Why the did we downgrade from 2002-2017 logo? Minimalism sucks, always does.. And even the new one was a half-assed attempt at it

eh, i dont really mind the new one at all. its basically just losing the borders but the essence is unchanged. some other logos completely lost their identity though, like the raptors, sixers, warriors, wolves,

I believe there is a rule that team logos are now required to feature a basketball (22 of 30 NBA teams currently do) but there a handful of "grandfathered" teams (the Spurs obviously included). I wonder if this grandfathering is only effective until such time a team unveils a new logo... in which case, maybe the Spurs will decide to just stay with this one forever (they did have the SATX alternative logo, which did feature a basketball, but it appears that has rightfully thrown away)
