Game Thread Spurs (44-17) vs Pistons (45-15) (Thu 03/05/26) [7:00 PM CST]

i struggle to think of a more monster performance in my time as a spurs fan. people talk about ray allen's shot doing wonders for lebron's legacy, but duncan was really struggling/choking late in game 5, and if we fell 3-2, i dont think we win the series

This. And it's why I will never shit on Big Shot Bob no matter how much he hates Fat Antonio nowadays tbh :st-lol:

Pistons coming back to win G6 and take a big lead deep into G7 also speaks to their mental toughness/resolve. Still our toughest finals opponent, even tougher than the 2013 Heat IMO tbh.
Viva Manu!

Take as much time as you need harrelson

Going to be a tough game, but I believe the Spurs will pull out the win. First home game back, hopefully they stay focused. Easy to lose a bit of focus when you haven't played at home in a while (I don't think they will be focused, though).

It’s amazing how many things have to go correctly to win the NBA championship. Big shot Bob misses that shot and they go home down 3-2 and who knows?
Spurs lose that series without Horry's heroics imo. That Detroit team was tough and they only would've needed one of the next two to seal the deal, albeit on the road. I think they would be done it though tbh.

That's so fucking unfair. Tim Duncan was the focal point of the Spurs and the Detroit Pistons, maybe the best defensive team ever, were game planning ways to get the ball away from Timmy with their top six players.

Rasheed Wallace played Duncan better than anybody ever, and, oh by the way, he had Ben Wallace beside him for that series.

Horry was amazing, but even suggesting that Duncan was choking is fucking ludicrous. When a team takes away your number one option, the other guys have to step up and Horry was one of the guys that did that.

so unfair :st-cry:

gameplan shmameplan. its the NBA finals. and while duncan overall had a very good series while battling injury, he was choking his ass off in game 5. go back and watch the last minutes of regulation and OT

spurs up 1 with 1 minute to go, duncan bricks 2 free throws. gets hacked with the spurs down 1 and 34 seconds to go, only makes 1-2. final possession of regulation misses what should have been a pretty easy tap-in (sound familiar?)

then in OT...0-2 from the field. fouls billups on a drive to gift them free throws at ~2:55 mark. sheed scores on him with 1:45 to go. down 2 with a minute to go, duncan turns it over inexcusably (somehow credited to Horry)

sorry man, you go 1-4 from the FT line to close the 4th, 0-2 from the field with an awful turnover in OT (that one made free throw was the only point he scored after the 4:45 mark in the 4th)... if the spurs lost that game in today's social media age it would have been called out as one of the biggest superstar choke jobs in memory. but horry bailed him out and duncan was awesome when we had to come from behind in game 7.

look man, duncan is my guy (the 21 in my username doesnt come from nowhere), but a spade is a spade

After watching pre-game I'm beginning to wonder if this is going to be a basketball game or a bareknuckled boxing match. Mitch get the bruisers ready.
