Game Thread Spurs (25-11) vs Lakers (23-11) (Wed 01/07/26) [8:30PM CST] on ESPN

Hopefully LeBron sits tonight tbh. He often sits on the 2nd leg of a b2b and he basically dragged them to victory last night. Tonight's game is primetime on ESPN though so I could see him wanting to play.

Deep Breath okay lets get it..

Fox show up before 4 min left in the game tonight.. Castle stop playing Hero ball.. Harper wake up. Mitch Wemby can play like 25 min and mange it correctly. Please shoot well from 3 tonight..

Go Spurs Go!!!

Spurs vs Fakers games are always so fucking late, sucks.

Doncic has always brought it against the Spurs so they'd better put their heads on straight or it'll get ugly.

Mitch could manage Wemby's minutes so he could play almost an entire 4th quarter against OKC - can he / will he try to do the same tonight?

This team has shown us resolve and resiliency that we didn't expect and is perhaps ahead of schedule. Tonight, in my opinion, is a huge moment to take the next step in being a true top-tier team. Yes, we have dropped 4 of 6 since the Christmas day game. But let's not act like we're the first good team to go through a rough patch. OKC is 6-6 since Dec 12. The Knicks are on a four game losing streak. The very Lakers we play tonight had dropped 4 of 5 before their current 3 game win streak (all against losing teams).

Believe, you Gutless Worms.

i miss joel meyers

i know he had a run as the spurs tv guy, but i mostly saw him doing lakers stuff in the 2000s. absolutely one of the best is the business
Same. I feel nostalgic every time we play the Pels and I hear his voice tbh. He and Antonio Daniels' personalities juxtapose each other pretty nicely. They do a podcast together in the offseason as well.

I'll be the contrarian and say that everyone showing up tonight would send the wrong message because that would mean our issues aren't related to gameplan, but the lack of effort.
And I really don't want these Spurs to be a team that plays up/down to opposition's level. We were always a team that believed in ethical basketball and showing up for every game.

As we talked about last summer, he can be useful in certain lineups, but he simply can't play with Castle and I'll even say Kornet.
He can be the only non-shooter on the floor, but last night we saw that Sochan/Bryant lineup which was basketball terrorism. Then he closed the game out with Castle until Castle fouled out.

Pretty crazy that someone with "absolutely no NBA level skills" can be anywhere near "useful" in a top-seeded team's lineups, eh? :st-wink:

Well, when Barnes' shot isn't falling, he also has no NBA level skills.
Jeremy's only "skill" is hustle and effort, which makes him more useful than Barnes in those scenarios.
And Olynyk, since the same thing about shot making applies to him.

But our team's level is not static or linear. It is ever evolving and (thankfully) still growing. We will run into walls, like we are now, and ever time we hit a wall is a new opportunity to learn from it and break through it.

Let's not wallow in our own misery. Let's learn from last night, break through that wall like we're the juggernaut and never look back.

If there was ever a game to get the offense back on track, it'd be against this shitty Lakers D.

Just wished they put together 48 minutes of solid basketball. If they jump out to an early lead only to give it all back before halftime then we'll know how this'll end up tbh.

the matchup would probably be better of Reaves was playing tbh. lakers offense is going go get their's through tough shotmaking all night anyway. adding another traffic cone to the rotation instead of more minutes from Smart would have been to our advantage. Smart isnt a worldbeater defender these days, but light years ahead of arkansas dreamboat
