The ninth pick of the 2022 NBA draft, Sochan has logged DNPs in eight games this season after starting in 149 contests over four seasons with the Spurs. As the NBA's trade deadline looms, Sochan admitted he's trying to avoid pondering a potential future that might not be in San Antonio.

"When I think about my whole life, I've been moving all over the place. I left home at 15, and this is the first time I've been somewhere for more than a year since then. This is my home. I feel like I've put in a lot of blood and sweat here to this city," he said. "I'm going to put all of that into wherever I am, and I'm here right now. So, I'm staying here and it's out of my control. I feel like there's waves. It's up and down. There's days where it's sunny and then days where it's dark. I think my career has been like that. I feel like I've put a lot of effort into doing the right thing, and sometimes things you can't control happen. Some of it is positive, some negative. It's been dark, but what can I do? I can't control it. The most important thing is to stay in the present, and that's what I'm doing."

Well, he’s got a good attitude if nothing else. He gets hate beyond his poor performances, such as attacks on his IQ (such a lazy and boring analysis people throw around at players) and character that I think is so unnecessary and more of a reflection of who people are with their obsessive hate.

Rooting for Sochan tbh. He's looked good the past couple games. Played with much more effort and urgency. Even hit some 3's. Hoping he plays well with upcoming minutes he's about to receive with CB going to Austin. I know there's still untapped potential in there tbh. He used to give us games like these:

Still has a career ahead of him. Not a Mitch guy, though, and it looks like his confidence left him. He also works best with a guard who can get feed him in the right places. Chris Paul could do it. Fox sure as fuck can't, and Castle can't, really. Mitch kept trying to get Carter Bryant minutes for some reason and any future Sochan had on this team was snuffed out. I can see him do well on a team like the Knicks, but it's probably over here.

ive always said there is an NBA player in there somewhere. he has reasonable size/length to be a modern wing. he's a solid man to man defender, always has been, and still is, particularly when guarding 2/3 types. but the problem has been offensively he has been unable to function as a wing.

early in his career and during the draft eval there was a lot of talk of him being a good connective passer, but that has not been a thing at all during his pro career so far. pair that with his lack of outside shot, and he's just a dunker spot specialist which for most wings is simply not good enough.

He would do well with Luka in LA or with Boston full of great shooters also.

CP3 is the only one that able to run a proper Pick and Roll with Sochan finishing.

Hell, actually I have not seen any Spurs players (except CP3) able to run a proper Pick and Roll since Wemby join the league.

“it’s been dark” while earning $23 Million over 4 years to throw an orange ball at a hoop as a 19-23 yo is kind of wild not gonna lie.

Just my perspective.
I know what you're saying, but it can still be dark anywhere no matter how much money you're making. Some people don't value money over certain things. If I was a player making 100M but not playing great or not getting any court time (I'd rather be getting less money, and getting court time and playing well), I'd be upset and a little down too. It's good to have perspective and have as much of a positive attitude as you can, but not everyone has that type of makeup.

wish they would work on it with Harper and Castle. For sochan and Wemby PnR

Pacers with Haliburton tbh
The pacers were designed so that every guy on the team could participate in moving the ball and shooting. He’s one of the least “Pacers” guys in the entire league.

He doesn’t fit well with any team because of his offensive limitations at his size. Even if he is a pro and can work his way back into rotational minutes, at best he’s a 11th/12th guy that you pull in situationally. Which means there’s no “he’d be good with…”. He’s just a specialist. Maybe he can be a valuable one. But he’s not someone who can be integrated in with better players. Microwave defender, basically.

it’s obvious money is not everything for Sochan so his quotes on being dark come from a state of desiring family and continuity. My assumption is he feels dark because of the potential aspect of being traded or cut or simply not resigned with the team.

In his current state, as a player, he’s serviceable as a 10th-12th man off the bench. And if he truly wants to stay here, he may need to accept that role or even go to gleague to get playing time and continue to work on his shot. If he’s willing to accept that he may stay. Could end up like Danny green who took a while to finally stick and become a rotation player on a good team.

I’ve never really questioned sochan’s love for the team, as he has been willing to accept any role he was told to perform. Whether he was able to is another story.

He wanted to perform, he wanted to help the team, he wanted to contribute so I’m not sure why that could be taken as a negative. I mean, what would happened if he said “oh it’s great, I get pocket millions to wave a towel and I can’t be happier!” Or even “I’m happy with whatever role the team wants me to do, even if it’s not getting any playing time.”, then the same people criticizing him for being emo would say he’s a leech and has no professionalism. Likely with the “it proves he’s low iq because he doesn’t understand that means the team tells him he sucks and has no future”.

Basically, some people just like to pick on a player and spin whatever happened into proof that he is the worst player to ever make it to the nba. Happened to lil general, rose, nazr, Blair, brickowski, rasho, fathead, Neal, head of the snake, white, zollins, Blake, braham, sochan and is starting for Carter Bryant and even a bit for castle and fox when he isn’t playing his greatest. Hell, people were even ragging on Elliott before his kidney issues became public and the admiral when the spurs were overachieving in the regular season and couldn’t make the finals.

No one is “picking on him”. He’s a subject of discussion, and isn’t very good. So then nature takes its course.

But it’s also reactionary to media and fans still…STILL…calling him important and all that. Tynan, for example, is telling us he “fills a need”. A need? What need? We suck at shooting and won a zillion games without him. But because he’s an entertaining clown sometimes, folks think that’s some kind of void that needs filled. And this is after the Memphis game where we saw exactly why you can’t have him around - because he tanks your offense. So these arguments aren’t against thin air. But I do agree that here at BLB it does seem like piling on because most of us agree.

”not picking on” but will be there in every thread to call Sochan a clown. Exactly the type of nonsense and obsessive hate by your typical members here in full display. Mr. Body with Fox, Schmurs with his unhealthy obsession with SGA/ OKC and Sochan, his twin Pauleta would be here too hating on Sochan. Smh.

How much time out of my day do you think I spend thinking about OKC?

If he has trade value and isn't in coach Johnson's future vision, I'd say move him while he still can garner some return.
I would normally agree with this, but if the Spurs can't find another PF for this season, might be worth holding onto Jeremy. I would still give him court time until the trade deadline to get a real good look before trading him. These past two games, he's at least shot the 3 ball with confidence. I don't see him playing bad. He might not play great, but I think he'll play good enough to at least up his trade value/if not fight to stay on the team.

KJ has played really good since his trade scare last season.

It has been quite a while where Sochan's offence is known to be an issue, there really isn't any question about it at this point. He can try and fit in by cuts and dunks but the offence isn't designed that way to TS for him. However, there are still cases where his defence was useful. This year, that skill of his has been reduced since Castle, Vassell and Keldon have all stepped up.

The issue isn't about what he does on the court, but about conjecture of what happens outside. You are also recently upped your game and started saying CB has obvious ADHD issues as if you knew something, and then another psycho-analysis of Fox that I forgot. It is amusing to say the least, and if anything waters down your other valid arguments as it shows your biases. You can obviously have your opinions of players about how they play, but getting personal with no proof whatsoever is just odd. It's not a case of jumping on Malone about pedophile past, Kawhi about his highly questionable choice of forcing his way to LA, or Rodman for the stuff he said he did on record, it's all made up garbage that reeks of bias and ultimately adds nothing to any discussion.
