Player Shams: Biyombo Returns on One Year Deal

I was rewatching some games today and like 80% of the time Bismack gets the ball he is looking to do nothing but a dribble hand off :ROFLMAO: .

It doesn't matter where he is on the floor either free throw line 3 point line left block right block if he touches it he either comes to a complete standstill and waits for somebody to get the ball or he backs up and just does a dribble hand off with the person nearest him :ROFLMAO:

Doesn't even look at the rim.

Need to get rid of this guy and use that roster spot on someone that isn't completely washed up.

At this point in this awesome reason we are having, Biyombo has become my biggest roster concern.

Rather than clog up other threads with my grievances, I thought I'd post it here. So what are the theoretical justifications for him to be on the roster?

I have two:
  1. Bismack makes an amazing Moambe Chicken and it has become Wemby's favorite meal
  2. Bismack's brother is an exiled Congolese Prince who has promised Mitch a share of a $1B bounty if Bismack can make it an entire NBA season and the government of Congo has agreed to return Frankie Biyombo to the royal court.
We are one Luke turned ankle away from 15 minutes/game of Harrison Barnes center minutes. It is honestly my only concern we have going into the home stretch and the playoffs.

Agreed. Who’s your best candidate(s) for the Big C insurance role?

I guess a third justification I've seen proposed is that he's our enforcer. But is he really? He seems to actually be that uncle that everyone thinks is tough and is rumored to have spent some time in jail because there was a few years where no one saw or heard from him... but it turns out he wasn't in jail, he was overseas volunteering to teach blind kids how to fly fish because he's actually the nicest fucking guy on the planet.

Don't we have a front office job for him somewhere? Is there an empty office next to Gorgui Dieng's current used for storing Pop's CIA files that we can clean out?

I thought it would be Bassey especially with him tear jerker backstory street vendor as a kid, but he seemed injury prone

Bassey has 4 days left on his 2nd 10-day with Philly. I'd definitely sign him if Philly doesn't give him a full deal. By my count Philly has 2 open roster spots right now once Bassey and Spurs Legend Patrick Baldwin Jr's 10-day deals expire. I understand they want to use one of those spots for Spurs Legend Offspring, Jabari Walker. I don't know why Philly would want to sign Bassey to the rest of the reason, but they might. Philly already has like 5 other centers on their roster.

Bassey speaks French, right? F@ck I’m in!

National Language of Nigeria, and of St. Anthony Catholic HS in San Antonio, is English (barely for the latter)... so I don't think so.

Olynyk isn't playing already, CB and Harper don't get enough playing time. The roster has to be filled with young players in development who you can't keep indefinitely on the bench and veterans who agree to play garbage time.

It's not good for team chemistry to have players who hope to play, earn their place, and never get their chance. Nobody wants Tonya Harding on their team.

Putting together a roster isn't like putting together an All-Star game or a fantasy league. It's about creating a group where everyone has a role.
Horrible justification. F-minus.

I'm not calling for the Spurs to go out and try to get Jokic to be our third string C... but rather someone at least semi-capable of filling in when called upon. Bismack ain't that (as evidenced by the fact we don't even use him as a third string C. At this point, Harrison Barnes is our third-string C). There are lot of options who would be better.

theyve shown he seems to do a lot of 1 on 1 stuff with wemby, but they can just hire him to be part of the coaching staff if thats going to be the extent of his contributions

if there is zero interest in getting him on the court, even in emergency situations where wemby/kornet have been unavailable, then there's no good justification for him being on the 15

Enforce what from where? He never plays and he definitely aint a Beef Stew type to leave the bench and square up like he did against the hornets :st-lol:

Dudes probably 50 years old anyway. I wouldn't even ask it of him.

The main issue with Biyombo is that Olynyk isn't looking good.

If Olynyk can get back at a level that would make him a good 3rd string center, having Biyonbo as 15th player wouldn't be a big deal.

