Game Thread Playoffs Round 2, Game 1: Spurs vs Timberwolves (0-0) (Mon 05/04/2026) [8:30 CDT]

I’m not expecting him to make much of an impact whatsoever. That knee has been all jacked up for like two months now. He’s not healthy. At all.
I wouldn't even play. It's not like they will beat OKC without a healthy version of Edwards and no Donte. But I guess I'm just use to the Spurs being overly cautious.

Gonna come down to how the early part of the series plays out imo. If the Spurs win the first two games they prolly hold him out for game 3 to see if the home crowd can carry the T'Pups to a win. If not they shut him down, if they do they prolly throw the dice and at least play him game 4. OTOH, if the T'Pups steal a game in SA he comes back for game 3 100%.

It was unfortunate that TD and KG only met in the playoffs once. It should've happened in 2004; that would've been epic.
They actually met twice in the playoffs, 1999 and 2001. That 1999 series was when KG told TD Happy Mother's Day, knowing TD had lost his mom.

Would be a waste for them to put him on Fox imo. I think Castle will dominate the Gobert matchup since he got used to being guarded by Cs in the first round. OTOH, I think he'd struggle against McDaniels. I also think McDaniels will ultimately be their best bet against Wemby. Not to mention they won't have an answer for Vassell with Ant and DVV being out; the loss of those two really limits their options defensively. Again, fully healthy the Spurs would struggle against the T'Pups in the half court on both ends imo.
hmmm hard disagree i wont lie he weighs the same as fox, him on wemby would be free eats like he's getting bumped off everytime

There's no rivalry with the T'Pups yet so I doubt we see much trash talking unless this becomes a long series tbh. If anything, it seems like there's a lot of respect both ways imo.
yeah this I think there will be much less of the heat between the two sides, I think fox and ant are maybe friends or at least friendly have seen both talk about mutual admiration, and ant seems to have a lot of respect for what wemby is doing

8m
Gobert is 100 times the defender Sengun is tbh, and he's gotten better at defending the perimeter. Not saying the Spurs won't be able to use it against him, but Gobert/Finch will absolutely adjust.
Gobert is a paint defender, but has most of the same flaws as Sengün in space.

That '99 series with Minnesota was the launching pad for the Spurs' first championship run.

The Spurs lost Game 2 at home and thereby lost home court in a short best of five series.

All the commentators said "same old Spurs" at that point -- all Minny had to do was win two at home and the #1 seed Spurs would be sent home, underachieving once again

Instead, the Spurs won both in Minny and started a 12 game playoff winning streak that still may be a record -- 2 vs. Minny, 4 game sweep of the Lakers, 4 game sweep of Portland in the WCF and the first two of the NBA Finals against the Knicks.

So they do have some positive playoff history with the Wolves going into this one.

Feels like we’re underestimating the Wolves. Say what you want about Denver but a depleted wolves team eliminated a fairly healthy Denver team.
Nuggets were missing their only two good defenders and Timberwolves just kept attacking the rim, their 3pt shooting is nothing special without Edwards and Dinvincenzo.

Spurs fans are severely underestimating their team and especially Wemby.

Minny's only real shot here is to out-dog the Spurs and be the more physical team. They will be able to execute better at times due to coaching and experience, but, they aren't going to be outplaying us for 25 mins unless we severely fuck up. The predictability of our coaching could be a factor in tight games, but, we are also a very adaptive team with versatile pieces to win in a lot of matchups. I can see Wemby really taking Rudy outback and putting him down as a natural course of his evolution.

Randle is a problem for us. Exposes our greatest weakness, size at the PF position. They play much better defense than Portland and discovered 3 additional big-time scorers in McDaniels, Ayo and Shannon. They will be a problem.

No. If he can play he will play. That's how these players are. They're competitive.

He probably wont be able to play for at least another week to 2 weeks minimum

As long as January Spurs don't show up, laying enough bricks to build a trump ballroom, this should be over in 4 or 5. Spurs team that shows up and shoots well wins.

Spurs in 4, maybe 5. If Ant returns, maybe they win one more game, but the Wolves don't have a chance in this series with all their injuries, unless the spurs beat themselves, imo. Denver lose that series because they are all bad defenders (like Mcdaniels say), and never adjust, their only decent defender is Aaron Gordon and he did'n play that much. And lets not underestimate us, the spurs would have beaten Denver too if we would have meet.

I just can’t imagine Ant coming back from the injury that quickly unless they shoot him up with all the pain killers (which they might). Playing through a bone bruise is nasty business. He would essentially be coming back to just be a decoy considering both knees are compromised right now.
