Trade Spurs Trade Ideas

Even the most strident Sochan hater (who is also not an idiot nor troll) can see a Sochan for Yabu swap straight up is moronic. Save that piece to combo trade with Kelly and a pick for something better.
I felt as though you could have been directly speaking to me with this post... and... yes, you are correct. I'd rather just keep Sochan at that point than add an extra year of Yaba Daba Doo Doo

I don’t love Hunter per se, but I do wonder how much it’s worth to CLE to shave that salary for another year given their tax situation. He could also be a potential Barnes replacement for a year as they continue to see what they have in Bryant ahead of the critical Year 3 jump.

I don't love Hunter, but I don't necessarily hate it either. For me, it would depend on what else is on the table out there. If it only costs Olynyk/ Sochan it's better than nothing..

I wonder what NO is gonna do with Zion after this year. It's obvious they're building without him in mind long term, otherwise this roster makes zero sense around him.
I wonder what his market is

A little bit of knee jerk, but I think we may need some two big lineups in the playoffs and our 3rd C option with some potential rebounding and rim protection upside.

Missi and Looney for Sochan, Bismarck and our best 2nd rounder in this draft.

Does NO say no? They would relieve themselves of 1.5 yrs of Looneys 8M salary.

NO aren't trading with the Spurs after they just bitch slapped us on our own home court. Why would they want any of the Spurs' players? they can try and trade with other teams first if they're trying to shed salary.

Barnes is cooked, might as well see if Brookyln will bite on Sochan + first + Barnes + Olynyk for a year and a half rental of MPJ. Not sure how far I'm willing to go on the first. Definitely not 2030 nor 20131 since those have juicy swaps.

If its 2027 I'm down with it..

I would be too, but RC_Drunkford I think keeps saying the Spurs have a strict no podcast policy, so I'm guessing that means they won't ever trade for someone that has a podcast, which is another stupid rule if you ask me.

yeah Mike Finger said that on the Spurs Insider podcast a while back

So, you want players spending countless hours during the season creating, editing, and producing content?

If you’re looking for a stupid rule, look no further than the Yankees no facial hair rule. That’s fucking arbitrary.

As if they don't have the producers and video editors.
We have Devin on the record saying you won't believe how much free time NBA players have.

I think the podcast rule is more about the Spurs not wanting anything franchise related being talked about in the public.

Devin’s been on IR for a month, so that may skew perception.

Nope. I didn't write out what I wanted to because I couldn't be bothered.

I would still let them do their podcast, but I'd tell them they have to do it mostly during the off-season. I'd also tell them they can do some in the regular season (like early in the season with stretches of home games), but not after Jan./Feb. onward and definitely not during the playoffs. I'd have some rules, but I wouldn't say "no" outright.

And seriously, NBA players have enough money to get someone else to do the editing all that other stuff for them. The player would just have to show up, do the podcast for a few hours and leave go back to basketball related stuff. NBA players have more free time than most people. Still plenty of time to get rest and work on their games. I absolutely do not think it's a time thing. It'd just be that I want them focused on basketball and winning. That's why I wouldn't want them doing it after Feb.

Random thought but if it comes down to the Spurs adding a third C or an end of bench shooter I'll take the shooter. End of bench shooter can swing a playoff series like Kerr in 03 and Neal in 13 (almost). Cant think of a third string C swinging a playoff series. Third string centers are more useful over the course of 82 game season but in the playoffs the end of the rotation shooter can be way more pivotal.

Top need is still a starting PF.

I'd go for the shooter myself. I mean, we need all those things, but I guess I'd personally want the shooter because this team is so poor at shooting the ball. How many guys are there that can come in cold and shoot the ball like Kerr and Neal.

Man, I wish 2013 didn't play out the way it did with Neal. I felt supremely confident when he came out there and shot the ball. He may not have been too good in other areas (namely defense), but he was a lethal shooter when he was on. I felt like he was a guy (like Kerr) that could really hit open shots when left open. You got good/great shooters than can hit contested shots and Neal wasn't better than any of those guys shooting when contested, but as far as an open shot went, I felt he was most dangerous in those situations (where he could can them shots at a high percentage). The other team would have to account for him and couldn't really leave him open. I thought he also worked well on the Spurs because not many other teams had Tim Duncan (or a low post player anywhere that level) who could get Neal those open looks.

That's why I really liked Steve Kerr on the team and was happy the Spurs got him back in 2002/2003. He wasn't someone you could give a big role to as he couldn't play great defense (he did try), wasn't the fastest guy, and just wasn't athletic at all, but I don't think the Spurs knew his true value the first time around. Any time Kerr had an open three, I trusted him to shoot over 50% in those situations - he was that lethal when given an open shot. It's great having a shooter that can actually hit wide open shots at a very high percentage. When you have a low post player like Tim, that was very important to have player/s that could do that.

The lack of three point shooting is a little worrying. Gives me flash backs to the 08 Spurs. Couldn't make buckets against the Lakers in the second half of games. Pack the paint and let the Spurs shooters fire away from long range.

I don't buy the Lauri talk at this point. Trading for him the summer would be much more difficult because the Olynyk/Barnes/Sochan contracts are off the book as matching deals. That guy is making stuff up.

Yeah doing a deal in the off-season makes way less sense than one at the deadline

Tbh I am not opposed to trading for Lauri. Solves two big issues for us. Health and contract are obviously a concern
