Trade Spurs Trade Ideas

you are basically getting Giannis for the same price as Fox, who was not acquired at market value either

and then Bucks also give away Ryan Rollins? a resetting team isn't also going to trade away their best young player

no offense but i dont think the proposal is remotely close
It may not be, but would Milwaukee rather deal straight with Miami and just take wiggins? That's certainly possible..

Don't see the Spurs making a splash for Giannis. One, the Spurs don't have much to offer outside of Castle. The Hawks picks have rapidly diminished in value so not sure what the Spurs can offer. The bucks will want Harper too and no way the Spurs give up both him and Castle.

Two, Giannis doesn't fit well next to Wemby and takes up more space in the paint when the Spurs are probably better off with Fox + 3 shooters + Wemby. Getting rid of Castle kind of clears up space but the Spurs would have to give up Vassell for salary, which destroys spacing.
they have Sacramento's picks and Minnesota's picks.

also Giannis doesnt fit!!?? HUH!?!?!?

Was thinking about this and the Bucks may like the idea of getting Trae (and having him opt in) if they can then flip him for a little more next year. Jalen Johnson of course would be even better (and provide the flexibility to keep or flip) but surely ATL wants to keep JJ and they'd have to then add in another piece like Tingus who they'd want to keep. Trae helps them match salary a lot easier.

I think this all comes down to whether Giannis is cool with ATL.

LOL @ our Hawks picks
Giannis and JJ with Okongwu as the third big is the best big man rotation in the NBA and they all fit together perfectly.

Daniels
Kennard
NAW
Jalen Johnson
Giannis
Okongwu off the bench

They can score and defend with anyone. The Hawks golden tickets turn to ash.

LOL @ our Hawks picks
Easy to say in hindsight, but we could've probably traded '27 ATL for Fox instead of '27 SAS and '31 MIN, could've had an extra pick right now.
Oh well, can't win them all.

We do not have "Sacramento's picks" or "Minnesota's picks"

We have a single swap with MIN (Top 1 protected) in 2030 and a single swap with SAC (unprotected) in 2031.

We also have SAC's SRP in 2031... so there is that I guess.

Not sure why people would like the Spurs are a good player in this. As others have pointed out, Hawks, Rockets and OKC all can put in way better deals than us, NYK, Raptors, and Cleveland are probably better fits than us.

The Spurs really good young assets now are Castle and Harper, even that Mavs unprotected pick is a maybe as the mavs are really a PG away from being a decent team (which they may have already found, and Kyrie is coming back next year). The Hawks and our own picks are meh, Fox is likely too old and not an enticing enough asset to be the main thing for a deal for Giannis (plus there is no way the Spurs will trade him due to optics).

I don't really see how Giannis will fit into our offence, but Mitch can make it work, I suppose.

No. Don't need him raising his voice against this coaching staff, which is a huge reason why they unceremoniously let him go.

He can go play ping pong.
We're in the homestretch of a playoff push... making a run for a top 4 seed... the BB thread on "Why is Chris Paul starting and playing 30 mpg" has reached 468 pages.

While I consider Giannis sgnificantly more valuable in AD in a trade, if I'm genuinely interested Giannis, I'm gonna price check AD and see if I can get Dallas to join the circus before negotiating.

A great news after 21 games played is that a lot of players have stepped up and Spurs don't really need to fix their roster.

Spurs have a nice 9 players rotation (Fox,Castle, Vassell, Barnes, Wembanyama, Harper, Johnson, Champagnie and Kornet). Spurs don't have anymore in their rotation that 1 or 2 players that is regularly hurting them. After these 9 players, Bryant is now looking like a good prospect who deserves to be first in line for the remaining playing time.

Spurs don't need to be aggressive in the trade market. Doing nothing and letting the team grow is a legit path for them.

Atlanta makes some sense for Giannis and they could very well reach the Finals with him. That would suck for our pick, but, I'd rather see him there than here.

He doesn’t fit. No matter how much they try to make it sound like he would. The whole team would need to revolve around him.

We just spent like 3-4 years building up a squad. Which now finally. Finally. Looks like a real team with real chemistry.

To trade a potential future 12 year backcourt for a guy who has maybe 3 years left is crazy.

It’s like we’d be giving up everything they worked for just because he’s Giannis.

I hate it.

Absolutely hate the idea of this guy on our team.

How do we see what happened to the Clips and blow up our future backcourt for this guy?

Same scenario here.

Wemby
Castle
Harper

Off limits.

Fox

Off limits due to maintaining our reputation for treating players with respect and being accountable for our promises. At least a year into the contract we gave him.

Anything outside that is fair game but even then I don’t really want him and they wouldn’t move him without a core player in return. So it’s a moot point.

lol, I'mma hurt you.

If Im Spurs I am not trading Castle or Harper for Giannis. It’s fair to want to do it and it’s likely what it would take, but Im not doing it. If Giannis happens to hard force his way here? Then maybe SA can pull off a deal with no Castle or Harper, but thats the only way.

I also think Spurs could look at OG if NY is involved in Giannis deal. If it’s matching salaries + 2 firsts? Think it could be worth it. Something like Barnes, Kelly and Sochan + ATL swap + ATL first (and maybe another swap or first).

That's where im at as well. I'd prefer to be involved as a 3rd team in some deal over directly being the team after Giannis

Agree. OG is a player I would like to keep an eye on if NY is indeed the team MIL ends up dealing with. MIL likely doesnt want OG, but OG could definitely help Spurs.

Trading Harper for Giannis has PG13 vibes for sure…

People will say “PG13 is not Giannis” but OKC traded PG13 coming off a season where he finished 3rd in MVP voting and 3rd in DPOY voting. PG13 doesn’t have the career legacy of Giannis… but PG at 28 was just as good, if not better, as Giannis at 31.

He'd help, but i haven't looked at the longer term salary implications. For me, I'd even be fine with a smaller piece like Kennard and Vit if Atlanta wins the sweepstakes. It doesn't solve everything, but it does help our shooting from deep.

It'll get fun putting together these side trades once we get an idea of where Giannis wants to be.