Regarding Kelly not looking good. How is anyone going to look good with spot minutes and multiple DNPs in a row. The same thing happened to Jeremy. It’s difficult to look good with scare opportunity. That said, cut Biyombo already

You cant just slot anyone to 3rd center. You have to find willing players who know they wont get minutes. Biyombo is trash but overspending on bigs is a mismanagement!. We need PF depth more even if carter bryant shows out. Wemby is the forever C and an exspensive player. We will always have garbage C depth because of budget and availability

That's just not true about having to have garbage C depth...there are plenty of 3rd string guys that are tiers above what we have.... we've talked about quite a few that are available...

Really wish we had Micah Potter on a two-way...clearly more upside than Ingram. Would rather have him as 15th man than Biyombo too
Just wanted to reiterate this.
Potter is putting up 7.5/4.3/1.5 + 0.7 stocks in under 20mpg on .464/.375/.881 splits. TS% would be 2nd on the team behind Luke, Reb% 4th behind KJ, he is 5th on the Pacers in WS in only 408 minutes. This guy is not a stud, low ceiling but an actual NBA ceiling.
This isn't an I told you so thing at all, he just as easily could've proven a stiff--but he had exponentially more potential to be useful than say Ingram.
Time to stop roster "good locker room" only guys, emergency 6th string backups (JMac has 0 chance to play meaningful mins ahead of Fox/Steph/Harp/KJ/DV), absolute nothing talents (fucking Harrison Ingram).

We came into the yr with two guys- BB and Ingram-- that have no chance to NBA players moving forward. Sochan, Oly, LW3 & DJG all had at least theoretical upside. JMac, maybe not but he could shoot and 2 of our PGs were questions marks coming in. But moving forward they aren't.

Reaves, Reid, Caruso, VanVleet, Dort, McConnell= undrafted guys.
Brooks, Camara, Herb Jones= 2nd rounders.
Stop fucking drafting the Nunezs and Ingrams, and rostering BBs or even JMac, start fucking swinging and rostering someone with some upside. LW3 and DJG at least have theoretical upside/elite potential. We have a free roster spot, go fucking get someone with some upside. We have now cleared all the tanking flotsam and have a real team/roles for the first time in years.

We now have plenty of chemistry, plenty of vets, plenty emergency overlap. Go fucking sign someone for free with at least marginal upside, cuz sometimes that turns into Caruso or Dort or Camara.
Go fucking grab Highsmith for Sochan's spot, go find literally anyone that can catch a ball to replace BB, go buy Ingram a ticket to China where he may be able to make a team.

Can't believe y'all gonna make me stan for Biyombo but I'll play MATFO's advocate tbh.

There's just a fundamental difference between being a player and an assistant coach. It can be a similar relationship but it's not just the same when you're talking about road trips, locker room shit, etc. Hearing shit from a teammate is just different than hearing them from an "assistant coach" tbh. It's why guys like Udonis Haslem / Nick Collison were given token roster spots long after their utility as an actual NBA player expired.

On the court, Bismack is absolutely terrible and clearly shouldn't be seeing any meaningful mins. But MATFO think highly enough of his off the court impact that he's worth a roster spot.

The bigger issue is Olynyk getting paid 13mil to wave a towel and BWrong not turning his expiring into a useful player at the deadline tbh.

Love you Bruno, but what kind of backwoods logic is this?!?

"Biyombo being so terrible wouldn't be as bad if someone else weren't also terrible?"

Man it's too bad Kelly isn't Jokic, because then I might have a shot to be the Spurs' 15th man. :st-lol:

Olynyk is 5th highest paid player on the team, cmon @scott :st-lol:

If the argument that Biyombo is the best we can do because no one better will be willing to come to an ascending team with the face of the league... then we're even more of a moribund franchise than any of us ever thought :st-lol:

This is just cope. There are dozens of min-salary guys out there. You're gonna try to tell me we cut Micah Potter because he was unwilling to accept Biyombo's role?
