Game Thread Playoffs Round 1, Game 5: Spurs vs Blazers (3-1) (Tue 04/28/2026) [8:00 CDT]

Awwww. On that note. We gotta bring back the Klaw next year because he's done with the Clippers especially as he did literally everything right on an otherwise putrid team only for them to still just miss the playoffs. Idk if Harper would change his number but it'd be nice to see Kawhi end his career where it started and him be instrumental to another ring with us before he retires, which is sooner than later considering his injury history.

I think we could get him reasonably cheap on our end, similar to Finley in 2005/06 because the Clippers would be paying the majority of his contract/buyout. I assume?

And for people who hate on Kawhi: The Spurs were going nowhere with him in 2018/2019 anyway as the supporting cast was putrid post-DPG, and without Kawhi leaving we never get to draft Wemby, Castle, and Harper. Part of him leaving was wanting to play in his hometown for some years, which he did, but another part was he didn't want to be part of a sinking ship/rebuilding team and trading him was mandatory for the tank.

I say he's gotten to live a pretty fun and rewarding career and life. Almost DPOY as a rookie, won a championship with team that drafted him, got to play with the 2nd greatest NBA player of all time for several years, made some cool friends, got to lead and win Canada's only pro sports championship in the 21st century, then got to play for his hometown underdog team and lead them for many years. Coming back home would complete the arc and he'd win at least one last title here with the team who drafted him and many fans here still love him and have his jersey, including me.
Crickets…

Outscore them by 38 in both halves. RGMers were trying to suggest the Spurs trade Castle for Avdija before the series, and the consensus was that SA should be willing to add multiple first-rounders to get Portland to bite. Ugh. I'm not the leader of Steph's fan club, but I swear folks want the team to dump him or Harper for any reason.
Castle has huge value and is tracking to become a max salary player. It will be interesting to see whether any of these potential max guys decide to give us a hometown discount to keep playing together and for how long if so. If they win a title soon, a strong argument can be made for our core four to stick together and not all demand the max.

I’ll add that everyone seems to view Fox as an expensive but brief rental. Maybe his last year he can extend for less per year RJ style?

I guess its a good thing game is on ESPN because they have a few hundred channels and if this game runs into OT- espn will start the spurs game on one of their other espn channels…

I brought this up in game 4. I wonder sometimes if one basket is screwy. When I see both teams shooting lights out on one end of the court, but both struggling on the other half, it makes me wonder.

The basket that had Portland the 17 point halftime lead, was the same basket that the Spurs scored 73 second half points. The basket that the Spurs struggled to score in the first half, only gave up 35 to Portland in the second half.

I have seen this trend happen a lot this season.
