets moved now, it should be for someone who is a clear better fit for what we lack (a true 3&D wing. which Dev is doing a good job impersonating, or PF). If that doesn't happen, it will be okay... but eventually we'll need to turn Devin's $27MM into two roster spots instead of just one. Dev's just a victim of the rest of the roster developing around him and money needing to go to those higher level players.

Thanks for the charts. I always saw TM3 as the potential upgrade to the Barnes position (SF/PF), not to Vassell’s position.

I don't see Murphy as a starting PF. He can play some small as one, but not as a constant.

In a vacuum, he'd be better to have than Vassell, but I wouldn't pay what he'll likely command in terms of assets for anything but a long term starting PF.

Whoever said this had is a smart point re the gap between the DV and TM3 players. I’d also like to understand TM3’s defensive numbers— have been reading elsewhere that he is highly overrated in that area?

Some of you guys love to hate our players. It’s like a lifestyle to some of you. This sense of urgency to sell now is mythical.

The stupidity is peaking at DR being better than Vassell with the logic of using 10 million as some kind of supporting evidence alongside under the radar consistency.

I don’t in any way want to dismiss the notion that financial decisions will need to be made but to move a guy having a great season now simply because we might have tough contract problems later is just not a good argument.

There are people who aren’t as interested in co-signing other people’s happy thoughts even if the agree because they find that to be boring. And some people also speak clinically and critically. You shouldn’t be so quick to conflate that with “hate”. There’s no one on this team that wouldn’t be welcomed as a permanent spur if their play warranted it. IDK what I said to be mentioned in this conversation, but for the record I wouldn't make any significant moves this year unless something crazy falls into our laps.

Dev needs out at the end of his deal because we’ll have a lot of money that needs spent on other guys. This is a basic point about cap management that many have made, you include. the other guy believes you can only make that point if you aren’t mean about it.

He doesn’t need traded this year. My comparison with Robinson was more of a thought exercise. But eventually he has to go. You can realize that and also root for him while he’s here. I guess some people think the hypotheticals are in bad taste or something.

endlessly tinkering is a good way to operate in a lot of areas. Some of us have jobs that demand it so it becomes a habit. It means nothing other than having a busy brain.

I just don't know why GSW would trade Moody at this point, unless we're picking him up as part of a bigger deal where they are adding an upgrade for Curry's final run. I don't think they're doing Moody for Sochan just so they can get an SRP. He's a pretty core part of their rotation (25mpg) and they are trying to make the playoffs. I don't think the tax matters to them as much as getting playoff home games with Curry while they still can.

If Golden State wants to dump salary, the easy path is to move Kuminga for lesser expirings plus assets, say Kuminga to Brooklyn for Highsmith / Cam Thomas + minor filler, they can save up to 15 million this year and 22.5 next without giving up a playoff contributor and still get assets on top. That's IMO the more likely scenario.

Thing is that when we’re fully healthy I don’t see either of those guys playing. Sochan might get 10 minutes but Waters won’t play much if at all when Castle returns.

That doesn’t mean Robinson is better but this is the classic friendship crew “waiting for apologies” reddit point where you pick one game and act like its every game. I'd guess that if the Spurs are in the top 6 spots as the trade deadline emerges, they might do a small move to add veteran depth at the forward/center positions, barring major injuries. The goals this year are to have a winning record and get playoff experience. We are on track so far. Hopefully, we get to see Wemby/Fox/Castle/Harper play 15 - 20 games together before the deadline. The real re-tooling will happen in the summer after the dust settles on the season.

It is fun to speculate and come up with trade scenarios, though.

I think that it’s better to look at a 3 year time period over a 3 week time period with this sort of thing. Devin’s athleticism sets him apart from guys like Robinson on D. But only if he uses it correctly. Which he has been lately. But he’s not known for keeping his shit together.

Drew Timme. Ex Gonzaga. Lit it up very well in the G League. Got traded from Brooklyn to LA. They stashed him for a while.
Very good team player, rebounder. Passing for a big is outstanding.
Damn i hope he doesn't pan out for the Riggers.
I think he could very well be a Bassey type hound dog.

Is working dilligently on his treys. Has upped it from very crusty 25% to 34%.

Good call out. Timme was a guy I liked in his draft class as a second round prospect, he ended up going undrafted. Just one of those older guys who dominate at the college level and never get considered for the NBA, but end up managing to carve out a career as a bench contributor (kind of like our old friend, Drew Eubanks, now in his 8th NBA season).
