Trade Spurs Trade Ideas

If the Bucks blow it up Bobby Portis would make some sense but his defensive metrics have fallen off the face of the earth so far this season so its probably a pass.

I still like the idea of Sochan for Kyle Anderson at the deadline. KA just turned 32 years old and is on a very modest two year deal. Prefect fit at as a backup PF.

Sochan/Olynyk/Bismack plus the Utah second rounder works for our old friend John Collins.

If there is a worse shooter than Sochan in the NBA today...it must be Kyle Anderson. Sochan has a hitch but Anderson has the yips. He has yet to shopt a three this season on par with Ben Simmons who hasn't played a game and is out of the league. Slowmo's advanced stats show that he has fallen off a cliff and is still rolling down. Bad idea.

If the Spurs are desperate for a low usage ..good shooting and good defensive PF to replace Sochan..they could target someone like Josh Minott from the Celtics. I think.

Not a post on who to get but the Spurs, I think made a mistake in not retaining Mamu on a relatively decent deal. The dude is cooking in Toronto as a backup to another former Spur in Poeltl. I thought he was adequate in limited minutes for the Spurs last year and a great shooter to boot ..so letting him go was a mistake in hindsight.
I too loved Mamu and wonder if this was a situation where the Spurs wanted to let him pursue more than a 3rd string role (which he would be here).

His advanced stats are still decent but yeah his lack of three point shooting is very alarming.

Minott's having a breakout season of sorts with Boston and I am sure the Celtics would love to extend him in the off season. Good target but Boston wont trade him barring an overpay.

Olynyk does everything Mamu does.

Both are horrible defensively, Olynk is a bit better defensive rebounder, Mamu is a bit better on the other side because he's more mobile.
Mamu is also a way more willing shooter and can actually attack slow bigs off the dribble.

Difference between them is marginal, tbh. Neither plays when we don't have injury issues.

Exactly. Trading for Lunch Lady was pretty much a push for letting Mamu walk. There wouldn’t be room for both.

Instead of Biyombo if the Spurs had retained Mamu..it wouldn't have wasted a spot (the salary difference between Mamu and Biyombo is barely 200k) Also..Mamu fitted well with Wemby as a stretch 4/5. And he has had a much more impactful season for the Raps than Olynyk so far.

Mamu and Olynyk are redundant. Olynyk has barely started playing.

Jackie Butler was a young center that Larry Brown convinced Pop was the next big thing.

He sucked.
Yeah some payback for Pop turning Brown onto Raja Bell who became a premier defender in the league.

Considering the Spurs already had Mamu..one could argue that Olynyk was redundant. In hindsight though...the Spurs could have used another 3p shooter and Mamu showed potential ..now being utilised better in Toronto.

We also traded for Kelly AFTER Mamu signed with TOR... it's not like we didn't resign Mamu because we already had Lunch Lady.

I think it was a case where likely the Spurs couldn't offer an increased role to Mamu, who had graduated from 3rd stringer

Almost time to level up Champ's contract. I think he's genuinely taken the leap, and his game and confidence seem to be feeding one another. Maybe lock him up for a Sam Hauser type deal (4/50). We know better than anybody how important role players like Champ are.

If the Clips remain out of PO contention by the deadline, would there be a chance to trade for Batum? Sochan for Nic? Clips save a year of Nic's contract, Spurs get a nice 3&D player fofr the bench.

Nic’s wife would not be happy. She told him NY/LA/ or back to France.

Yeah, i read about that. She didn't even want any part of Philly. Folks tend to forget about these dynamics in players' moves. .A french fashionista isn't gonna settle for Memphis/Charlotte unless the hubby is getting the supermax :st-lol:

Batum turns 37 in a month and looks washed, there was a time where he´d have been a welcome addition but he chose to play in LA, now Spurs need to focus on players who can help them in the next 3, 4, 5 years.

Batum's 2nd year is a club option, so it wouldn't really be saving the Clips anything. This is aside from Batum looking pretty washed.

Also, I think with Mamu there's a possibility of a late peak a la Luke Kornet, whereas Olynyk at almost 35 is, at best, going to plateau and at worst will drop off.

Batum is absolutely washed. Not quite Brook Lopez, CP3 washed, but not far off.

Clippers should make a point to go out and acquired all the league’s most washed guys. How do we get PG13 back to LAC?

I wonder if they are going to put harden and nephew on the market. I'm not even sure what they'd bring

Harden has actually been really good this year… maybe someone like MIA to try to make a run in the east?
