Game Thread Spurs (27-11) @ Timberwolves (25-14) (Sun 1/11/26) [6PM CST]

Disappointing loss but I saw more good than bad. Castle sucked on offense but did a great job on Ant defensively so probably close to a wash. Two or three more minutes from Wemby is a win. Not sure why Keldon wasn't in for the last few minutes. On to the next one.

I tink my giga-rant in Mitch's topic still stands, it was written after the Grizzlies game and it's been more or less the same since.

If a few players are struggling, it's on them.
If almost everyone is struggling, it's on the coaching staff.
Considering the toys at his disposal, he went fast from overperforming during the Wemby-less stretch to underperforming with his roster since Christmas..Racking up way too many bad losses in short span when we barely had one the first month of season despite being shorthanded.

that inbound turnover straight to Divincenzo 3, gonna haunt me until the spurs next win tbh

they had a few of those those turnovers, just unforced

Vic played great, he had a chance to put this away also in the 4th but couldnt make the shots he needed in the 4th, Randle played him well
Randle was wrestling him and the refs just let them.

Jaylen Brown is the real mvp tbh

And I continue to LOL at Rudy Gobert's historical overratedness on defense. He's not even the best defensive player on his team.

By coaching staff I mean everyone, not just Mitch.

Do we even have shooting coaches? What are player development guys doing?
What we're seeing from Castle/Harper is anything but Spurs way and pounding the rock.

Mitch has his moments where he makes bad decisions (I’m not blaming him for Wemby’s minutes like a lot of you guys are because I thought we are supposed to all know that the medical team sets the minutes and the coach is supposed to just do their best to make it work) but the reality of this loss is that it falls on the guards.

Castle, Fox and Harper have been so ineffective on offense lately. Tonight was terrible especially for Castle and Harper. And I didn’t watch a lot of Kings games but Fox seems to have gotten much smaller because I could have sworn he was a better driver and finisher at the rim than this..

So the guard play has been good these last two weeks?
No, but I’m going to be patient. It’s a rough stretch right now. The team has flaws of course they do. I don’t think one single person here Had any thoughts of winning the NBA championship this season. I sure didn’t.

Ant had 23 tonight on 48% shooting while Steph had 7 TO and shot 2-11. Was easily the worst player on the floor tonight, which is saying something when Harper laid a goose egg.

Dude, you’re more irritating than anything you complain about. Just shut up about social justice and all your bullshit. It has nothing to do with this game.

You bitch about pop, who’s not even fucking coaching and then you bitch about millennials.

Did they walk on your grass or have that loud boom boom music while driving near you?

Is there anything you’re not pissed off about?

God damn. You’re too cranky.

Next time take an afternoon nap if a 6pm game is too late for you.

Feel Better?

This asshole mitch actually threw out the phrase
"Where out of our weight Class"
WTF does that mean.
This isn't the NFL, MMA or SUMO
Look at that Skinny Fuck in Dennis Rodman weighed 210 TOPS his whole career, maybe 6'8" in shoes, technique and desire allowed him to go toe to do with a 300-pound Kaiju like SHAQ
That's why he is in the hall of fame
Isn't that a message you deliver, and example, instead of "Well Vic, is too skinny, Keldon is too short, "

FUCK THIS GUY

The Dunning-Kruger head coach you get from Professor Pop, the Dean of Social Justice and Citizenship, “It’s only basketball” and “It’s not who we are” era of the Spurs.

What do you expect from this Millennial Simulator Coach...

dude has no feel for the game. I dont care if he is a fucking halfbreed who can speak. Dide is dumb as fuck

gonna be a grind from now till end of regular season

spurs can finish 2nd or fall all the way down to 6th

still cant believe they couldnt hold on and get this dub

Been pounding the drum that a lot of their issues are on the coaching side tbh. They lack shooting, we know this. No excuse for the piss-poor substitution patterns, in-game adjustments, and playcalls out of timeouts. Mitch right now is the biggest problem.

While Mitch hasn't been great during this stretch, I'm not sure what he's supposed to do when Fox/Castle/Harper/Barnes have all been literal dog shit since Christmas and Devin's injured tbh.

Believe me, I was yelling at my TV at Castle for most of the night. He's not my ideal point guard. I don't know what role he fits, he's got All-Star potential overall but right now he is handling the ball too much.

FG% only tells part of the story. Ant scored 6 fewer points than his average on 2 more attempts. That's a good defensive result I will take any night against this team. He wasn't a factor.

Spurs didn't shoot well enough to deserve the win, but they also didn't get any favors in the 4th quarter. Refs swallowed their whistle on 4 or 5 obvious fouls which allowed the Wolves to get back in the game, and even got the challenge review on Wemby wrong (I think it was Reid who got all ball, but they totally ignored Ant whacking Wemby on the arm at the same time.)

So pointing out the guards suck the last two weeks is being impatient and cliff jumping? I'm not saying trade them, but the team does not look ok right now despite the wins they have pulled out of their ass vs the Celtics and Knicks.

I see a team that gives great effort and that’s commendable. But it was still really bad offense outside of Wemby for most part.

Offensive performances like this make me even miss Tre Jones and Doug McDermott at times but I have to remind myself that defense is half the game.

I think the guard play will certainly pick up because we have talent. We have to get a shooter in here by the trade deadline. That’s the biggest need they have. The outside shooting probably isn’t going to get all that much better this season. I expect to win somewhere in the mid 50s if we are healthy. Maybe get to the conference finals. And I’m good with that.

Harper is just lost right now.
He really does seem to be. That play where he threw that wild crosscourt pass to Castle in the corner, nearly over his head, had me puzzled. OK maybe you make a risky pass like that if Champ has an open shot, or HB or Keldon. But for Steph shooting 26% from behind the line and with a man up on him? Dylan has looked so cool and in control, slowing the game down and making great passes all season but these last two weeks he looks like a poor man's Scoot Henderson. I know there's a HOF point guard in there from what he has shown until these last two weeks but damn where is he?
