Game Thread Playoffs Round 1, Game 2: Spurs vs Blazers (1-0) (Tue 04/21/2026) [7:00 CDT]

Reffing wasn’t great but wasn’t the reason they choked tonight tbh. They swallowed the whistle on some Portland drives as well but the Spurs just seemed like the more frustrated team. Gotta get past it especially on the road.

The blazers and Deni getting a generational whistle almost like the nba wants this to be an extended series. It’s funny the refs knew they missed a blatant foul on the spurs on one end so they purposefully swallowed their whistle on a missed foul on a Clingan dunk (where Tiago got that tech). It was obvious they couldn’t call that foul on the spurs or it would be to clear who they’re favoring.

They missed a third of their freebies tonight. That's the game right there (along with choking away a 14 point lead in the fourth) tbh. Unfortunately its been a trend all season.

Throughout the season, I’ve been consistently pointing out that the free throw shooting will be one of the main things that derail the team’s postseason and it was a definite factor tonight.

Another pattern emerging; Mitch might just not be a good ATO play coach. Can't remember any good plays he drew all season-long for a must-have bucket..Pop in his mid 70s was still able to get guys a good shot here and there when they needed one. All i'm seeing out of Mitch is predictable low-quality ISOs..

I stopped watching on the Williams And1 a few minutes ago. I guess the Spurs lost.

What a horrendous way for the season to end. Spurs could be coming back home in a 3-1 hole.

I had flashbacks of Kawhi getting hurt in game 1 against the Warriors and the team just couldn't hold the lead and threw it away. It felt exactly the same and looks like it was the same outcome. The Basketball gods are collecting. Given us injury prone players since the TD era.

I wish we were able to draft Cooper Flagg.

Keldon Johnson as I expected, fucking giving the Spurs nothing in the playoffs. If you're 6th man worthy, this is the time to have stepped up. As I've said so many times, the guy's catapult shot won't hold up in the playoffs.

Fox, putrid. Steph, can't shoot for shit. What a terrible outcome.

I forgot to say, Steph had a turnover late in the game that I think cost the game. I think it led to a 3.

Devin and Kornet gave it all they had, though.

He is a avg coach.

We gave away like what 10 games with 10+ points lead this season. So far he hasn’t showed a single game he can coach in clutch.

And we dont have an O philosophy. No one passes the ball or play for each other.

I've been saying this for a long time. Keldon is not a playoff player. I want to be wrong because he needs to be for us to win it all.

This is why I think Fox should be the sixth man. He should be given the green light to shoot every time he's in the game. He's allowed to be a ballhog. Everybody else can set up for him because he's a scorer. He's Jamal Crawford and that's what the Spurs need at some point instead of putting him in a rotation as a starter just for status so that he ends up out of rhythm at the end of the game. A damn sure don't want him defending Denny one-on-one.
Fox will be a 6th man in due course. Probably in two seasons time.

Biggest issue so far this series outside the Wemby concussion and Scoot looking like Jordan has been Timelord tbh. Need to find a way to counter his impact now that the Spurs will most likely be down to Kornet.
Safe to say Scoot outplaying our guards wasn't on anyone's bingo card. If it stays that way, i think Portland might actually win the series because I don't see Wemby back until game 5, and even then he will still be dazed and tentative.

It's 1-1, is this your first time watching the NBA playoffs?

Sometimes I wonder if you guys jumped on the bandwagon after the five championships.
What do you mean is it my first time? Spurs haven't looked that great in games 1 and 2 (they're darn lucky they're playing Portland and I feel like I'm disrespecting the Blazers now by saying that). They haven't really brought the playoff intensity. Victor could be out games 3 and 4, or even further. The Moda center fans will be out for blood. This is a young team that could very easily buckle.

Have you watched an NBA playoff game before concerning a young team with big expectations? This isn't the Tim Duncan Spurs that were poised and you could still feel confident. I think some people here (including you) are forgetting this isn't the Spurs Championship teams loaded with veterans and a prime TD. Even with a 2-0 lead, I expected the Spurs to likely come back from Portland 2-2 even with Victor playing. I hope they prove me wrong, but this loss feels bigger than just a single game due to a variety of factors (Victor out, young team, no playoff experience, not very good shooters on the Spurs' team that will be needed to hit shots on the road).

A lot of star players better than what the Spurs currently have (minus Victor) have been swept (Shaq, Kobe etc.). I've seen a lot of great players get swept and lose in the playoffs when they were young and had little experience. I can just tell this team isn't ready and hasn't been ready in either game. Jittery starts both games. Again, darn lucky they're playing the Blazers and are tried 1-1. Victor had a great shooting game in game 1. Who knows the outcome if he didn't.

The Guests absolutely can win this series, even if Scoot comes back down to Earth. Outside of Wemby in game 1 and Kornet the entire roster has been underperforming tbh. Their scrubs will also play better at home. Said it earlier in the thread but the winner of game 3 wins the series imo.
