Trade Spurs Trade Ideas

i mean he was always going to get an extension. trading for him 1 season earlier didnt suddenly mean he was going to agree to continue playing at 24mil per year or whatever he was getting at the time. if you were willing to deal for him then, you should be willing to do so now. the difference is with his bigger contract its harder to make the money work, but the spurs are equipped with contracts to get it done if they wanted to
We didn’t have Fox, or two additional top 4 picks so, no. Some of those contracts will just roll off. They’ll need to.

yeah to be clear i dont think a Lauri deal makes sense right now either, as much as i like the player and the fit. the only scenario it makes sense is if the spurs are overachieving and truly believe that the trade gets them squarely in the title hunt, but i dont see that happening

I agree with this premise. If you were willing to trade for him before his extension, you should be willing to trade for him after (since you were going to have to give him that exact extension, just like we did with Fox).

The key variable of course, is that we acquired Fox in the meantime. If we didn't do that deal, I feel pretty strongly that we'd have spent all summer taking Lauri and TMIII threads to 100 pages. Alas, we got Fox instead (a decision I'm quite happy with).

It's a bummer that ping pong balls didn't bounce slightly differently and land us Flagg instead of Harper because the fit would have been perfect... maybe too perfect for the Basketball Gods to allow. Obviously happy with Harper, but man we were so close to having a perfect lineup literally fall into our laps with lotto luck and an all-star demanding to come here.

Kelon's two remaining years dosn't hurt the Spurs balance sheet the way Vassell's four remaining do so dumping him isn't a priority. His trade value has already tanked to zero anyways so no rush to get off him. But Vassell's trade value hasn't bottomed out yet so might be able to still get off him without having to give up firsts. One big reason I was wishing hard to pry John Collins out of Utah with that contract. Get a positive value player who fits the roster's needs while dumping a guy owed long term money who is pretty useless with Castle and Harper here.
Keldon also can be quite useful when he is shooting the ball straight and can provide a poor man's Vinnie Johnson's instant offense. I like him in that role and as said, his salary really isnt that cumbersome at this point. Plus Keldon seemingly has accepted this type of role.

I'd want to move Devin 7 days out of 7 before Keldon at this point.

Jared Vanderbilt and an unprotected FRP for Wemby. We know he's a future Laker anyway, so you farmers might as well get something of value for him.

I thought your ass would be in some black site in Ugandur by now. Fuck are you doing here Alejandro?

As much as I love Flagg, Harper is probably the best guard prospect this team has had since buying Ice's contract from Virginia so I can't be the slightest bit disappointed.

Vassell isn't the odd man out. Unless Harper or Castle become plus shooters. The long term problem is one of our three guards will need to be moved on.

Vassell isn't a plus shooter either and doesn't offer the defense of Castle nor the creation of Harper. The tank core needs to be purged as more talented players are brought in. If Vassell was a high end shooter you could overlook the defensive weakness and trouble putting the ball on the floor but he's not. He's a roughly league average shooter. So the best part of his game is mid and the rest is pretty trash.

What would you have given up to swap with Mavs?

I would have done #14, and another future pick. Mavs would definitely say no. Ultimately I'm still happy with Harper so I wouldn't "give up the farm", but we were close to the stone cold nuts ideal situation. Harper is more than a worthy consolation prize though.

The thing I'm more intrigued about is that the Mavs extended both PJ Washington and Gafford, we'll see who eventually gets traded because that roster is not balanced at all and someone will be unhappy with the lack of minutes they'll be getting.

Stephon Castle is in the 21st to 40th percentile for NBA wing shooting efficiency—well below average compared to peers and much worse than Devin Vassell, who ranks in the 82nd to 88th percentile.

As much as I don't like Vassell's game or his contract, he can be useful if he can stay on the floor and hit some 3s. I'd much prefer the Spurs find a way to dump KJ and Sochan. Just complete dead weights on this team, imho.

Easy now. This might instigate a war with the nation of Argentina.

Honestly between KJ, Sochan and Vassell, I’d personally keep KJ. He’d probably be the most affordable of the 3 but he plays with more heart than almost anyone on the team. And energy like that is contagious. Reminds me of Malik Rose. He had so many flaws but that energy was vital so many times in the playoffs.
