Player Sochan's Extension Watch

Sounds like a guy worth about $8-10MM to me.
That's around what his archetype earns & gives the organization needed future flexibility. Totally agree.

Hopefully that's the offer or he tests FA next Summer, yet doesn't garner much more (or just signs his QO).

Nobody hates Sochan. We all love Sochan. We hate for him to get paid a huge contract when he is just a back up 4. Honestly, how much do back up 4s make? 8 million a year. So that’s how much I want him to be paid.

No hate. Just pay what the going rate is. And the going rate for a back up 4 is about 8 million.
I don’t hate anyone on earth, not to mention a stranger who seems like a nice guy.

Jeremy is my least favorite type of player though, and I just don’t want to watch him anymore. I guess I’ll take a note from KD from starting 5 and relax on saying anyone sucks or is terrible or whatever. It’s too edgy and i have no legs to stand on. But just compared to his peers, he’s a bad watch and doesn’t appear to influence winning in a positive way.

does it make any sense finding a number for Sochan, when he doesn't make any sense with the Spurs? not even as a back up.
does anyone really believe he will be a trade asset?

btw. do we think Wemby wants him on the team? I doubt it. I think Wemby rather wants some smart guys with him.

That would actually be a disaster. You don’t ever want a player in your locker room for a year with no future with the team. That’s why I was in favor of picking up the Malaki and Blake year 4 options last summer. Their attitude was good last year, and we flipped them for Lunch Lady.

People are acting like Sochan on an 18-20M contract would be untradeable. I present exhibit one: Bradly Beal. He was not only traded once while on a $50M contract and clearly washed, he was traded twice. The corpse of John Wall was traded on a similar contract. Westbrook, too.

Yeah, they just have $19M dead cap up until 2030. :st-lol:

And that was old CBA.
A lot of teams already got burned with overpaid role players and as we're seeing right now, noone wants to overpay them.

Obviously we'd be able to trade Sochan, it's just that his contract would be seen as a negative asset.

"Other teams have found a (often painful) way out of their stupid mistakes, so we should feel fine making our own stupid mistakes!"

What a take.

So we’re now in the final hour countdown?

If a deal gets made this late, I can’t imagine it would be all that favorable for Sochan. The Spurs would seem to be a stronger position

Kessler and the Jazz have been far apart the whole time. Surprised if neither Ivey or Duren get extended, figured 1 would and 1 wouldn't.

Some of these names are pretty surprising

Mathurin will probably have an inflated stats season with Haliburton out and is holding firm for big money to reflect it. Eason has legitimate injury concerns with that leg/knee that randomly causes him to miss stretches of games (almost sounds Kawhi-like).

Ivey is hurt again and will miss the first month or so of the season, IIRC. Not surprising he didn't get extended.

jazz apparently value kessler so much that they've had very high demands in trade talks around him, but they dont value him enough to pay up

Good let Sochan play and either trade him at the deadline if he doesn’t fit or let him hit RFA

Ivey doesn’t surprise me although I don’t think the injury is anything to be overly concerned about.

Could also be a lot of GMs betting on RFA not being very lucrative for guys and using that as leverage.

Wemby is a kid still and may enjoy his new friends to the extent that he doesn’t see things through that lens. But I think he will lose a lot of patience this season.

Your 1st paragraph is where I am. Even at 3 mill I don’t understand the point
