Game Thread Playoffs Round 1, Game 3: Blazers vs Spurs (1-1) (Fri 04/26/2026) [9:30 CDT]

Given his head injury, the cabin pressure during a flight might pose a greater risk than playing in a game.
Unless he hits his head again, lol

But yes, if he is medically cleared and feels good enough to play, then of course he should play. I don't think anyone is (seriously) suggesting otherwise.

Thing we have to remember is it’s not up to him. He has to be cleared by the NBA itself.

I think it’s game 4. So time to step up guards.
If I understood the protocol correctly at 48 hours (later this evening) he is examined again and if the Spurs docs clear him they wait on the NBA to clear which I would like to assume could be sometime tomorrow before the game. Everything we heard today looks very positive. Its more of wishful thinking on my part. Im pretty sure hes going to miss tomorrow but will be ready for Sunday.

If he is cleared great. Honestly, it could be 50-50 at this stage of the game for Friday.

My understanding of the concussion protocol is no activity for 24 hours. Then you can start protocol testing. No games for 48 hours after the player entered protocol.

So Wemby would be doing his testing since this morning or last night.

With Wembanyama seeming likely by 4 barring a setback, that should put the Spurs in a much better mind frame for 3. Still don't know how they survive 20ish non Kornet minutes in a best case scenario, but they need to dust off the corpse of Plumlee or even Olynyk early and see if they're up for it.

but he did not have a concussion.
He likely sustained a concussion—based on the footage, it’s hard to see how he wouldn’t have after a fall like that lasting 10–15 seconds.

The concern isn’t just the risk of another concussion. At a high level of competition, even a mild one can affect balance and coordination, which increases the likelihood of other injuries. Given Wemby’s frame, there’s no reason to rush him back.

Wemby traveling to Portland is a huge psychological boost for his teammates. Even if he doesn't play G3 the other players know he traveled and might be good by G4 so they can throw everything on the fire for one game without him.

I would add Carter Bryant to that equation, high energy guy, probably one of the most athletic players on our team, we could definitely use his body to help with defensive rebounds, specially considering Portland’s inefficiency with the three-pointer (long shot, long rebound)

Can't believe they didn't forcefully tank the last game against us to get an easier matchup vs the quitting and dysfunctional Rockets knowing how many health red flags they had..

Teams with Championship aspirations don't try to game the seeding for an easier path. Not sure how many times you guys need to hear this.

Lottery team mindsets in here.

I mean, they pretty much did. We just couldn’t take advantage :st-lol: They sat every meaningful player aside from Jokic, and only played him the bare minimum 15 minutes. Aside from outright telling players to miss shots or stop caring, there wasn’t much more they could do to lose that game.

Feeling like 50/50 he plays tomorrow tbh…trying not to get my hopes up but I really think he has a legitimate shot at suiting up.

If we come out this Wemby concussion unscathed. All of a sudden you look at the West.Edwards dealing with a nagging knee injury, J-Dubb dealing with hamstring issues, Gordon dealing with calf issues. Spurs would be in good shape to take advantage.

Tip off at 9:30 CT would mean there is more than 72 hours have passed since the concussive hit occurred (Tue circa 7:45 CT)..Spurs got massively lucky with the timeframe of this unfortunate incident allowing them to finish off all test/evaluation procedures before the tip off of next game..

Everyone has had takes about whether Monsieur Alien will play tomorrow. I do think him not playing tomorrow could do his teammates some good. Thrown into the fire without the potential best player in the NBA with no net. If he's 100% then no problem, however that hit to the floor has not even been 48 hours.
