De'Aaron Fox+2.3 (88)+2.3 (91) / 0 (54)
Stephon Castle+2.6 (90)+0.3 (69) / +2.3 (97)
Julian Champagnie+0.3 (66)+0.3 (68) / 0 (53)
Harrison Barnes+1.3 (79)+1.4 (84) / -0.1 (47)
Devin Vassell+0.2 (65)+0.1 (66) / +0.1 (57)

Dylan Harper-0.1 (61)0 (65) / -0.1 (50)

Some thoughts:
- Castle's year two leap is real. Now tied for highest EPM in his draft class. He has an outside argument for all-defense so far. If his jumper ever comes along, we're looking at a +3.5-4 player, which puts in him solid all star status and top 5% by impact
- It's weird to see that Keldon's defensive impact is higher than his offensive impact considering he's shooting almost 70% on 2P and taking minimal 3's, but I think a big part of that is the way he's hitting the boards so far. Regardless, so nice to see him have a positive impact for the first time in years
- Sochan, good lord. Even though he seems to be developing a better jump shot, he seems to be regressing in every other aspect of his game. Even if he becomes a decent shooter by season's end, I have a hard time seeing too many teams who would want to overpay for a 4th year player with a 30th percentile impact
- Harper's doing well so far - it's pretty rare for rookies to get anywhere near positive EPM and he's third in the class so far behind Coward (+1.1) and Kon (+0.5). Rookies are usually a walking disaster impact wise (see: Carter Bryant, offensive EPM -4.0) so the fact that he's been neutral early in the season is a really encouraging sign

Under-the-radar dudes whose EPM doesn't match their name recognition:
Neemias Queta (+3.7!), Sam Merrill (+2.8), Mamu! (+2.6), Quinten Jackson (+2.3), Collin Gillespie (+2.2), Ryan Rollins (+1.9), Dru Smith (+1.9), Paul Reed (+1.6)

Your 5 worst players so far by impact so far: 5) Rob Dillingham 4) Nigel Hayes-Davis 3) Jarace Walker 2) Tyus Jones 1) Bub Carrington with honorable mention Cody Williams

EDIT:
Looking at some league wide numbers, does anyone know anything about Jamison Battle? He barely plays for Toronto but he seems like a sniper with decent size and his defense hasn't been atrocious. He's got all the markings of someone who can scale up his 3P volume with more playing time without giving up any size. Worth a flyer at some point?

Dillingham :ROFLMAO:

I remember when a decent chunk of the forum was on a suicide watch after we traded him for the 20131 pick.

I know, folks were out of control with Dillingham takes on the old site. Glad the Spurs have a “type” and that Dillingham is nowhere near that.

Bub Carrington and Jarace Walker, for that matter.

Vassel making 25M has less impact than our man Champagnie just pointing out the reality of the #'s being displayed

good old advanced stats on micro samples, missed that.

The only thing going for Sochan is that it's a small sample for him so far.

But overall, the Spurs have improved across the board. The real story is that. Kudos to Mitch and the new coaching staff. This is discernible improvement.

You nailed it.

I don't think Battle will be available though because he's making the minimum and they're slightly over the tax, so they'll probably look to dump Agbaji, already losing time to Walter, for a lesser salary at a different position. That'll move Battle up a rung.

12/20/2025 (27 games / 1/3 of the way into the season)

Devin Vassell+1.8 (84)+1.2 (84) / +0.5 (74)
Keldon Johnson+0.3 (70)+0.6 (75) / -0.3 (42)

Luke Kornet+0.3 (70)+0.4 (71) / -0.1 (52)
Dylan Harper+0.5 (71)+0.3 (69) / +0.2 (63)
David Jones-Garcia-0.3 (60)-0.6 (54) / +0.3 (70)
Carter Bryant-3.7 (11)-4.0 (4) / +0.2 (67)
Kelly Olynyk-0.3 (59)-0.4 (58) / +0.1 (59)

- Pretty on-par with what you'd expect for a team on the rise. Wemby #1 overall in dEPM (admittedly a flawed metric) as expected
- Castle establishing himself as the second best two-way player on the team. 2nd in his class in EPM behind Shaq Edey
- Vassell leads the pack of 4 wings, which is appropriate given his contract size / length relative to that of the other 3. One nuance about EPM and all-in-one metrics like this is that they don't necessarily tell us about how good a player is in an absolute sense, but rather how good they are in the role that they're currently filling. It makes sense that Devin's changed role has given him an increased bump in impact.
- Similarly, Kornet's numbers reflect how often he's had to go up against starting centers. All things considered, I'm very happy with his performance, as this suggests he's a well above average player who's started 14/19 games this year
- Can't stress enough how rare it is for a rookie, and especially a one and done rookie to be above neutral in EPM. Which actually makes Kon's start (+1.4) even more insane.
- Sochan, well, that's just about a wrap. Pretty much mentally broken at this point and probably needs a change of scenery. After all, prior Spurs fan favorite Zach Collins is an above average player by impact (-0.2, 62nd percentile) this season. Then again, Blake Wesley (-2.3)
- Does Olynyk need to be playing more on nights when we need more size?

Your bottom 5 so far this season:
Honorable mention: Jarace Walker (-5.4)
5. Rob Dillingham, Nick Richards (-5.9)
4. Tre Mann (-6.0)
2. Bub Carrington, Nigel Hayes-Davis (-6.6)
1. Jericho Sims (-7.3)

Underrated?
Mamu! (+1.8), 2 / $5.2 million
Josh Okogie (+1.4), 1 / $3 million
Bball Paul Reed (+1.3) 2 / $11 million
Derrick Jones Jr (+0.6) 3 / $30 million

Gotta admit I loved Dillingham watching him play at Kentucky and wanted to draft him for the longest time. Then I saw him looking like Steph Castle's son in an interview at the draft lottery which cooled me a lot on him, with the Trae Young 164 lbs combine measurement as the last straw to the point I didn't want him period any more even if it was with a pick in the 20s.

Someone has to have a screenshot of that interview on ESPN where Sheppard and Dillingham were on one side and then on the other were Clingan and Castle looking like their proud fathers at the draft lottery.

Castle already matching Fox's impact while barely into his sophomore season is interesting to say the least. I don't think it's a case of Fox underperforming as much as it's Castle blowing up the roof of his projected ceiling..

Really hope I don't jinx him, but thrilled with the way Devin is playing this year. Love how quick he is to either fire up the three, take his man off the dribble for the midrange jumper, or to pass to an initiator off the catch. Very little iso ball sizing up defenders, which is better off left to the initiators like Castle, Fox, and Harper. He has been excellent playing the role of a finisher. Also very impressive that Harper is a positive, and on both sides of the ball. Very hard for a rookie to not be a negative on EPM. I think Kon (+1.4) and VJ (+0.9) are the only two other first round picks with positive EPM.
