Analysis GRADES: Oct 27, 2025 - Spurs 121 Raptors 103

High volume from 3 is great for the regular season.

Low volume from 3 is great for the playoffs. The game changes so much when it comes to the playoffs.

OKC last year shot 39 pg from 3, 35 in POs that's still high volume then you have some last winners GSW who shot 39 in RS, 37 in POs, Celtics 44 in RS 40 in POs and Bucks 37 and 35.. The one exception in recent year has been Nuggets that shot 30 pg both rs and po. So yes teams shot less from 3s in POs but still in high volume.

The traditional view of live and die by the 3 don't work in POs is a thing of the past tbh...

Take the pacing from each of their teams, and compare it to this year’s Spurs’ pacing. All of those teams don’t have Vic, who by default, will have a slower pace than most teams because of his style of play (because he is more of a half court player than a transition one) = lower 3pt attempts forever until he retires.

The 3pt rate with Vic will always be opportunistic than a run and gun one on a team where the PG or strong ballhandler (or just not a center) is the cornerstone.

That is why the Nuggets are your “exception”. They have a center as their cornerstone, similar to the Spurs.

I get your point it would be interesting to translate this pace in 3s pts shooting differential attempts but in all cases my point remains. I think we are fine now but I have my doubts and concerns for when everybody is healthy and/or one of few shooters is injured and in the POs.

We are at 29 FGAs from 3s per game with Vassell taking 7,5 per game.. Barnes, Castle and Champ are at 4 per game. Fox and Sochan will be back meaning less time for Vassell Barnes and Champ assuming Castle will keep his minutes. More importantly with those 2 we will have even more guys wanting to operate near the rim which is now Victor game, Harper game, Castle game, KJ game... The team needs spacing and we are missing shooting.

Let's see what happens vs. the Heat this should be a good challenge before testing the waters fully healthy against say the rockets.

The Spurs will have to shoot and make more threes eventually. They are now 23rd in the league in 3PTr, sitting at .355, last year they finished #8 at .441. Granted, not all good teams shoot a lot 3s and not teams that shoot a lot 3s are good (Nets was #3 last year, Bulls 5, Jazz 7, we were 8, Suns, Wizards, Hornets, and 76ers were all in the top half. While Nuggets were dead last, Knicks at 28, and OKC was on #16), but for a team that needs the paint to operate well, having a 3pt game as a release valve or a threat will just open up everything.

Note, last year, the Nuggets were #4 in ORtg, OKC 3rd, Knicks 5, despite their relatively low 3PTr, so here's looking to MATFO to create a decent offensive system.

A core of Victor, Castle, Fox and Harper needs 3&D dudes and more 3 than D tbh.. I prefer right now a 3 guy without D than the contrary. To be provocative for this team at this moment Barnes>>Sochan.
Yeah I am also wondering how much of a role Sochan would have on this roster when it's at full strength. The paint is already so crowded and will be even moreso when Fox returns. The Spurs are starving for shooters if Harper and Castle can't shoot 3s at a decent clip.

We haven't seen Sochan at all yet since last season so who knows how his development went. But without a 3 pt shot, he will end up with less minutes than last year.
