Player Sochan's Extension Watch

I don't think Sochan is smart.

Just listen to him speak...

We're talking about a pro athlete eating pizza WITH KETCHUP ON IT after training :ROFLMAO:

He's socially smart, I give him that, which is a different type of intelligence, just not the one we need on a basketball floor.
there’s a lot about this guy that you just kind of “know” by observing him for 5 seconds. It makes counter arguments of “prove it” to honestly be a little bit of a challenge without being a total psychopath and finding clips of him behaving immaturely or a reel of his dumb plays on the court. Like if people feel like THIS is an unhealthy level of obsession then putting together a smoking gun of a clip package would just seem schizophrenic. I think that’s a lot of the crux of this debate. A bunch of people saying “yeah but just watch him play” and others going “yeah but advanced stats”. You’d think the tiebreaker would be the complete lack of interest in him as a player from everyone but a handful of folks in San Antonio but whatever.

well if we're talking advanced stats:

OBPM -0.8
DBPM -0.4
BPM -1.2
VORP 0.3

they say he sucks too
Actually pretty disappointing this coming from you because I know you’re not a dumbass who couldn’t understand this, but these stats are heavily team based and the spurs were terrible last year on defense. 6th in VORP behind wemby, Barnes, Paul, champ and Vassell,

Sochan was third on the team in DBPM for the regulars behind wemby and Paul. 7th in OBPM but we already know he’s bad there and 5th in BPM.

Castle was actually worse than sochan in everyone of them but I won’t hold it against him because he spent a lot time without Wemby, but you already know that.

His defense is pretty easy to explain. He has a great motor and a complete buy in to terrorizing guys on the perimeter but isn’t particularly effective in the paint and isn’t great at navigating sophisticated schemes.

That rounds out to a very good defensive player that is additive on that end of the court. I can’t even muster some hot take about how he’s actually bad on D. He’s good. Because guys with his size and quickness who choose to engage on D - they usually are. He’s not a genius at it or anything but I’ll give him credit.

I mean we did draft Fox’s replacement so it’s not surprising that we are doing well w/o him.

I still have prayingdog.gif that Sochan actually did learn how to shoot. We would instantly be title contenders

You’re just setting yourself up for either disappointment or another round of unjustified rage. It’s not going to happen this year or next year or the year after. He may one day become a below average shooter but I don’t see him ever being average.

Jeremy brings defense, length (alleged 7" wingspan) & athleticism, but somehow him playing would've "led to a loss?" 🙄

Make it make sense.
Spurs have lost more games over the last three years with Sochan playing than without him. He negatively impacts the offensensive flow.

Sochan has a lot of challenges, especially on this team, in the big picture. But right now with Barnes not shooting well, yeah, I'd like to see what Sochan can do.

there’s a lot of “we need Sochan back” stuff, given whatever challenges we have at the moment. Does anyone have a specific way he would be useful in favor or Barnes? In the non-Wemby minutes he could grab some boards, I guess. But if he doesn’t shoot/space and his rebounding is typically redundant with Vic, and we’re seeing improved perimeter D…???

We’re struggling with blitzing and doubles on Wemby. He’s not going to solve that, is he?

So your suggestion is zero minutes? If so, that doesn't seem realistic. He has a lot to prove but he still needs a chance to prove it. Barnes has been bad lately imo, so yes seeing if Sochan can fit into this new version of our team is worth a shot.

I'm just an armchair endocrinologist, but I sense, just maybe, that you don't like Sochan in any scenario.

If you’re offering me Sochan vs a mystery player behind a curtain, I’ll take the mystery player 10 times out of 10. Zero minutes is my goal. But if I can’t have that, he still has to come off the bench. You simply can’t start the guy or close with him.

Of course I know they are based on the team being bad and Jeremy having to play back up C. I just found it funny to bring them up.

Gotta see what he looks like on this new team, but at this point we need to see some progress from him offensively.

Can someone remind me - is Sochan’s current injury the same one that kept him out of EuroBasket, or a new one? Bc I didn’t recall that summer injury being talked about as a huge deal (but same with Fox’s hammy tbh)

I thought Summer was some version of leg stuff and this recent one was his hand or finger??

No, please find these supposed clips of him being JaVale McGee like on the court. Do that instead of regurgitating the same stuff over & over again in endless word salads.
