Game Thread Spurs (32-16) vs Magic (25-22) (Sun 2/01/26) [8:00PM CST]

The league has started to play Wemby super physically but its like the NBA refuses to call fouls. I swear he gets mugged half the time in the post and there isnt a single call.

Offense just went to complete shit after the first quarter, mostly a function of Wemby being a dumbass
How concerned are u by his stagnation on that end, scott? His playmaking seems to have actually regressed from his rookie year when he used to flirt with triple double in multiple games.

I wouldn’t be as concerned if Mitch had more cache as a coach. He may be seen more of as a peer than a superior to these guys and not have the gravitas to coach someone like Wemby hard enough.

Which means it’s up to Wemby to have the self-awareness to realize he hurts the team at times with shit like this. He seems to be a smart, reflective guy… but he also has a bit of an ego and may be dead set on doing it “his way”

I was thinking earlier today. This is our first "good" team in the modern 3 point era. Are we sure that the modern offensive style isn't what we hate? It's high pace high variance shot chucking, and we routinely see our guys go on inside hot and cold streaks.
For me it’s a holistic assessment based mainly on the players, coaching, general vibes.

For example, I always knew Demar was bitchmade and would never contribute to winning basketball. His whole mental health schtick to deflect from his on-court shortcomings added to it. Couldn’t stand Derrick white when he was here always sitting with bs foot injuries. I actually liked DJM

This era we have useless SOBs like Barnes and groundhog day coaching malpractice. It sucks knowing we finally have (or seem to have..) the personnel and it’s always the same 1 or 2 people holding us back

We’re either going to win this one in a relative close one, or just get completely blown out by being out of gas. hard to tell at this point. First half is reminding me of those first MIN and CLE games we lost (both were without Wemby, but both were games we had an early lead and then just ran out of gas)

Want to win, but also kind of want DEN to win just so Mitch doesn’t get the honor of coaching the All Star game. Would be even less deserving than LeBron going
Same..A fugazi second seed for 5 weeks now led by a coach who is finding ever more creative ways to choke 15-points leads in games.

Which, if that’s the case makes him the exact opposite of Tim Duncan, who was insanely coachable. But Tim also had a coach that wanted to coach like crazy and was hard on his players. That’s not this coach.

I don’t think Wemby is not coachable, it’s just that this coach doesn’t hasn’t earned or developed the ability to coach Wemby the way he needs to be coached. I also don’t think 77-year old Pop would be the guy to do it, and I’m not sure who would these days. People will say Malone or Jenkins, but they’re just the best of the known coaches who are available. Undoubtably their in-game decisions would be better, but I’m just talking about Wemby here

There’s never been anyone like prime pop and there prob never will be. But we don’t even need that lol we just need someone with basic and balls tbh
Thibs at least wouldn't be playing his starters 30mpg, tbh.

Rocking Hawaiian food in what I can only presume is a shoutout to me, thanks Sean and Jacob!
