Game Thread Spurs (53-18) @ Heat (38-33) (Mon 3/23/2026) [6:00PM CDT]

Wild to think that with 11 games left, it's a foregone conclusion that we'll be the 2 seed. We'd have to go 3-8 or worse, with the Lakers winning out, to even drop into the 3 spot. The odds of that happening have to be astronomically low. What a luxury the Spurs have to be able to rest players for treatment, try out different lineups, and get lower-stakes reps in over the next three weeks.

I wouldn't have been mad if the Spurs used this game to give guys some rest (Miami being a direct rival of Atlanta), but on the other hand I really dislike Miami, their fans, and the narrative that Bam Adebayo is DPOY or Kelel Ware is the Wemby killer (though that died quickly), so...

Had this one marked as an L tbh. Line is Spurs -4.5.

Would be pleasantly surprised with a W but that becomes a lot harder without Castle or Devin tbh.

if we had a very strong 9-2 finish to the season, we'd still need OKC to go 6-5 to catch them in the standings. not worth over exerting anything. take these games to make sure we are healthy and geared up for the playoffs. obviously not saying just sit everybody for 5-6 games... have to make sure we are still humming. but if anybody is dealing with something questionable just rest them. wemby isnt getting MVP and DPOY is locked up as long as he hits 64 games played

i dont think overstressing about matching DET in case of a finals matchup is worth it

You low key rest guys while keeping pressure on OKC up until the end. They won the west by double digit games last year, and went into the playoffs really rested. Can’t let that happen again.

theyre not going to lose in the first round anyway. by the time we face them, assuming we advance, it would be all the way in the third round, so im not really thinking that way. second round denver or minnesota could conceivably pull upsets against them.

i like jmac and if he wants to keep coming back at or around the vets min we should hang onto him for sure. there was some discussion last week as far as whether lindy waters or jmac would be the higher priority retention, and i said then his ballhandling is valuable and i'd trust him defending PGs more than id want to see Waters defending SGs

he's had a nice couple of games now since then

I never said they would lose in the first round. If they enter the playoffs fatigued, that becomes cumulative. That’s better for us than them getting a nice long rest beforehand.

eh, theres like a week off between the end of regular season and the playoffs anyway due to the play-in

Or maybe also start resting yourself, since the #2 seed is about locked up: 7 games ahead of #3 Lakers with 11 to go, Spurs have the tiebreaker, and their next 5 games include Memphis, Milwaukee, Chicago and GSW. No need to push for 60 something wins, just get the guys healthy and rested for the playoffs while not losing rhythm.

Five days. If they get rest, that could be two weeks.

Are you ever not contrarian/argumentative? You’re probably the only poster on this board who doesn’t see a tired OKC team as a good thing.
