I want the Spurs to stay. And I understand the argument that people are tired of the city being lame and inferior - and letting the Spurs leave would be a move in that direction.
But, the city is lame and inferior because among many reasons, historically, the politicians find ways to screw things up and build shit like they are swinging for home runs.
Like, I think the idea of a year round rodeo is preposterous and Plan A seems stupid to me and a huge waste of money. Once a year, sure. More than that, that's not my dream of a better San Antonio nor the one being sold in Prop B.
All the vague development around the new proposed arena will likely be an inflated mess because there is no real plan yet.
So, on one hand I'm glad we're closer to keeping the Spurs. But if anyone is expecting more than the Spurs back in downtown, I think disappointment will be coming.
Yes, a dour post because I think there is no simple victory with this proposal, as much as people want to think there is. If the mayor wasn't such a horrible communicator, there could have been a more substantive conversation about the issue and how to secure more of an actual deal that people would be voting for.
