Trade Spurs Trade Ideas

The New York Knicks proposed a trade package of Guerschon Yabusele and Pacome Dadiet to the San Antonio Spurs in exchange for Jeremy Sochan.

The Spurs declined, unwilling to take on Yabusele’s $5.8M player option for next season.

— per Mike Scotto

Guys, why would they decline??

He seems like a prime candidate for someone I'd go Bobby Portis on if I was on the same team as him. I don't know the guy's personality, but he seems to rub people the wrong way.

I'd still like to get Portis if the Spurs can workout a deal. I have a feeling the teammate he punched on the Bulls was probably an asshole. Shouldn't have done it, but I don't think people know the circumstances. The guy might have been a right prick and deserved it.

There’s not really any great or rational reason to punch a teammate.

the spurs sent signals that they’re not wanting to take back any salary in trades. Given this, is there really any expectation that they’ll get anyone rotation piece by the deadline?

What was weird his teammates were not mad at him like everyone still liked bobby and hated the guy that got punched it was very very weird. That was nine years ago so their is that and Nikola may have been the aggressor.

Who knows but I heard before on a pod cast that Portis is while liked in the looker rooms on the teams he has been on take it for what it is but thats what has been put out there over the years.

The only signal they've sent, at least that I can recall, is that they're not willing to take back Yabu's salary specifically. I don't think we should extrapolate that to mean they're unwilling to take back any salary.

Assuming the Spurs decline Sochan's option, they'll ender the summer of 2027 with about $13.3MM of Cap Space. Not really enough to do anything of significance with. They don't need that space to decline-and-extend Julian, because we'll have his full bird rights as the conclusion of this season. So, the Spurs best bet might be to use the expiring salary of Sochan and Olynyk to bring back salary for the roster next year. It would be helpful to do the same with Barnes, though he's obviously a part of the rotation and I'm betting the Spurs would likely want to re-sign him to be a veteran presence on the bench (the merits of this can be debated separately).

Long story short... there isn't much reason to preserve cap space, unless we're going to do something like send out Vassell for expiring money, in which case we'll then be able to be a player in Free Agency (but like... will we really?)

The NBA is overwhelmingly black, and the guy he punched was a white Euro. Who do you think they’re siding with?

Maybe the guy who deserved to do the punching?

Ex seems to think that because he defines Portis's career off one action that his teammates must do so too. If Bobby were a bad character, it would be showing now. He's in a completely different locker room now and no longer in a position where guys would feel the need to "side" with him or against him about an action that occurred before most of them were even in the league.

Bey is doing pretty well this season and he is on a cheap contract. That in itself makes him worth taking a 2nd look at. I'm sure the Pels are looking for a sell high offer from some team.
Bey's also under contract next season for only $6.4MM

Even if he's just a 1.5 year rental, I think there is a strong chance a desperate GM forks up at least 1 late FRP. As I also just posted in another thread, Bey has been one of the league's most efficient scorers relative to USG this season. I think we missed our chance to land that fish.
