Game Thread Playoffs Round 2, Game 1: Spurs vs Timberwolves (0-0) (Mon 05/04/2026) [8:30 CDT]

You're right to an extent, but the nature of the inexperience is that it probably means you lose a series you should win. I think that's just a reality. We'll see though, I still think the Spurs should win this series. I think ultimately I will understand if they fuck it up, but I will be disappointed too. I guess it would depend on how they responded to fucking it up and if they came back stronger next year.
This is the matchup I really feared which is one thing that kept me from being livid at blowing that final game to Denver, figuring they'd rough each other up in that first round. Which they did. IDK to me this series becomes a coin flip when you condition on being down a game. Spurs are the more talented team for sure and DiVincenzo being out for the season definitely makes the matchup less scary than it would have been otherwise, but not having a PF who has any chance against Randle and Reid is rough. Fox has to destroy Conley to make up for that handicap the team has at PF.

Guys, relax. Obviously the vibes were off the whole game AND we still had a chance to win. I think we're the better team. We just need to hit some 3s and stop making stupid fouls on defense.

Any word on if CB will be back for game 2?

We need to find Wemby inside like we were against Portland. Castle Fox Harper need to find ways to get Wemby going under the rim for easy buckets and alleyoops. He shouldn’t have to run from the 3 pt line and dunk to get his buckets. It’s on Wemby also to be aggressive in the paint and call for the ball and stop shooting weak 3s when his shot isn’t falling. He needs to make good runs and free himself or his teammates

Gonna have to hope the games being every other day outside game 6 benefits the Spurs going forward. If Conley continues to shit on Fox then count me in the camp of trading him this offseason tbh.

I refuse to get on social media until Wednesday’s game tbh. I absolutely cannot handle seeing T-Wolves fans gloat (as they rightfully should) or other fanbases dunk on Wemby for the next 48 hours :st-lol:
you should enjoy it tbh, since we're obviously going to destroy them

But remember the young guys we have are going to get better. This is not a fully formed squad in terms of the talent.
For sure. When Harper starts hitting his prime in 2-3 years and Wemby's a vet with better offensive awareness and shot selection this team is going to be a bastard to deal with even though they're not likely to have the kind of depth they do now thanks to the aprons. But man I'm greedy and want it now too. :st-lol:

That’s the thing. We’re only going to be able to have this kind of depth when Wemby/castle/harper are on rookie contracts. I feel like not enough people understand this.

Then it is what it is, a disappointing season. expectations can rise as the season goes on, these are millionaire professionals that are the best at their craft. I refuse to call it a good outcome if no ring
From 1998 to 2017 they failed fifteen times out of twenty to win a ring. We all of course remember those days as an era of failure and disappointment.

Only need your opponents PF to tear his hamstring in the WCF and the finals MVP to rupture his achilles in game 7 of the finals 😛

we’ll never get that fraudulent luck, the type they’ve parlayed into being able to play prison ball on defense and having the best whistle of the 21st century.
I was thinking that during the game too. No way do the refs let Minny play defense like they did against us on the thunder.

Lol you damn well know Wemby still gonna be chucking 3's and his paint game will still be barging in from the 3-point line.

Thats the crux of problem that Mitch didn’t fix whole year.

1st he dont have smarts to get into sweet spots near rim.

Even he was they don’t find a way to get wemby going… Today as well he was there and Castle has thrown to Harper for corner 3… We need a veteran coach.. TBH

I mean the Spurs literally lost in the second round before four of their five championships.
Haha my first thought reading that post was how good I felt about the team after losing to Utah 4-1 in the second round of 98. Don't know why the 4-1 loss to LA in 02, the 4-2 loss to LA in 04, and the 4-3 loss to Dallas in 06 didn't jump out at me lol.

CB with his on-man defense and energy would be nice. Still I expect Wemby going ballistic next game and send T-Pup running with their tails tucked under their legs. Let’s goooo!!!

On a contrary, its the 2nd season for Mitch.

If he didn’t show any improvement and not developing players to their true strengths, do we really need to continue him or go with Kerr who can right away win with loaded roster?
The organization prides itself on a family type culture. Hence management is unlikely to make the right call to ditch the bitch… I mean Mitch. I’ll be shocked if they decide to hire an experienced head coach.

If they draft well and stop selling second rounders for cash they can maintain depth. Remains to be seen how BWrong will do on that front though.

Bottoming out and getting wemby is his biggest accomplishment.

Fox trade was ostensibly a steal but..yeah..you see how it’s working out.

Outside the obvious picks he did well selecting CB at 14, Keldon at 29, and Tre Jones at 41. However, there's been far more misses than hits tbh.
