Game Thread Playoffs Round 1, Game 3: Blazers vs Spurs (1-1) (Fri 04/26/2026) [9:30 CDT]

Portland scored 43 in the 2nd half.

This team wins with their defense tbh. Huge props to the small ball lineup for competing and gang rebounding...

Once the flukey stuff stopped falling, the guys had the Blazers in a straight jacket, big shout out to CB for stonewalling a ton of 2nd half drives.
I kept saying that shit.

These niggas gotta regress to the mean at some point.

That was basically the change.

Assuming Wemby can go in game 4, I'd legit bring him off the bench tbh. Feels like the SL has been playing well with Kornet's more traditional big-man play (setting screens, punishing smaller defenders, etc) while Wemby should be able to take Timelord out of the game with his extreme height advantage (Wemby is nearly a foot taller than him). Obviously you can sub him in quickly if it doesn't work out.

:lol who the fuck is Timelord? I keep laughing but I can't figure it out. I'm sure it'll be obvious when someone points it out.

Robert Williams. Nickname given to him by Celtics fans when he played there.

We need a gif from that above the basket angle, @LakerHater .

I'm still worried about Keldon. I don't think it will get easier for him either.

IIRC it was a family thing. His older brother Ron Harper Jr also went Rutger
Yeah, I am pretty sure he said he wanted to go there because of his brother going there. Anyway, who cares where he went.

Did anyone else see the excited fist pump by Dwayne Wade of the broadcast team, after Dylan Harper made an important play? Maybe it was after the dunk?
Nah, I didn't see it.

I really didn't understand the Castle questioning in the first half, empty stats blah blah...

They've been putting fucking Clingan and Robert Williams on him, he has to be aggressive. I trust this mfer in big games more than anybody besides the Alien tbh. Dude is a dawg.
I thought Steph was trying his hardest in the first half. I thought this kid was showing he's not afraid of the moment and was trying his hardest. Yeah, sometimes he doesn't play smart, but it's not because he's scared of the moment. Sometimes, he takes it all upon himself to try and do it all.

I agree. His -20 was cause he was on the court with players who's balls shriveled up. Without him keeping us afloat until big dick dylan arrived this would have been a blowout.
Yep. Exactly right IMO.

Honestly, I think that challenge with Fox ended up changing the game. Avdija was pretty much doing whatever he wanted and getting the whistle before that. The refs really seemed to stop reacting to Deni's head-jerking after that.
Great call pointing that out. That was huge IMO. Forgot about that, but I remembering thinking at the time it was big.

This win reminds me that this team is a 3-guards offense with a dominant shot blocker. Nothing against Wemby but until he gets so much stronger, the offense needs to start from the guards attacking imo.
I get worried at times with Victor fucking up the offense. I'm not saying to take him out of it, though, but a bit more balance would be nice. I mean, maybe the guards got out of form and flow because Victor played in nearly all those games the last two months, so they go used to running the offense through him? Maybe that's what it was and they had to readjust and just weren't ready for it that Denver game and Game 2 of the playoffs. Not saying that is the whole reason, but might have played a small part.

This issue is that literally every championship level team has good size on the wings so it's not like that is going to get any easier going forward. That is sort of a required thing in todays nba.

Devin was fine defensively but one of the reasons why the offense was in such a slog until Harper came and saved the day is because he didn't make shots you need players like him to make if you are really trying to be a championship level team.
Yeah, Devin has to be better on offense and make more of those shots. He played great defensively and also went for rebounds which was huge, just gotta keep that up on defense and step it up a bit more on offense.

Dylan going at Scoot was the turning point in this game. I feel Scoot has been playing with too much swag in this series which has allowed him to play out of his ass. Once Dylan started going aggressively at him that's when Scoot's confidence started to fade and then he started to brick the shots that he was making prior to Dylan going at him.
Fucking sick that Dylan was the guy that got him off his game a little bit. Dylan playing great, but also, getting Scoot off his game was just as big.

They shouldn't get overconfident and think they don't need Wemby to win this series. If he clears, he needs to play.
You don't try doing silly stuff that you might do in regular season in playoff games, you just don't. If he's good to go, he plays IMO.

Dylan was already hooping in the 3rd before this
Yea he started going off around the 4-min mark in the 3rd and it carried over into the 4th. Scoot was talking shit to him throughout the 3rd though and the what we saw at the end of it was it boiling over.

Was just a ridiculous Tech by Scoot. Cant let your emotions get the best of you like that shaving off a point.

Dylan is a master rage baiter

That steal of Dani’s pass by Harper is turning point of the game.

They went scoreless for extended period of time from there.
That was a big play too. The game was filled with them. Not sure you can say one play did it all, but yeah, that was a big one. I love that D-Harp plays defense. I didn't know he'd be this good on defense when the Spurs drafted him.

Mitch had been coaching a horrible series up to that point as well tbh. Hope this is him turning a corner; would be huge for his development as an NBA HC.
Yes, if this could be a turning point for Mitch too, that would be even better. I really do believe the young guys played a big part in bailing him out a little bit.

Dude, I was saying the game was over like 10 times in the thread. The game was going like shit and we had pretty much nobody playing well except for Steph. This team has tons of grit and heart. We do need to stop underestimating them.
It's because they hadn't done it in the playoffs yet. This is the playoffs and they haven't been here or done it yet, but yeah, we should have had more belief in the guys at the start of the game. They haven't quit all season.

Dylan was already hooping in the 3rd before this
He was, but I do think that got Dylan even more locked in.

Jrue has these shooting games. We survived that. I think we just fully took control of this series. We've taken Sharp out of this series, and will Wemby likely back, Clingan will be run off the floor as well.

Everyone is raving about scoot, and I get it. But they are just ignoring that he is only scoring in isolation. His shot is falling and I wonder what happens when his shot isn't falling. He isnt getting to the line. He isn't creating shots for his team mates.
