Spurs at the Halfway Mark: What’s Your Take on the Season So Far?

I don't see how, at the midpoint of the season, it's not considered a 5. Despite all of the injuries, Wemby's minutes restriction, a terrible cold streak from the 3 point line, the Spurs have the 2nd best record in the West. At the beginning of the season, the Spurs were projected to win 40.1 wins according to ESPN, with the over/under set at 44/5. Right now, they're on pace to win 50+ games. We all pretty much thought that at the very least the Spurs should be a play-in team that ultimately makes the playoffs with some going as far as saying that they should be a top 6 team. Right now, they're top 2. Sure, there's room for improvement, but the same could be said for every team in the league.

We'll eventually get over the hump with these teams, it just takes some time. I expect us to handle GSW easily the next two matchups we have with them this season. PHX and MIN are tbd... there are some mitigating factors that explain the losses against them, but at the same time they are very difficult matchups for us and they've had a good gameplan.

On the flip side, OKC is likely to adapt to the "hump" we present them. It's not a rivalry if one team wins all the time. This team has shown a certain resilience and ability to quickly learn and grow. I'm looking forward to seeing how this second half of the season and playoffs play out. I do hope our FO is willing to make some minor moves around the margins though.

I don't think we necessarily need a PF in the traditional sense, but another Barnes-like character (Hauser, for example) could be quite useful to mitigate Barnes' streakiness.

I agree 100%. Having players who you can swap for shooting if the other is cold is big.

It's an absolute 5 with Wemby and Steph taking big jumps this season and Dylan looking like a natural PG, plus Devin and Keldon having huge bounce back seasons. I was anticipating a 50 win season so can't be anything other than thrilled at a 56 win pace, especially given all the injuries this team has had to fight through. And also seeing the three PGs being the kind of matchup nightmare for OKC I was envisioning in the summer.
