Trade Spurs Trade Ideas

Was also firmly in the trade Dev camp (still have some stock there tbh), but he and Keldon have been great this season. The way they’ve accepted their roles, especially Dev, is commendable.

I do wonder what opportunities this summer will bring, including what vets may want to come to SA now.

Is Jay Huff a free agent candidate for our third C?
No he's not and he's really to good to be a 3rd string guy anyway. There are several different ways we can address that position. My two preferred are a 2nd rd pick or an older vet that isn't washed but can only play spot minutes at his peak.

I always thought KD is one of the most overrated players in NBA history (top two for me, and probably most overrated depending what time of day you asked me). Those two finals MVP should have been Curry's given how the defence was played, especially the first one. He burned bridges with every single org he played with, he played with multiple high level players in their primes and the only titles he got were from joining a team that would've won the titles without him anyways.

Vassell wasn't bad, he just didn't know his role (or was there even one defined?). Still overpaid, but he is fitting in the role perfectly, so I am extremely happy.

Come to think of it, I am not sure if the Spurs were just tanking the last two years by running nonsensical plays on purpose. The offensive and defensive schemes were brutal the last two years. Things seem to fall in place this year but that's after the all-star break. Was P/MATFO just experimenting with different things, almost running scrimmage to see which player can do what? Were they tanking? Or was Pop just so out of it that he would run these sets that even a run-of-the-mill couch general BLBer like us can tell is wrong and it took Mitch having full control to put in his sets?

I thought the Spurs could be a 45-win team last year, but after what went down, I thought we can't even clear 40-win this year. So wrong ... so wrong.

This thread started with me suggesting we trade Devin for Middleton and some SRPs :st-lol:

What a fucking idiot OP is

But I’m mostly bumping this just to say thank fucking god we didn’t trade for KD
I thought it was warranted at the time, but yes, he's done enough to the point his contract is no longer an issue and indispensable in the current scheme and roster makeup. As for Durant, he's as toxic of the court as he's awesome on. I never wouldn't have thought I'd say this, but I'm glad the Spurs never lift a finger. He's the rotten apple you need to keep off the fresh bunch.

I know I got some disgusting should have traded for KD comments in that thread. They had to surgically detach his balls from my mouth tbh.

I mean lets be honest here the defense was so shit for years because Pop wasn't a good coach anymore. I think even us anti-sniffers underestimated just how much damage he was doing to this team on the sidelines.

I am definitely a sniffer, I will never bad mouth Pop for what he did for the Spurs. That said, a few months into last season even I had to relent the sets were brutal.

Yeah Pop is an all time great coach but the game eventually passes everyone by. There is no profession in the world in which the best and most talented people doing it are in their 70's...

What really did Pop in was the "we don't care about 3 point percentage anymore" offense of todays nba. So much of Pops defensive strategy was to defend the 3 point line hard for the first 9 attempts and if the other team was 2 for 9 they probably only shoot maybe 5 or 6 more 3's the whole game. After that flew out the window and teams just relentlessly shot 3's no matter what he could never quite figure it out. He was also trying to figure it out with the Demar Derozan's and Bryn Forbes of the world to, which was never going to happen.

Since we are admitting to be crow-eaters, here's my confession. How wrong was I in thinking that the Spurs should trade Keldon. And how he has metamorphosed into the soul of the Spurs team, a favorite of his teammates and has also upped his game into an efficient scorer and a hustling defender. It is no wonder that FOs have folks who are far more patient and discerning than even the most committed of fans.

Every team should want a Keldon on their bench. Not only is he efficient and willing to come off the bench in a 6th man role but he's also heavily involved in the boxing community and discipline is numero uno when it comes to boxing which translates to his on-court hustle.

Yup Devin and Keldon really settled to their respective roles admirably. It’s how it was during the Championship Years with Spurs picks. “Winning” becomes infectious to everybody’s work habit. I always think that NBA players were all “winners” from their respective high schools and colleges. It just becomes a whole lot more competitive once they get to the NBA. And if they’re not in the right program, they stopped developing and eventually overtaken by better talents. And finally Spurs got back to the right path of winning, after nephews’ mutiny that caused that downward spiral, the Spurs got caught it seemed impossible to recover. But they kept doing what is right, not cutting corners. Easily they could’ve traded for KD, and yet would’ve been a cancer in the locker room, and stunned everybody’s growth. What I’ve learned from being a Spurs fan for over 35 years, the Spurs are patient, methodical and will not cut corners. It will keep pounding that rock, until that final blow that will finally break. It’s really nice to be back 😎
Nephew’s mutiny 😆 Love that.
