Game Thread Playoffs Round 2, Game 1: Spurs vs Timberwolves (0-0) (Mon 05/04/2026) [8:30 CDT]

Also while we shot like shit from 3, the box score doesn't tell shot quality on those shots. We actually shot well on catch and shoot. But Wemby took so many fucking awful 3s. Fox took a couple of awful ones too. Those are possession they just gifted away.

Its a lot easier to look like you played great defense when the other team takes shitty shots to make your job easier.

Keldon was absolute trash. His defense sucked harder than the worst porn star
My favorite take is that Keldon was in the game over Champ because of his size/physicality, only for Champ to almost win us the game with his rebounding, while Keldon had 2 in 23 minutes.
Even fucking Barnes had 4 in 10 minutes.

I think the shot was fine. The problem is I think Jules is very anti-clutch.

But it’s kind of a catch 22 when he was the only reason we were in that position. So we were also technically riding the “hot hand”.

Stop talking about the lack of PF.
We're playing against one of the best teams in the league, of course that they're going to have some advantages over us.
We contained those advantages fairly well, it's not like Randle and Naz killed us.

The issue is that we didn't capitalize on the advantages we're supposed to have.
They decided to put McDaniels on Castle and Fox made Shannon and Conley like they're 1st team all-defense.
It's not even about him missing shots, but not being able to create an advantage, make the right reads and collapse the defense.
He also made at least 3 terrible, momentum swing turnovers that cost us the game.

One thing that can really piss me off about Fox is that for a point guard at times his handle is straight trash.

And at this point, I think it’s time to cut Harrison out of the rotation. This game called for CB.
It was the point to cut this fucker out back in January when I said CB should start.

F me. When are the coaching staff going to fucking wake up. CB should have had his minutes and more starting February if they wanted to give HB a chance to shoot his way out of it in January. I still stand on that hill about it being the most egregious thing Mitch has done all season.

After tonight, I'm really questioning if Mitch is a terrible coach.
You'll think he ever thought about telling Vic and Fox to maybe stop taking terrible shots with 18 seconds left on the clock?
The whole game was play 18-24 seconds of great D, only to piss the next possession away in 8 seconds or less.
At least Harp, Champ, and Keldon showed up. We played a terrible, sloppy, frantic offensive game and had a great chance to take the W.

This is going 7 games, unless Mitch mitches it up
I know it looked pretty when Victor ran by Gobert for the dunk but constantly giving him the ball at the three point line to attack off the dribble is a recipe for disaster and had me pulling out my non-existent hair the entire game. The team just refused to run anything in the high post for Victor and he played young and dumb thinking I really am 7'6" Durant when he needs to be 7'6" Garnett on the offensive end.

Wemby just doesnt have a developed offensive game yet. Kind of frustrating to see him still play like an out of control baby giraffe throwing up random shots to see what hits. I really can't believe he still takes the ball off the dribble at the 3 pt line even if it worked out a couple times.

Would think by his third year, he would know how to get to his spots better and not just at the 3 pt line. And obviously getting 12 blocks in a game tires him out.

The Spurs played much further below their potential than the Wolves did and still nearly won.

Theres no such thing as a good playoff loss but I'm not jumping off the cliff. Yet. Lose game 2 and it's look out below.
Yeah, no good loss. But a great learning experience. Vic should be humbled and embarrassed going 0-8 from deep, crazy he did it with one of the best D performances ever.
I think Steph learned what calls he's not gonna get and what (bs) he will be called for.

All those mistakes, bad decisions, out of control play, and we win if either Vic or Fox just hit one more shot. They won't go 10-31, 0-12, with 9 TOs again. Both played terrible on O and we were still right there, like one BS foul call away from taking it.
Learn and grow.

some of us have talked about the lack of PF for a long time to help Wemby in defense. Randle and Naz combined for 33 points and 19 rebounds. Champagnie had a good game but he is not enough

You go for the two because it can be a number of things - lay-up, dunk, mid range or draw the foul and shoot free throws. I get Champ was open, but a timeout would have settled things.

Said coming in the Spurs were gonna have to win all their home games in this series to win it if Ant was 70%+. They've been a tough matchup for the Spurs for years. Figured the Spurs got lucky with their injuries but they have great depth and a much better coach than the Spurs.
Fair enough on your analysis this series. I guess the reason I made that comment towards you is because I still have it in my head with you saying Phoenix will beat the Spurs in round 1. I just thought you're giving up before the games/series even starts. Fair comments on this series with Ant being back already.

Tbh I try to leave my hyperboles behind once the game ends but I legit think it’s fair to say we win this game if Fox just didn’t play. Maybe foul trouble gets us but he was legitimately a one man 10 point swing it felt like

I already hate that guy shannon tbh 😂
Game was there for the taking, but we play sloppy and shot really Bad, especially from 3 😒 Fox looks scared right there, he is supossed to be one of the veterans of this team. I feel the pain fellas, but this Lost was needed if we want to improve, and be more ready for whats to come, i still think we are the better team, but we need to show it , we can't play right on their hands again, i think we make them look better than they are , imo

Yeah, it’s a wake up. Call. Watch the ugly game film, clean it up. And I think Minnesota comes in somewhat satisfied on Wednesday also. They got a game.

Single coverage while Julius plays linebacker down low isn’t gonna work we gotta double him and make someone else beat us
Could Plumlee being brought off his encrusted bench spot be useful vs Randle.

I didn't make the roster Im just asking.

The 2nd half turnovers were extremely frustrating because they were just stupid passes and lack of concentration plays. This team wasn't prepared tonight. Fitch came in with a game plan despite not being the one with a week to go.

I just can't emphasize how much I am disappointed in what we saw out of the Spurs offensively and I'm not talking about shooting percentages. I have defended this team all year from unfair criticism but tonight Wemby and Mitch are the worst offenders. Fox looked lost at times too, but I put that more on Mitch than Fox.

Also for the love of god please do not have Castle slow dibble up against McDaniels pressure. We have options. We do not need to do that.
