Game Thread Spurs (49-18) @ Clippers (34-33) (Mon 3/16/2026) [9:00PM CDT]

The spurs forward slots are so up and down across games. Barnes, Champ, CB, KJ, Vassell sort of man those spots by committee, and all are capable of changing the course of a game with their play. (I still have faith in unc pulling his weight in the playoffs in a grand redemption arc. Call me delusional.)

As a casual, it seems to me like KJ and Vassell have been the most consistently positive players (imagine hearing that at the beginning of the season!) but the overall depth really plays in our favor here. It's not a terrible situation as it is now.

Still, I guess we'd all love to see CB outright claim a starter role, eh? I don't think he's quite ready, but I would still love to see an early trial by fire. That 4 slot is the most concerning of the mix. If he can consistently hit threes and cut down on rookie mistakes, it's kinda over imo.
Also I want to see more Castle at SF.

Very up and down game but I am glad they got it done. More rest for Wemby would have been great but hopefully he does not have to play too much against the Kings.
:st-flag: :st-flag: :st-flag:

Plum did well in the context of a 3rd stringer pulled into 2nd string but he looked bad. Kinda not his fault when he is a slow big and LAC went fast and small which exposed Plumlee. That's on Mitch not pulling him but what else could Mitch do with Korn out and Wemby needing rest besides CB/Barnes or KO and Biyombo which would've been worse?

Mitch should've gone with the small ball lineup that the Clippers were struggling with all night.

I'm fine with giving Plumlee a shot to see what he can do and that seemed like an okay time to do it, but Mitch left him out there too long. I think he was just hoping they could make it to the end of the 3rd quarter (without using a timeout) but once the Clips trimmed the lead from 24 to 12, he had to pull the plug. Fortunately, there was a foul to stop play because Spurs were sinking fast.

Someone start the Kings GT to improve their record, there are just 12 hours until the tip-off.
(I'll do it if not done within an hour.)

Didn’t get to watch this one live but caught the replay. Obviously very up-and-down sloppy effort. The Clippers just were killing us in the second half. Especially the bench. But I’ll take games like this because it’s all learning experience for still a young team.

I didn't get to watch it live, either. It was an all over the place game. I would have been happy with the game if it wasn't for that terrible finish, but I left being pretty unhappy with it. It was closer to a moral loss than a good win. Glad they won, though.
I hated that they started the game poorly, loved that they came back, but then the finish of the game starting at the end of the third quarter was terrible. They did have a good few minutes in the 4th quarter, but overall, the end of the third and most of the 4th, they didn't play well.

This is also getting a bit crazy, but I'm starting to not be comfortable about who the possible 7th seed matchup is. I don't know if it's because the Spurs play down to those teams, or if those teams give the Spurs trouble/matchup problems (Phoenix, Clippers, Warriors with Curry), but I feel better about playing the 3rd or 4th seed. Then again, a tough first round matchup rather than an easier series might help the Spurs more towards making a deeper playoff run.

It's frustrating to watch, but ultimately better for this team. Yes, blowouts build confidence and are better for our stress levels, but the Spurs aren't going to see those in the playoffs so better get used to scrappin' and scratchin' now.

Yes, and you have to get through the highs and lows of when you are rolling and obviously when things are going to shit.

Would rather not play these guys in the First Round tbh.
No shit.

I was at the game last night but I remember things before.

The last time I went to a Spurs playoff game in LA was that nightmarish Game 7 against the Clippers where CP3 hit that ridiculous high-off-the-glass bank shot.

To see this so good and so young team lose to stone-faced Kawhi and his Clippers would be the worst case scenario for this otherwise wonderful season.

The shot that Timmy got his fingertips on? Aaargh! It was a nightmare.

im not sure plumlee is better than biyombo tbh. if he's above the FT line he looks like he's in slow motion

Wemby, Castle, Fox, Devin, Champagnie, Keldon, Kornet, Harper, Bryant, Barnes. That's it. After that, the talent on this team drops off a cliff. All roster spots from 11, on could be turned over to G-Leaguers, and the Spurs would be no worse off for it. Jones-Garcia would have made this cut sans the ankle injury, but it's hard to tell if Mitch shares that opinion of him. Hopefully Plumlee can at least provide some smart play, and be a bit of an enforcer when called upon, but yeah, at first glance he looks kind of cooked.

Luckily in the playoffs rosters shorten, so having 10 guys who can play is probably two more than you need in most playoff games. Health will be key, as the backups to our backups pretty much suck.

I do wish some of our end of bench guys were at least intriguing but its an apocalyptic wasteland down there with Biz, Olynyk, Lindy, Jordan and now Plumlee. Even our 2 way guys aren’t what i’d call interesting (outside of DJG before his injury).

I expect we’ll see it addressed this summer. I would love to see some younger guys with the potential (and hunger) to actually challenge for rotational spots.

Funny that Micah Potter was a camp cut and yet has actually been a plus player for Indy this year. Wish we had kept him instead of literally anyone I listed.

Lindy is the only guy at the end of the roster I'd be willing to see come back. He at least has some promise as an end of bench shooter. He looks bad in those garbage time lineups because it's just completely dysfunctional... but he has had a few contributions with the regular team. He's a long ways away from a regular rotation spot, but he'd be worth keeping to fill the end of the roster until something better came along.

eh, he's extremely replaceable. he provides very little other than taking a couple of 3's, and he made just under 35% of them this year, was under 35% last year.

im not expecting us to roster 15 rotation level guys of course, so there are worse things than having him back as the 14th or 15th guy

Of course he's extremely replaceable, but he's the least of my concerns of the 5 guys at the end of the roster. Like you said, there are worse things than having him back as the 14th or 15th guy... but hopefully he's the 14th or 15th guy, not the 11th or 12th guy like he is now.

My power rankings of the end of our roster:

Lindy
JMac
Lunch Lady
Plumdog
An empty roster spot
Bismack

i probably value JMac higher than Lindy. we do have 3 guys that can play PG ahead of him, but its still a more valuable skillset. and i think pound for pound id rather have JMac defending another PG than i'd want Lindy defending a SG

I’m watching the Austin Spurs right now and wouldn’t mind Harrison Ingram finally earning one of those spots
