Game Thread Spurs (0-0) @ Mavericks (0-0) (Wed 10/22/25) [8:30PM CDT]

this has easily become my new favorite wemby game. to date still had been the rookie game vs Bucks (even though we lost), followed by some of the Nuggets games.

Just to clear the air about this before we go any further, calling someone a faggot has been a part of the ST fabric since the beginning and as long as it's not used as a gay slur it's been pretty well agreed upon among the powers that be that it's okay to continue here. Look up the South Park clip about the situation if you have any questions.

It was used on ST by dull idiotic weirdos who wanted a rise out of people. It was an era when timvp have no moderation and ST was known as being a cesspool throughout NBA fandom, something I saw many places said, because it was.

It's a word that has no business here, and catering to little children that use it is fucked up and wrong. Deeply fucked up. Let's not get pulled down into the shitty days of ST. It took a long time to get away from that scum there.

People that come over here from Spurs talk are probably going to say it sometimes. Are you just going to be walking around correcting them every time they say it? Wasted energy.
Nope, but there are forum features where it replaces the word with asterisks tbh

actually Collins hasn't been extended

other potential free agents next year... (more SF/PF than pure PF types): Rui Hachimura, Wiggins (but will likely take his player option), Fontecchio, and also KP if you want more unicorn shenanigans

pretty barren market tbh
I guess I got that wrong. Camara and Keegan Murray also got extended. Lauri is too expensive. Who else is an option? Jerami Grant? Bobby Portis? Pretty meh. We need a starting PF for the next 4 years and this roster seems set for contention.

I might still be riding a high, but did anyone else notice a difference in the overall demeanor of the team? It was most noticeable with Wemby, but Steph had it to. They had an angry edge about them. Wemby went at Lively + AD in a way that I hadn't seen before. Dude was overtly aggressive, but also really patient, which made his overall play completely destructive to the Mavs. Steph had it with 1) the way he went at defending Flagg and 2) attacking the basket. Mitch exuded it in that clip of a huddle that the broadcast showed. They played with such a high energy level that they seemed to be swarming the Mavs early and often. Completely different team than the one I saw last year - which, now as I say that, might be a function of having young guards who want to run vs. a 39 year old CP3 methodically running the offense.

It was the best performance of his career from an efficiency/quality of play standpoint and then he topped it off with two of his best highlights as well (pump fake to reverse and-1 dunk + ridiculous block that led to the cross over step back 4-point play). I think I've seriously watched the highlights a double digit number of times already and it it's only been 12 hours :st-lol:

Add in the fact that it was a season opener on the road against a rival Texas team that was favored, and he was going up against one of the premier big men in the league...just absolutely insane stuff man.

if they're getting by for now with Harrison Barnes, a developed and filled out Carter Bryant may well be just fine in that spot. he's stronger and more athletic, with a slightly longer wingspan, longer standing reach.

And if someone uses it more than you care to hear there's one you can use right now.

And let's say you put that in place and someone decides to keep going around it, which is easy to do. You going to complain about that too? Again, wasted energy

The weakest link of last night was Harrison Barnes. Jeremy, like Vassell and Keldon, deserves a clean slate to show if he’s improved or not. That PF spot is up for grabs, and like I’ve said before - the Spurs need to find a placeholder PF, a budget PF, or build nobodies up to be NBA players
Yeah F this. Jeremy’s presence screws things up. Barnes is there to space. And he spaced. Wemby can’t get into the paint last night if Mr. Summer Videos is on the court.

Kyrie returning, Flagg settling in, and having Gafford unlike tonight, how well does Dallas stabilize what we saw tonight? I'm sure they improve some. They still seem flawed in roster construction. They play in the shadow of the Luka trade and it doesn't look good.
All true, but Victor won't face much better defense than healthy Unibow. The league should be terrified of this team's potential.

yeah ill always remember the Bucks game because i felt that was his true coming out party. yes he had some strong games against KD Suns, early against Houston, a put up 30 against AD in a close loss... but him going toe to toe with Giannis during crunch time including that block was incredible. and that came just after his block on lillard into a transition 3. and he had other jaw dropping plays in that game, threw an oop to himself off the backboard, the behind the bach dunk and-1 in transition, etc. that one will always stay with me

Bryant needs development though. I'm talking making the team a title favorite. Get a PF for 4 years who can start, then replace him with Bryant once he's there development wise.

It’s a slippery slope of complacency toward things we don’t care to improve because they conflict with our own beliefs - for example, why bother addressing a forum member who constantly fights others? ‘Wasted energy,’ we tell ourselves. I think it’s giving ourselves any excuse not to try to improve anything around us.

I still can't believe that play where Wemby got the ball at the three point line, moved to the FT line, and then just fucking bulled Davis to the low block and dropped a right hand baby hook right over him. WTF do you do to guard that? It's not like he was doing this to Alexandre Sarr or Isaiah Jackson, this was prime Anthony fucking Davis.

No need for trades unless it's a slam dunk tbh. They've already got their work cut out for them incorporating Fox and Harper this season on top of learning how to play winning basketball.

He looked like a completely different player last night, offensively. Poise, control, strength. Everything he has needed was all there. Just utterly dominant, and against a very good defensive front court too. If this is truly who he is, the Spurs will be contenders very soon..

Wemby took that game personally because of Cooper Flagg hype; just look at one of his first baskets in the game, he has Flagg guarding him on the perimeter, dribbles past him and emphatically dunks it, that was clearly a "get out of the way and let me cook him" move

I remember his first game vs Chet Holmgren you could tell Wemby wanted to make a point

Maybe my favorite part of last night is Wemby sucking the oxygen out of the room and pedo-stache Flagg not even being a footnote.
My favorite part was hearing the crowd chanting Go Spurs Go! multiple times in Dallas.
That was some shit.
